OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

I know it seems redundant, and since there are so many writing about similar problems I don't know what thread to submit to. I have a problem going through my router, apparently, that I never had before. Had the same router for couple of years with no problem using Limewire, even through many successful upgrades and a firmware update. One day it worked the next it didn't. I have tried deleting the limewire preferences file, I have set up Windows firewall with every port change I've tried, I have set up a static IP and port forwarding with several port changes, I have set up windows 2000 compatibility mode. I know it is the router, because when I connect directly through the computer modem I have no problem. I can use Limewire a block away at work, so I know it is not being blocked by my ISP. I know the Linksys has a history in these threads, but just can't figure out why the sudden change. Here's my specs, and thanks for any help.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)Windows XP Home - SP2
2. What firewalls you have?Windows XP only - Use Avast for virus
3. How much ram?512 M
4. Hard Disk space available? 40+G free out of 80G
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL Fiberoptics
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54G version 1.1 with latest Firmware
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? [COLOR="blue"******[/COLOR]
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Version 4.12.6 and Java 1.5.0_09
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? EATEL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I have a Dell laptop and TIVO that access the wireless router
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used Limewire for over 5 years, never had a problem until now even with this router
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

Two things you could try:
First,....delete the LW preference folder (the old one named " .limewire " and the new one named " LimeWire ":
Read here on how to delete these folders (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Afterwards reboot your computer.

Second....
Uninstall LW and all Java versions on your system. Reboot and then download the JRE offline installer of the newest Java version from here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Install it and reboot again, then reinstall LW.

I still got nuttin'

:sos: In my last post on Nov. 6 I failed to mention several things that I have tried, but I have deleted both the .limewire and Limewire pref folders, reloaded Limewire and upgraded Java after the problems occurred. I have no problem with any other program through the router, and I downloaded a network mapping trial software suggested somewhere in here. No luck on any of those steps.

Read foolofthehill's response, which I assumed was to Buffy, but not sure. I didn't do the reinstall and upgrade in that order, but Java didn't seem to be my problem.

P.S. My previous post did not record my answer, but I am connecting from home.

Where do I find that limewire file?

Where do I find the C:// file you keep mentioning? I would like to try it out and see if it fixes my connection problem.

THanks:idea:

Don't know if this is old news (ain't trawling thru this thread to find out), but this is what fixed it for me - had tried all the other stuff, disabling autoconnect, deleting /.limewire etc., none of that worked. What I did:

- Tools
- Options
- Advanced
- Firewall Config
- select 'Do Nothing' (Router configuration)

Restart - Limewire will now work.

When restarted, go through the above steps and this time reselect 'Use UPnP'.

It continued to work after that.

Hope that helps some of you.

im using windows XP MCE that fix didnt work for me, though limewire sometimes connects upto the "good connection" level. but i still cant download anything

gamy1193 December 4th, 2006 07:32 AM

Didn't work for me either. Have tried everything I can find on this forum for months and still absolutely no progress in getting past my NAT firewall. Used to be able to physically bypass the router by connecting directly to ethernet cable, but last time I tried it would even connect that way. Pretty hopeless I'm beginning to see.
