NO WAY -- IT SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK

Deleting all Limewire pref files, even the one that has the gnutella name in it, rebooting in safe mode and rebuilding permissions, none of it works. I have done everything except stand on my head in rush hour traffic. This thing simply refuses to do anything but launch and crash.

You can tell people time and again to be sure they have deleted all their prefs and it doesn't make any difference. Even creating a new user with a fresh system doesn't make any difference.

LW launches and immediately crashes, and there doesn't seem to be anybody who has an authoritative answer about why it happens or what to do to remedy it ... except keep on paying every 6 months and cross your fingers.

Hi dburnham I'm sorry to hear about your problems. you can use your pro version as long as you like but the support does run out after 6 mths. It would be handy if you registered as a member of this site so I could PM you. In the meantime see: This page in reference to OSX issues (click on link) So which LW version are you using? Are you firewalled at all? What type of connection do you have? How many OS's are you running? When you installed OSX did you install the BSD system. BSD is important for LW's functioning.

possible solution

I had the same problems you are posting.
I just downloaded Java 1.4.2 Update 2 seperate from the OS 10.3.6 combo << http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...update142.html>>and my LW now works fine.
Phew!

for all of you who still can't connect... just disable "auto-connect" in the options menu under the "connections" tab. shut-down LW (make sure its not running in the tray) and restart LW. go to the file menu and then "connect" it worked for me on windows xp pro

Excellent! I was pulling my hair out and now it works after doing it.

I dunno if it's only me, but my problem with OS X was the system preferences/network settings on my Mac. Under TCP/IP my configure settings were on DHCP. Once I changed it to manual & entered all the IP's, masks, routers and so on... by hand it started to work fine.

good luck,...

Hello, I'm new to LimeWire. We downloaded and installed LimeWire 3.6.15 last week. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. I also have installed the Norton Internet Security application.

I'm having connection problems, and rather than read through 29 pages of this thread, I wondered if someone could just summarize what I need to do to connect.

The LimeWire application appears to come up fine. Clicking on the connection option brings the green light on for just a second. I have already checked my Norton firewall settings, dumped my limewire preferences file once already, and switched off the auto connect feature. Still no luck connecting.

Thanks for the help.

DavidGene: Just to double-check your firewalls including XP see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Update to the latest Java: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) b/c LW is designed with Java, & runs on Java.

If you're still having problems can you please tell us about your connection setup. What modem & router brand name & model no.'s?

You said you dwnlded LW 3.6.15, but why that version? LW 4.2.2 was released a couple days ago & LW 4.0 has been around for 6 months.

By the way, the 1st post on page 1 was the most important. This thread is going to be edited/replaced with an updated version soon.
