still off Yes, still down. I called the ISP yesterday and they suggested that I plug directly into the computer. I did. Nothing. I trashed my cookies. I uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire many times all to no avail. I am beginning to wonder if it might be mostly related to the system 9 and before. Most software that I researched for f2f is written for X and now I am thinking that we are getting weeded out. It's so great, Limewire, that is. I hope that it is just my issue and when I finally have the funds to upgrade. I will be back! |
Hi mac chick, can you tell us the actual model number of your Linksys? They generally have a type of internal firewall called NAT which reduces LW's capability to connect. We can show you how to forward a port (open a port to allow LW 100% access) if you give us the model number??? Also disregard Macs advice about Java & update to Java MRJ 2.2.6 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209 (see this link for tips : click me!!!) Here's some more hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. |
LOR to the Rescue... I'm so glad you responded as you seem to know so much about this stuff. Wish you were sitting in my office with me! Anyway, here is the model number: WRT546 ver. 2 but DO remember that I tried to go right from the computer as well to see if that was the cause... it didn't work. I will LOVE YOU forever if you can help me get back on!!! :) |
So you're connecting from work? Your modem-router is a wireless router. I don't have specific instructions for your particular model but, I can direct you to other linksys models some of which are probably similar (see bottom of page - 2nd row from left & probably liik at othre wrt models): http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & use port 6346 Make sure you setup a static ip 1st: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm You will also need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image |
I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I had to do was make the changes in Limewire under the options. DUH!!! It's working great now!!!!! LORD OF THE RINGS SHOULD BE PAID!!!!!!!!!! You made my day. Thank you so much. |
trying your hint Still not connected despite my internet connection vie Internet Explorer. I'll keep trying! Very frustrating to buy something and then the #!* thing doesn't work! |
This stinks! Still unable to connect!!! Have been trying for 35 minutes! |
kcratliff why don't you regiyter as a member on the forum so you (& we) can find your posts & responses more easily. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. |
Hi Group I have been trying to get LimeWire to connect nearly all day. My configuration now is: Win XP SP2 - new clean install TCP/IP re-connection atemps is not at 50 Draytek router 2600VG is forwarding port 6346 to my pc on tcp and udp. Avast AV turned off XP Firewall turned off My isp (BICSit.net) assures me that they are not filtering anything. LimeWire still won't connect. I have searched these forums but I am now lost for any more ideas. Am I a lost cause? Chris |
You'll need to forward a port for your router: Port Forwarding instructions for the Draytek Vigor 260 & use Port 6346 Make sure you set up a static ip 1st, instruction link in the previous link. You'll also need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image Make sure your Java is reasonably up to date: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) Configure your firewalls here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml |
