Not that I would advise running without any protection but turn all of your protection software off and see if limeWire will connect if it does then we will know it is one or more of them.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 12:58 AM

There's no way to disable these programs without just removing them completely from the computer. I hesitate to do that in case I can't find my installation CD for the Content Protect program...

Grandpa January 22nd, 2006 01:09 AM

Ok but you have tried every thing else if I remember correctly you have set up port forward, UPnP, Disabled your firewalls you connection says it is not firewalled.Adjusted your connection settings, LimeWire works on your work laptop using the same connection. The problem has to be a program on the machine your connection seems to be fine since your work laptop works.

I did see that Connect Protect does block P2P but you said it is configured to allow limewire have you tried there support site.

Any way it is way past my bed time so I will sign off for now 1:10 AM have a good day.

You are probably right... I'll have to check by removing that program when I can find the backup CD...
Thanks for the help... I'm not giving up!

New User... Looks Like Same Problem

I've read through and implemented the ideas in many of these posts with no help.

Here is what I have... I sure hope someone can point me to a solution.

Thanks everyone.
Ron

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)

I am using Windows XP SP2

2. What firewalls you have?

I am running the Windows XP Firewall

3. How much ram? 2Gbytes

4. Hard Disk space available? 18Gbytes

5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)

Broadband connection through a Router.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

Linksys model WRT54G

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Home

8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.

Limewire Version 4.10.5
Java 1.5.0_06

9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)

Aledo Broadband in Aledo, Texas

10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

No

11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Says server not found.

I also ran the Port probing test recommended and it said I was in Stealth mode for 6346.

These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

I followed the Windows XP instructions and also did the recommended delete /.limewire folder, etc. The only thing interesting I see everytime is where I am supposed to type 127.0.0.1 in the firewall advanced settings services area... I type it in and Windows replaces it with the Name of my computer on the Network... everytime...

In the Windows XP firewall exceptions list LW is there. Java is Not.

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showt...3757#post103757 Is the result True/False

Response is False

I have also totally disabled all Firewalls and LW still says there is a firewall stopping it.

13. Do a speed test post the results here.

Connection problems? Check here first! It's my understanding your router model is not the best at using UPnP (though other Linksys models tend to be fine.) See if you can find a firmware upgrade to your device. Otherwise, manual port forwarding might be the go.

But 1st, check to see that the issue is not your XP firewall. Alternate instuctions for your XP firewall:
1. Settings for XP Firewall, & 2. Setting Up WinXP Pro FireWall

Still No Joy

I upgraded the Firmware in my Router and no luck...

LW still says that I do not have an Internet connection or a Firewall is stopping communications...

I have followed all Firewall instructions to the tee... and I am using Windows XP Pro.

Hi Starflight_2000,

See here for port forward for your router.
Step 1 set up a static IP address:
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Step 2 port forwarding:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...RT54Gindex.htm

;)

Starflight_2000 January 22nd, 2006 06:25 PM

Static IP and Port Forwarding

Will this affect my Laptop being able to access the WAN... its set for DHCP...

Thanks,
Ron

Good Morning All

I have been having similar problems connecting as mentioned in many of these threads. I downloaded the current version of LW on Wednesday. I went about downloading some info regards Lost part 2 and was really pleased with the results. However last few days have not been able to get onto the system and get the firewall blocking logo and "you're not connected to the Internet message". After a fair bit of this I checked the LW site and applied the Windows XP firewall connection using the port number given from the options. About 30 minutes later I got a 5 bar connection and everything was good.

However the last few days nothing. I checked the port no. again and it had changed! I went and repeated the steps using the new port number but have not been able to re-connect for the last 2 days. Please Help...

I am currently at work so will not be able to give full system details but I only purchased it 2 weeks ago. Her is what I know at this time.

Compaq Presario
Windows XP (believe service pack 2 with all current updates Latest vergion of JAVA
AMD Athalon 3700 1.7GHZ
1 GB RAM
320GB Hard Disk (2x160GB)
Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem
Ethernet Connection
ISP is NTL on 2mb Broadband (believe no p2p issues with ISP)

Any help most appreciated.
