There are known hosts that will browse you as soon as you open LW up and every single occasion without downloading, those hosts were added to the Security block list. Yes it does sound like you are being targeted. Sounds like a USA address but I might be wrong (possibly Nth/Sth Carolina.) If super suspicious, then ban the host. Go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Filtering and scroll down to bottom of list, this will show the host's address. You can select it and copy-paste into a text document. Send me the host address via Private Message. I would prefer this to remain private for now at least until I can check the host. Also send me the name and version of the program they are using. You can find this out via right-clicking their listing in the Upload window and select View File Info., then click the Transfers tab. At bottom of the transfers tab it will display the program's name and version. Oh, you need to have uploads set to not auto-clear unless they are still downloading from you. If you cannot copy-paste from the filter list then you may need to type it manually. My Mac version allows me to copy-paste from the list. |

I can assure you, any host using port 27016 is a spam/hostile host. This is not the host you mentioned but this is one you seem to be connected to or is trying to connect to you. Port Block instructions If you don't mind, I will edit your post a little to remove some information such as an innocent host of which should not be identified publicly on the forum. |
My gnutella port is 34772 ; my bittorrent ports are 6881 to 6889 ; my vista firewall allows me to open a port to get through the firewall but it is silent about blocking ports ; |
As far as checking who is connected to you, try this CurrPorts: Monitoring TCP/IP network connections on Windows Last two numbers listed in LW's upload window will give you the last clue. Unfortunately I do not know anything about VISTA, simply presumed its firewall would be more similar to Windows 7 than XP. BTW if you want to make a host address permanent ban with LW, what I do is add /32 at the end of the number. I clear a percentage of my banned hosts out after a week or two, and some within a day. If I see the /32 at the end of the address I know it is intended to remain. The /32 is the CIDR format for representing just a single host. |
getting started with limewire Wasn't sure where to post this where can I find the proper link for limewire? I'm using windows 8 so which edition of java should I use? And will limewire connect or will I need to somehow fix it? Again sorry if I posted in the wrong thread......Thank you for any help with this issue. |
Try the first post of this thread, on page 1. There appears to be a Java 7 shortcut fix and seems to work. ;) LimeWire works fine in Windows 8, but you need to install Java first because Windows 8 is not packaged with Java unlike previous Windows versions. Java for LimeWire needs administrator permissions from what I've learnt. I just want my songs. Wanna hear me sing them? :P |
Limewire Pirate Edition on Android? Hi can someone tell me if Limewire Pirate Edition will work on Android? If not, any good p2p alternatives simular to LPE for Android? Thanks. :) |
Linux unsatisfiable dependency LimeWire PE (Debian package) appears to not install on latest Linux distros due to an unsatisfiable dependency: sun-java6-jre|icedtea-java7-jre|sun-java6-jdk|icedtea-java7-jdk. I think maybe there's a way to say it need these packages OR LATER. Kudos in advance to anyone whose smart enough to solve this issue. |
Most of the latest operating systems - Windows 8, MacOSX 10.8 are not packaged with Java. Looks like this might also be the case with the newer Linux releases? Simply means you need to install Java yourself independently from the Java site. Or am I misunderstanding your post? It might be the same issue Windows users have had with any LW 5 version including LPE. ie: LW will not run directly with Java 7, you need to create a shortcut to the LimeWire.jar file http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368753. I am not sure what are the equivalents for Linux. |
Thank you for your reply LOTR. I've tried all the various Java installs for Ubuntu but I think the problem is in the LimewirePE code specifically wanting a now defunct version of Java. Quote:
|
So it will not even install or refuses to open? If it is able to install, look for a file called LimeWire.jar probably located in the LW program folder if one exists for linux. For Windows the LimeWire.jar file is inside a folder called lib, for MacOSX it is found inside a folder called Java within the resources directory. On Windows and MacOSX LW can be opened via opening the LimeWire.jar file. Also, have you checked http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tu-debian.html I know none of the LW 4 versions have been affected by the java issues, I am not sure about Linux. There are LW clones you could try instead, almost all are based off LW 4's design, as is FrostWire. |

You are now the second person to report a problem with Java on Linux. Are you sure the Java version is 1.8? I cannot find any such version. I've searched the Oracle site and cannot find mention of Java 1.8 or Java 8. In terminal type % java -version Do you get an error? It is my guess the problem is 64-bit Java, similar to Windows. The answer for Windows is to install the 32-bit Java last. How do I download and install 32-bit Java for Linux? The 32-bit version will have linux-i586 as a part of its name. http://www.java.com/en/download/help...he_upgrade.xml (that article refers to Windows, but probably same principle.) I am not a Linux user so cannot test things. If still problems, find the Limewire program package and find LimeWire.jar and execute this instead. It will probably be found within a LimeWire sub-folder called either java or lib. It would be a huge kudos if any Linux users out there could give a help in hand here. :) |
just want to check in.. i came i lurked i downloaded now i share thanks for getting this up. i was a napster guy in the 90s a few in between never was a fan of torrents idk just never worked out. everyone who made this possible you are awesome! Everyone who shares thank you so much and i too am here with my 3tbs logged onto the network ready to help whomever make digital backups of the av stuff they have purchased. Thank you again for making this happen. i know it was done forever ago but i was using another P2P up until a few months ago and i really thought P2p was finished based on what i was reading online. Im glad to see this is here. coders and sharers again thank you all. |

Is there anyplace I can download LimeWire without joining a web site or paying money to get a unzip program. Just plain ol download, install, and go like in the old days? |
I answered your similar question here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...asier-way.html yesterday. Unfortunately things have changed with upload sites. Things are not as easy as in years past. And the only alternative would be if someone hosted these files. I am not going to be around forever and once I go, the files I've hosted will vanish also due to not logging into those sites every few months. Be nice if there was some kind of assistance and or alternatives. Edit: I did have File_Girl's LPE hosted at MediaFire but it was removed in December because they claimed it failed their DMCA rules and someone had complained in the first place. My appeals over January that it was open-source software and did not fall under DMCA failed. It is arguably true it does not fall under the standard DMCA but it obviously failed for 'other' reasons of pressure the MediaFire site was under which they did not disclose to me. If anybody has installed LimeWire Pirate Edition on Linux or OSX, the installer shows the version as being LimeWire Basic, which is what MetaPirate said in the beginning it was, just modified. But what was said in the media was different, probably to bend a few brain cells with the intention of stepping on certain toes. (Need a headache pill?) I suppose you believe everything you read in the media right. |

You must still have Java 7 on your system. Check your Java control panel and I suspect you will find Java 7 is the 'active' Java on the system. To find the Java control panel in Windows 8, go to Search, type in Control Panel and click on Settings and you will see Java listed. If there is a better way let me know. :D You can either uninstall Java 7 or use the shortcutfix for using with Java 7. But if you use that fix you should remove it first if you ever wish to uninstall LW. |
Windows LimeStart For anybody interested, I've created a Windows LimeStart. Details here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...insurance.html. This is an advancement on the LW-Java fix, http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368755 LimeStart for Windows has two functions: (1) prevents LW deleting the connection file if not used in 30 or more days. (2) Overrides the LW launch problem with Java 7. If you previously installed the LW5 or LPE Java7 Shortcuts Fix and wish to use LimeStart instead, then you will first need to uninstall them using the Add/Remove Control Panel before installing LimeStart. Also if at any point in time you wish to uninstall LW you will need to remove LimeStart first. Sorry but that's just how Windows is, fussy and shortsighted. :D :cantseeyou: The LimeStart installer will install Shortcuts replacing the original LW shortcuts and link them instead to the LimeStart program. The LimeStart installer is hosted at a few locations but on its own here, and can be found where the forum hosts the other LPE and LW5 versions. All LPE and LW 5 versions hosted via the forum are now packaged with the . LW 5 + LPE - LimeStart + Java Fix setup. Edit 4 June 2013: Probably my last version, I've now set LimeStart to install into its own program folder. It was not necessary for it to be installed into the LW folder. This should also make it easier to uninstall LW and its settings should you wish to at any point. Whilst the LW uninstaller might complain a little, it will probably only be because the original shortcuts were removed. Windows Requirements for LimeStart: Minimum System: Windows 95 Maximum allowable CPU: 320 THz Maximum allowable RAM: 1024 TB Minimum Monitor size: 0.20 inches (0.5 cm) Minimum seat size: Stand instead |

Very frustrated I discovered a few days ago that I wanted to go back to LPE. I'll save you all the circles I've went around in and just tell you where I'm at now... I have both Java 6 and 7 installed, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions (so LPE is out of reasons to use the java excuse) I have uninstalled my previous installed version via the Revo uninstaller, so I am confident that any remants that would normally be left behind were swept away I downloaded file_girl's package, and I followed the instructions as to the order of installation (the security package, LPE itself, and the Limestart fix) Both with this and what I had before, when I start it up I get an error that says the following... "A problem occurred... LimeWire has encountered an internal error. It is possible for LimeWire to recover and continue running normally. To continue using LimeWire, close this window. If desired, you can click 'Show Bug' to look at the information about the error." OK, so I do that, here's what I get...which doesn't seem to help much Code: LimeWire version 5.6.2 Another thing with both file_girl's version and the standard version of LPE...when I go to options and attempt to change my download folder, the program just locks up on me, hard. So hard that I have to shut it down via task manager. I don't know if this is relating to the refuse-to-connect problem, but I thought I'd mention it. As best I can tell, SEP firewall is configured to let limewire traffic through. It allows upnp, and I made a rule to allow limewire.exe though the firewall. I read that other people get on the gnutella network, and I really want to be able to, also. Please help. |
This problem seems to occur when the 64-bit Java 7 was installed or updated last. If you re-install the 32-bit Javas all should be fine after that. Java will say it's already installed but just click ignore or continue with the java installer. You will connect very quickly when you have fixed the java situation. The reason LW would not connect is it created a new preferences folder called .limewire at the top of your account directory (instead of using the appdata folder) (and its built-in connection file will have been self-deleted). And created a new set of LW download folders also at the same level. As far as changing the download location from the default, unfortunately this is a bug when running under Java 7. But at least when you reinstall the 32-bit java all will go back to normal and the download folders will be the correct location. |

You can go to your home directory and delete the .limewire folder and the newly created LW download folders. Once you fix java, LW will no longer use those folders. |

Now, to see if there's anything still actually here. Thanks again. |
Glad to hear and thanks for the quick feedback. :) (Java bug reports posted on the forum have a habit of getting stuck in moderation queue so you probably did not see your post for some time.) |
LimeStart for Linux I've created a simple script for Linux to do what LimeStart does on MacOSX; ie: adjust the connection file's date then launch LW. I don't know how good this script is for all linuxes but does use the shell script as basic as this script is. Any improvements I'm sure experienced linux users could make themselves. And even better if you could send your improved versions here. :) The way this one works is it launches the runLime.sh file. I'm not sure about terminal users of LW though. :o My script is intended for the gui operation. I have uploaded a file called linux_lwSettings_Connect_LimeStart.tar.gz which includes all needed for first time installation of any LW 5 or LPE for Linux with spam search filter, terminal choices for hostiles to install, message to inform of your choice and when installation is finished. Added a LW 4 equivalent (LW4 settings are a little different and does not need LimeStart.). This can be downloaded from any of the LW Linux folders or LPE folders hosted by the forum. A single sh script to install everything is included. But can also be downloaded here. LimeStart can arguably be located anywhere on your system. Though I suspect LW linux users have already created their own equivalents. I'm at kindergarten with linux so please forgive my naivety. (This is about my 4th day on linux.) (I gave up on the launching of the jar file option, too difficult for me.) I corrected a mistake I made before now for the hostiles files for linux, did not realise the capital H would prevent it working. I re-uploaded those files. For just the Linux LimeStart alone, here. Desktop, anywhere to place it within your permissible zones it should work. If not, let me know or the fixes required. Since I was unable to install the LW deb package I can not check LimeStart works as intended with the program directories. Ubuntu does not have any program folder per se. To speed startup, you may wish to change the 'find' command to 'locate' if you have run LW in a previous boot session, or even replace with the direct location of the runLime.sh file and a launch command. But keep in mind LW is one of the slowest java applications on earth to open anyway lol. Any feedback on LimeStart for Linux would be greatly appreciated. I think I have done all I can now in general. Heads off over the hills and far away. |
This applies only to Linux users Quote:

OK silly me, LPE has no problems on Linux running under Oracle's Java 7 (64-bit). No signs of buggy-ness either. LW does not like the open source java jdk 6 or 7 on my ubuntu. |
"Done but unable to scan for viruses" - a Windows only issue Just discovered an answer to a problem I've had for a few months now. 'Unable to scan for viruses' after finishing downloading a file. This issue also seemed to affect transferring music files to iTunes. The answer is here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...n-viruses.html. This only affects Windows users of LPE. You can use NotePad or WordPad to open and save the props file with. I will re-upload the LPE & LW5.5 installers to include this instruction in the props file that's installed if you install the security packages. I did not suffer this issue on Windows 8 (but since discovered the AVG bundle is not supported on Win 8 anyway), but is intended as an extra precautionary step against the possibility of this issue occurring to anybody else. Edit: I only changed the File_Girl LPE props file so far because those using Metapirate's LPE may wish to keep the AV active. But as far as we know, it is no longer possible to download the avg virus definitions (since about Jan/Feb 2011.) |

Not sure if your problem was solved but thought I'd add those comments as they are highly relevant to all users of LW 5/LPE. |
Sorry gang , i have deleted my lw by mistake from my hp vista pc ; please supply if possible a link for limewire so that i can install lw back on my pc . |
Post #1 of this thread (see link below) has several links to LPE - both the original & File_Girl71's versions. Make sure to read the whole post, as LOTR has added some extras to installers ;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...e-edition.html |
Ty birdy ; lw 5.3.6. ; java 1.6.0_35 ; how do i move my files from my lw library to my public shared folder ??? |
Have a look at the link below & see if that info helps: Adding files to Library, sharing/unsharing files LW 5.2.8+ |
Thank you birdy ; i can not get lw to connect to the internet ; my frostwire and winmx are working fine ; are there any known recent problems with lw 5.3.6 ??? |
LW 5.3.6 should be able to connect without issue. Only issue might be if it had an old connection file. All LW 5 versions suffer same issue that if the connection file is 30 or more days old then LW will delete the file as it opens and then unable to connect. Get a fresh connection installer for LW from here. If you do not use LW 5.3 very often then perhaps install LimeStart also. ;) One good thing about LW 5.3.6 is it was a little lighter than the later versions. ie: not quite as over-bloated in size. There were also a couple other good things about 5.3 that were removed in later versions. One of these removals was due to pressure the company was under from their early legal negotiations. Birdy and I always believed LW 5 should never have been released publicly until at least 5.2. Instead the company used their general LW user community as beta testers for a program that simply was not up to scratch. But even 5.2 was somewhat buggy. |
Thank you lord ; i am fully connected ; that lpe connectfix is essential ; i forgot that . |
Lw 5.3.6. With the old version of lw i was always connected to 5 ultrapeers ; with this lw i am always connected to 3 ultrapeers ;is there a known reason for this ??? |
Originally you must have been using the LW Pro version of 5.3.6 when you were connecting to 5 ultrapeers. And since then have installed the Basic version. You might still have the 5.3.6 pro version installer hidden away in backup storage or such. LPE connects to 5 ultrapeers. |
My homescreen always says the same thing '; ; network error , there might be a problem with your internet connection and there is a big yellow triangle with a green lime on top of it ; but down the bottom of the upload page , all 5 limes are green and it says that i am fully connected ; please explain if possible . |
Not sure about the yellow triangle, but this is an oldish snapshot here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...on-message.gif The main window of LW previously connected to the LW site, but since the site no longer exists or the link no longer exists, an error message will show. If your error looks much different can you post a snapshot? Don't include any incomplete downloads in the snapshot. |
I have the exact snap you want in my windows vista paint file ; how do i now get it here ; |
Why is the paste function not available in this box ???? |
Do you use an image hosting site (like Photobucket)? If so, then the easy way is to upload your screenshot to the site & then copy the image code from that site & paste it into your reply box here :) Let me know if you don't use any image hosting site & I'll tell you the other (bit long) way to post an image here. |
