For those who are having trouble connection to the Gnutella network using LimeWire, we have a potential fix. You need to delete your WHOLE LimeWire preferences directory. The directory can be found in the following locations:

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

Thanks!

It says "connecting" but it never connects

It says "connecting" but it never connects. The same thing happened to me a little while ago so I ran Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk on all of my drives and wiped the free space. My LW worked after that. Perhaps it was just a coincidence because this time I went through that whole process and it didn't work. I tried re-installing the program, I tried deleting the preferences, and I tried disabling the auto-connect feature.

1. OS version? Mac OS 9.2

2. What firewalls you have? None.

3. How much ram? 1GB

4. Hard Disk space available? Plenty.

5. Connection type? DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? speedstream 5100

7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home.

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? In the LW Help menu it says client 4.0.10 and nothing about Java. When I click the icon and look at the general info in my Apple File menu, it says LaunchAnywhere 4.5 Mac Edition.

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? SBC (At&T)

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked."

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've been using it for a year or so.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No.

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Waah?

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. None.

16. What country are you living in? U.S. of A.

Yes! Thanks so much, this worked for me. I was getting so frustrated last night when I couldn't get this up and running, and my husband couldn't either. Thanks again!! Going to download some tunes now!! :D

connection problems

thanks a million - worked first time with windows xp. why isnt this solution posted on your main site rather than a lot of confusion about having been able to connect etc and firewall problems which it wasnt:idea:

Long-time user, first post. I did as these directions suggest, and it worked. This was the first major meltdown I've had with it in a couple of years, but nice to know it was solved by using this solution.

Vista users look here - you must show all hidden files

C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire

Click on this link (how to show hidden files in vista)

Deleting the Folder absolutely worked for me.

For my 2nd question: where do you type in "C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire"?

I don't remember having a user name.

Thank you.
