What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows Vista, you are in the hurt locker. Go to your control panel and enter the Java Icon and check the about tab to see what version you have-I have 6-then click on network setting and ensure Use Browser Setting is green. While in your control panel if you have an icon for Security Centre click on this can allow Limewire as you no doubt are behind a firewall. If you do not have this icon you can double click on your Network Connections Icon and then click on the left side in Network Tasks and change "windows firewall settings" when the windows (if you are using this system) box comes up click on the "exceptions tab" and make sure Limewire is checked!!! If it is not there, you need to download it again. On a final note, I had numerous problems getting Limewire to work on my Windows XP system and if you are asking for technical support you may as well go pee into the wind lol. I do not find this site user friendly for the newbies per se. Anyways I hope this works for you let me know as I will get the thread via my email. Cheers |
Thanks for your reply. I do not have vista, just regular Windows xp with a HP. When I downloaded lw I did get all the folders & etc. but when you went to the icon, nothing would happen. The only icon I got was the round circle on the desktop. I did go to my security & allow lw as well as gnutella. I checked my security, firewalls. I went to a sticky & followed directions there and followed the steps. There was a test & that came out okay. I have CA security & tried to allow lw but maybe I didn't enter it in correctly. You need a https: and it has to be an "s" after the http for a secure site. Not sure if you can just add them or not. ? I also downloaded the lated Java that was reccomended. I also downloaded the crap cleaner (worked great!). There was one box in ? security setting (drop down type) & lw was checked in the box. Not sure what else to do here. I have deleted everything now. Is there another site that is easier to download for music? This is very frustrating. Thanks |
Limewire Download If downloaded correctly there should be 2 icons on your desktop. One will say Limewire with the green icon and the version the other will just say lime wire. Go to "My Computer" and check on C drive if this is your main hard drive then double click on Program Files-Limewire should be in there like this: "C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe" if it is not there then or course you will have to download again. Contact me on Yahoo messenger as user misty_blue_seas and we can IM and see what happens. The 2nd icon on your desktop should just be the shortcut, but if both are not there then will download again. Are you using the free download version? There is also Itunes but they charge 99 cents a song I believe. Let me know |
Hello. Well, I downloaded again. I have the icon on the desk top. If I go to programs, I see it listed there. I try tp open them & nothing happens. I have all of the files I think that I should have (lw download). Here is what I have: Buy lw pro, install log, spacer, lw exe, copying, language, unpack & etc. There are about 17 of them. I will go back to my firewall again & see what I can try to do there. Still stumped! I am not on yahoo. Sorry. Oh well, I will just keep at it here. Thanks |
Please help. Unable to connect. I have vista with mcafee. I updated mcafee turned all firewalls off still detecting a firewall after reseting computer. I allowed limewire on mcafee program permission. Deleted and redownloaded lw. I entered the port numbers(hopefully done correctly). Unable to connect to a host. I have tried everything I can think of. Using comcast cable for connection. Done tech support for mcafee and comcast and didn't get far. I'm kind of new to this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
Need help connecting!!!!!!!!!!!!! HI. I have read HUNDREDS of postings and tried deleting the folder off the preference folder and everything suggested that I could understand. I am not a computer wiz, but an average user and, as the name suggests, I AM NEW TO MAC!!!! Here is the run down of my situation> - Have a new macbook laptop connected to a PC via Wireless N connection. The router is Linksys N Ultra Range Plus; - Operating Mac OS X 10 (the newest one whatever it is); - finally downloaded Lime Wire and now all I get is one bar. I am not evern sure that there is a connection listed because when I get it to show me all connections I dont see one there and it asks me for a username on the connection window. IT does give me a proxy number automatically. I tried my security password and other names attached to my wireless connection. Nothing works; - I got it so that connecting has to be done manually and I also disabled the pop up window with the tips (as suggested in some postings). NOTHING WORKS! Can one of you computer and limewire wizes help me in PLAIN ENGLISH! Most postings go over my head!!!! Thanks thanks thanks thanks! |
