Lord of the Rings, Please tell me exactly what questions you are referring to. I've had LW over a year and never had problems like this. I haven't used it for a couple of weeks and today I was not able to connect & kept getting an error message saying I had no internet connection. I deleted the directory as recommended and it has done no good.

The LOTR is referring to the questions below but if LimeWire stooped working all of the sudden there is a good chance your ISP has started blocking P2P networks.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?

Unfortunately we are not mind readers if you people want help then quit being lazy and answer the questions. If you don't want to answer the above questions the don't expect us to waste our time answering statements like I use windows XP I can not connect how come.

Please help!

I was a good girl and answered all of the questions to the best of my ability... Could my school be blocking my access to Limewire? :;crosses fingers:: please say no.... :p
I live in apartments owned by the University that I attend, and connect to the internet through... well... the wall... I'm semi computer illiterate... please help!!!

1. OS version? WindowsXP
2. What firewalls you have? Windows
3. How much ram? 512
4. Hard Disk space available? 27.5GB
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) I'm not exactly sure... I use an ethernet cable to connect.. would LAN be an acceptable answer here?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? NA
7. Where are you trying to connect from? school
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? LW: 4.9.37; Java: 1.5.0_05

10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No.
11. Do this simple test for us. What happens when you go there? It said, "Your test worked!" :)

Unfortunately yes. There's p2p filter programs out there which many/most schools now use to block or filter the speeds of p2p sharing programs. p2p sharing uses up a lot of bandwidth which the school pays a lot of money for. Here's an example of Gnutella filtering by a university, but this one applies to speeds: Bandwidth Shaper Sample (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing.

Other ways to find out are to try different ports to connect through (though it appears port 6346 isn't being blocked): 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 20282, 22817, 443, 34599, 40475. ie: Go to LW's menu bar Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port from 6346 to one of the above. I'm not sure but you may need to relaunch LW. Or at least apply it, go to menu bar, Select File>disconnect, wait a minute, then File>Connect. Give each one at least 15 mins to attempt to connect.

Another alternative is to try another gnutella client. eg: Bearshare lite, Phex, etc.

Unfortunately Cox is one of the ISP known to block or filter P2P networks. The link below might be of help.

I finally got connected by opening up the ports listed in one of the forums! However, NOW all the music downloads are coming up with the message "need more sources" and the LW icon on the top right of the screen doesn't move. What do I do now?????
