If you still have problems connecting (after trying for a few minutes), you might want to try getting a valid gnutella.net file from someone. The gwebcaches that are out there right now are in really bad shape. If you hit a bunch of bad ones on startup (assuming you have not been on the network recently), then you may not get connected.

I have windows XP, limewire 4.0.8, windows firewall and a 10mbps LAN connection (i don't know if that's DSL\T1\T3) but limewire just won't connect. When I lived at home with my parents, limewire worked fine under the same circumstances but on a cable connection. My girlfriend has the same as me now...same versions of windows and limewire, same firewall, same sort of connection...even the exact same computer and limewire is 100% functional. I've followed the "can't connect?" instructions on the limewire web page about opening ports and stuff but that didn't help. Neitherdid deleting whatever it said at the start of this thread.
It's really frustrating and if anyone can help I'd be really grateful.

Yeah I tried that but it didn't work.
It's Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition Version 1.4.2

My friend jethro: it seems to me that you are trying to connect from either a university network, or a work network. Am I right?
If I am, then chances are that the people at the University/work people don't want people using p2p apps, so they block them using firewalls.

I thought it might be something like that, murasame:-\ It's a uni halls of residence network.
That's incredibly annoying. Oh well...thatnks for the help.

Waitwaitwait! Before giving up, a good idea is to talk to other students and maybe even the IT department (if you don't think that they have a problem with it) to see if there are other apps that work. If there are, either use the ports that they use on LW, or just switch.
If you choose the IT dep alternative, ask them for open ports and use them on LW.

Comcast and Limewire?

I've formatted my computer and completely reinstalled LimeWire. I've tried also deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\Username\.limewire But I still can't connect.

Anyone know if Comcast Cable Provider has blocked Gnutella/LimeWire? Windows Firewall is Off. Kerio Firewall is Uninstalled, Norton's Disabled.... Still can't connect. Don't even get a list of servers its trying to connect to......

Any Suggestions? All other p2p programs I've found suck.
