help!

Hey, I have aol and I have one green bar at the bottom of limewire. I was wondering if that was normal for a modem or if I am having connection problems also. Is there anything that I can do to help me connect better? I can do a search but it turns up with nothing when it finishes...I also tried to delete the folder but that didn't help any.

me again

I went through some of the pages and tried some of the methods again and I still got nothing to work. I am on XP and my isp is AOL. I don't know what a proxy setting is so if I need to change that could you please be a little bit more specific than you would with other people that understand that jargon. Also, when I go to do a search I get this message:

"Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network."

I have the basic version of limewire. Please somebody tell me what I am doing wrong before I throw my computer out of a window!!!!

Lots of people who use AOL seem to have problems connecting. I don't know of any simple answers. Have you seen AOL upgrade causing connection problems? Remember it's only wise to keep one firewall active since 2 can interfere with each other. Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) If you are using McAfee firewall or another then disable windows XP firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.)

Oh & re: earlier poster about search is too specific see Search is too Specific (click on link)

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. How may computers connected to network & how many are using LW?
10. What's the speed of your isp plan (what speed are you people paying for) & (b) What speeds does your friend get?

My problem is that I am always "Currently connecting to the Internet", but never really connecting. I can do all other things of course, such as play games, surf the web and such.

I tried that link and it could not be displayed. (http://www3.limewire.com:6346)
1. WinXP Pro
2. Norton
3.1024MB
4. Alot.
5. Cable (ISP: Comcast)
6. Modem = Motorola SB5100 Surboard.
Router = Lynksys Wireless-B model befw11s4 ver. 4 (I even tried a direction connection w/o avail.)
7.home
8. LW vers. 4.9.7 Java: 1.5.0_03
9. 2 computers, one limewire. this one is connected directly to the router. (Not wireless)
10. I believe its 256-512MB transfer rate. Basically cable modem.

Hello.
My Limewire wont let me connect anymore for no reason! It just started 2 days ago. It says that there is a router or firewall blocking Limewire from connecting. I've tried ALL the steps on the limewire website for the firewall steps and NOTHING worked. I even uninstalled limewire and downloaded the newer version and still NOTHING. I have Windows XP and Cable internet with a router.Would the touter effect anything?

Then restart limewire......it works for me.

>>>>>>>Ive tried this several times and im still stuck in the same position with limewire. I Try to open the program and i get a message that says " Limewire was unalbe to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWires access to the internet or lookback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire." I am very sure that there is no firewall blocking it as i have the firewall turned off all together. Does anyone have any suggestions of what i should do?
