Get Limewire at the link below it is the official link and clean I do not know if the one you are using is clean or not. If the Norton notice comes up with it you are going to have to disable Norton until after you get limewire connected the you can start it back up.

Disable Norton and Internet worm protection

johnny sixpack September 25th, 2005 04:40 PM

Did that too. For now i just reinstalled 4.8. (although it makes the Norton window pop up like every 5 sec asking me if i want Limewire to access the internet) i may just have to reninstall norton maybe it just went weird on me.

still can't connect. I officially give up.

I have done absolutely everything to try and get limewire to work on my home computer. Bottom line is Limewire worked fine, wonderful and I loved it!!! until I paid $18.88 to upgrade to pro.....and then updated to a "newer" better version. Limewire 4.8.1 was great and I still have it on my computer at work and do not have any problems. Needless to say I have never updated to the "newer" version on my work computer. I thank all of you for your help and suggestions but none of them work for me and it is a pain to keep installing and uninstalling and etc, etc etc etc. I will just use the old version on my work computer and take this as a learning experience. Like the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!! I do appreciate the help.

When I attempt to connect my computer freezes up while connecting. I have:

Computer Freezing

Thank you for your assistance, let me try this again:

1: OS- Windows XP
2: CPU- Intel Celeron 1.80Ghz
3: Memory- 384mb
4: Graphics/Video Card- NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model64/Model64 Pro
5: Connection- Motorola SB4200 Surfboard Cable Modem
6: Limewire Version- 4.9.30
7: Java Version- 1.5.0_04
8: Firewall- Windows Firewall
9: Antivirus- Norton's Antivirus
10: I am new to Limewire
11: Problem- I downloaded Limewire and it worked. I had a problem with my computer where it would lock up after about 15-20min which I was never able to resolve. I ended up reformating my hard drive and reloading everything. After downloading limewire I was able to download music; but after I logged off everytime I click on the shortcut icon or if I go thru start/program my computer freezes up while it tries to bring up limewire. No other system on my computer causes it to freeze up since I reloaded everything. While trying to fix the problem I did get this error msg once:

LimeWire version 4.9.30
Java version 1.5.0_04 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86

Check other thread

I posted a detailed fix for this problem in another thread. THe problem is this: Limewire cannot connect to the Gnutella network if it doesn't know any Limewire peers. The peers in standard release of Limewire are not active. They might be, but it didnt work for me.

The developers changed the location of the gnutella.net file in the latest limewire versions. In the 4.9.31 version, there is NO .limewire directory.

To fix older versions of limewire, go to the .limewire directory and add some peers in the gnutella.net file. Fine my other post and you will see a list of about 35 webcahes that will get you connected.

A help would be to know where the .limewire directory is in the releases.
