Hi, I have windows XP and a Norton wirewall. My download speed starts high then drops fast to 0KBs. I tried all of you suggestions and it still does the same but now I have my Disk problem back after getting rid of it yesterday by deleating all old limewire files and installing the new adobe OFFLINE version as suggested in the forum.
Thanks for any help

Hey everybody at/on Gnutella!

Hey guys and girls,
Wut up? First off I'd just like to say thank you to everybody here for helping make musician's lives just that much easier.

I am very new to this and to be quite honest I'm not really a computer person. I'm a musician who has been basically practicing all my life and now I believe that I'm ready to get out there and show the world what I'm made of. One of the things I'm going to have to do, in that case, is use one of the most vital tools in the music industries today; the internet. The best way to do that is to be a part of the world's biggest music sharing company and learning how to use it properly. So, naturally, knowing nothing about this software I have to begin to ask questions.

My first question is: How do I upload music on to Limewire? I know it's a very amateur question to ask, but that's the stage at where I am. If anybody could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

My deepest thanks,
Roddy MacIsaac

I am not a computer wiz by any strech and this issue is totally making me nuts. I downloaded Limewire and all seems to have gone properly except that I dod not get any results. The connection bars on the lower left show only the first one green and everything I have tried has not helped. I have linksys and made sure it allowed the Upsp or whatever, I went to my (darn) VISTA windows firewall and added Limewire in, yet nothing seems to help.

Can anyone help??

As you get toward the end of downloading a large file such as a video file, you will find hosts tend to drop off. This is usually because not everyone has 100% of the file, but you are downloading parts of the file as others are downloading (partial file sharing). Use the 'Get More Results' option occasionally when searching for more hosts. (ie: right-click the search tab & you will see options.) Hopefully you will eventually find someone with that last 1-2%. :)

You could preview the file to see how much is missing. It might only be the credits at the end of the video. If that's the case, you may wish to cancel from download window & remove from incomplete folder so you can use it.

hi how do you force your ip in limewire?

Lord of the Rings January 25th, 2009 06:51 PM

Force ip was an old setting. It was been replaced with the Firewall section in the Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewall section of your LW settings. :)

You would normally use that section if you are port forwarding your modem/router. And reciprocate the port forwarded in the LW settings. Example here: Manual port forward instructions & sample image

Tom Tommsen February 15th, 2009 03:14 AM

I am not sure if this is the right thread for this sort of question, but here I go.
I am currently downloading a "torrent-file". I found it on a web page, downloaded some file which i oppened, and it began to download using LimeWire.
Unforutenately, it has stopped on 99% completion. And even though it finds 3 to 8 host, it still dont want to complete. The only wrong things I see, are the fact that there are no "speed" and "time" during the download.
So what is wrong? What may I do? Thanks in advance, folks!

Lord of the Rings February 15th, 2009 03:17 AM

Torrents are hardest the more you have downloaded. Since Torrents very much use partial file sharing, the more you download, the less hosts there are who have the entire file. Chances are people with the last 1% are either not online, else their upload slots are busy with other files or other people. Patience is best. :)

LW is not a great torrent program. One such reason is that it appears not to have any share ratio recording. With other torrent programs, some people set their torrent program not to share with people who have less than a certain share ratio.

Tom Tommsen February 15th, 2009 05:09 AM

Ah! So it isn't something I do wrong? Well, thats a relife.
Thank you so much. Really seems like beeing a member here pays off.;)

thank you-thank you

Hello there..my name is Deloriesj and I am new to Gnutella. I have Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have used [basic limewire] for about three years now(no problem) and a couple of weeks ago I deleted it and monday decided to go with LimewirePro. I had nothing but trouble wasn't able to download anything at all. I also kept getting the same disk problem error...I went in my system defraged and that did nothing so I deleted files from my hard drive-NOTHING..I searched and searched the forum and tried everything I could think of.......Finally I came across this thread...thank you so much..I went to options and then the transfers...this is where I slid the bandwidth bar ---> all the way to the right to maximum my band width. I have been working on this for three days. Thanks again for the help.

Unable to Download

My first post.

I've been using the old version of limewire for over a year with no problems - mostly for video downloads via torrents.

This week I downloaded the new version and paid extra for the Pro version, however in trying to download a video I've got nowhere, it will not download this is the first time this has happened. I'm 97% complete and it's taking me 5 days to get this far - usually it takes less than 5 hours.

This question may already have been answered (i.e. I need patience) but I've never had any problems before - if I don't use torrents do I have to wait until my required video appears in my limewire search?

Help!

Lord of the Rings March 28th, 2009 08:30 AM

Only if anybody shares it on Gnutella. However, torrents & gnutella networks & files are totally different. Your torrent file will not continue via gnutella. There may be alternative or equivalent version as the you are downloading via torrents. ;)

Hello Group,

I am currently using Limewire v5.1.12. What were you thinking? I do not think there needs to be a share with friends, or email connection in this software. You should have put your efforts into designing search features, downloading and uploading faster. What happened to sqearching by album? What happened to searching for artist? These are not availabel as you may think. There are some files that appear when attemptign to do specific search that make no sense.

I do agree with some of these users that LW v4 had a better search feature and that is what you shoudl have worked on and not adding email and friends.

Also, I have tried several times to write to this group and no response. I am hoping for better this time around. When you pay for money for a service getting a reply to questions should be expected.

Have a good weekend.

birdy April 26th, 2009 12:52 AM

If you want to give feedback about LW 5, post over at the LW forums. The developers will see your post there (the helpers here are volunteers - we don't work for LW):) There's a section for comments about LW 5. LimeWire Forums

You can search by artist or album in LW 5. Click on the All button > Advanced Search. If you click on Audio, you'll see text fields for Title, Artist, Album, Genre etc. And if you just do a general search, you can refine the results to show only the artist or album that you're interested in. Once the search is underway, type the artist or album into the 'Refine Results' text field... then only those results will show.

If you're seeing spam files in your searches, check out this thread for info about adding words to LW's keyword filter & lots more general info: How to find music :)

Birdy,

Thank you. You gave me more helpful information than the FAQ's.

why is it with this new 5.3 Limewire very few selections come up with each title entered. I'm using Win XP pro. I used to always get selections with bit rates in the 256KB or 320 KB now I only get 128KB mostly Thanks, Mark Donatelli

Is there greater protection if you use a STEALTH port?

Hello,

I'm using Windows XP
cable modem
Limewire 5.3.6
and
Zone Alarm Extreme Security (with filesharing protection enabled and all protection is selected in the Advance firewall) The firewall is set to block packets, trusted servers, internet servers, and ARP protection. This firewall with the settings mentioned is connected to the "STEALTH" NetBios port that is being used for Limewire's "listening port." The computer is set up as a client of an ICS/NAT Gateway running Zone Alarm Extreme Security.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this question on Google or on this forum.

How does a netbios port that is "STEALTH" react when used as my listening port in Limewire?

I would think it would provide greater protection against being tracked by hackers or me downloading a virus.

Another question: Does the person you downloaded the file from have to put virus or spyware in the download in order to track you or cause malicious intent? Would a "stealth port" as mentioned above offer protection against being tracked by hackers or spyware or viruses?

Look forward to your answer,

file_sharing

Lord of the Rings December 23rd, 2009 05:21 PM

Someone else can probably answer the question much better than I can. AFAIK Stealth mode is simply placing the computer into a mode where nobody can discover it except via excepted firewall programs; ie: the computer does not respond to the many pings that may come from various sources including hackers & such.

I run Mac OSX & Stealth is turned on when firewall is running. It does not affect LW or Azureus.

Perhaps that does not exactly answer your question, not sure.

I'm thinking along the lines LOTR is...

I appreciate your response. I'm really trying to figure out how a person is tracked when on Limewire. If you download a pic, does there have to be virus or spyware along with the pic, in order for someone to track what you downloaded?

Can my firewall keep me from being tracked when downloading a file?

And. I just wondered if using a "STEALTH" port for my listening port would help the above.

You leave a digital footprint everywhere, you don't need to download anything by simply visiting a site, your IP is just about always logged u make a trail everywhere you go online noone probably care where you go but if they really did want the information is out there.

Your best option on not being seen is to be seen, there are programs out there I'm not really sure If I'm meant to just post them but PM me. But you can change who they think you are, so they might be able to track you but does it really matter if there tracking a ghost

If Micro$oft Word is creating havoc with the gnutella.net file, change the file's properties to be opened by WordPad instead. WordPad should not affect the properties of the .net file. Unless you have changed the document's properties from text only to formatted or some other kind of text type (which MS Word tends to do.)
Alternatively set the file to be opened by NotePad or 'None', but if you personally open the file it will open without line formatting. By default the gnutella.net file uses Linux/OSX style EOL and UTF-8.

Thank you for the response to my post.

I was able to get the Net file changed for the Word Pad back to a NET file.

Thank you.
