Download Issues

Hey Lee,

im using Lime Wire Pro 4.12.3 and i have a T1 connection, windows 2000 home edition service pack 2, 2Gb of free space,Intel Celeron CPU 2.4 GHZ 736RAM. I hope thats enough info to address my problem.

Alright my problem is that when i download a file regardless of what ever from music to Video, it starts downloading from 9-10 hosts usually 10-25 kbps, but for the pas few weeks it has been downloading from 7-10 hosts for a single file at only 1-2 kbps some times even 0 kbps? and it takes like forever to download a 5000kb file which use to take like a split second. NO firewall (im saying this based on the globe icon without a wall on the bottom left), health of connection is TURBO-Charged always and upload has always been zero by Default. Hope You Can Help. Thanks Lee

Can someone help me out?

I used lime wire before with speeds of 15kb/s to 115kb/s. I had to do a System restore on my PC, and now at (LimeWire 4.12.6) im downloading at speeds 0kb/s to 1kb/s

Internet explorer browses the internet very fast and i download music around 300kb/s from webpages.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT??

Have you only just done a system restore & found this problem, or has it been a while since you last used LW?

Try deleting the LW preferences folder (when LW's closed), see points 2 & 3 in the thread below. This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to reset things afterwards:wink:
Fixes for LimeWire

If that's no help, post back with your details. Check the thread below to see the info we need

Hey Birdie, did every thing above already and it didnt work.

OS Version: windows xp home edition service pack 2

Firewalls: standard windows firewall and Norton antivirus 2006 but both the settings are set to allow lime wire to connect and there is no Globe with a wall icon on the bottom left.

RAM: 736

Connection Type: Broadband 100.0Mbps

Modem and router: Aztech DSL600E

LW/Java Version: LW 4.12.3 PRO, JAVA 1.5.0_08

Test Results: Your Test Worked

Im not sharing the connection with any other Computer but i do have azureus and its always off. I dont run both of them at the same time.

This is not my First try: I am very fermilliar to using LW, but just the basic downloading, searching, choosing a good file but not in the technical aspect.

birdy October 31st, 2006 02:25 PM

Download a file from here & see what speeds you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Who is your ISP?

Are downloads with Azureus also slow?

Grandpa October 31st, 2006 08:20 PM

You may want to do a speed test 100.0Mbps is allot are you sure it isn't more along the line of 100kbps or 100KB/s. You can do a speed test at the link below. Then check with your ISP and see if they are shaping if you have already deleted the preference file.

http://www.dslreports.com/stest/

6_pac October 31st, 2006 09:35 PM

That speed of 100.0 Mbs has something to do with the connection speed between your cpu and your modem(LAN speed not internet speed). Mine says the same thing, but my advertised speed is 1792Kbs/448Kbs. The actual speed is a little slower.

MoStwanTed November 1st, 2006 03:14 AM

Lw not connecting.

Hey Birdie,

Yesterday i was downloading slow (0-1kbps) then after i deleted the preference folder(.limewire), i made a new search and a few files were downloading at the speed of 8-11kbps and 2 were downloading at 30-54 kbps. Today when i tried to run lime wire it just cant connect, it starts up goes from poor connection- turbo-Charged then Disconnects straight away, and its still the same till now, anyway i did all the test i was asked to

Magnet mix, i cant download a file from here. Lime wire keeps opening but cant connect.

As for azureus i dont know if its slow or not coz its my first time using it, it ranges from 288 b/s - 15-30kbps sometimes.

My isp is : Tmnet Streamyx

Hey Grandpa,

i did the speed test and this is the results

Description: Filesize Time KBytes Kbits
Download Speed: 1025.73 6.75 155.91 1247.28

and on the RPM meter it reads above 1000RPM by one bar. (At 500 RPM it says DSL cable) but above that there is no spesification.

Hey 6_Pac,

Thank For The Info. btw how do i check my advertised speed?

6_pac November 1st, 2006 04:53 AM

Quote:

You could call your isp and ask them. I got mine by typing the ip address of my router into the the address bar of my browser and hit enter.

Try entering 192.168.2.1 into the address bar of your browser and hit enter. It should list the DSL Connect Rate (Down/Up).....I got that from the port forward page for your router here: http://portforward.com/english/route...E/Limewire.htm

steffi November 1st, 2006 10:30 AM

Do you really need a static IP to set up port forwarding? The reason I ask is because I created a service in my router and allowed it in the firewall rules and now LW runs without the brick wall but my IP address is definitely dynamic. I did create a static IP initially but for some reason my system reverted to a dynamic IP so how could this have happened?

Somewhere in one of those threads it suggests that TMNet are throttling from 12pm to 12am...were you seeing better download speeds in the morning?

For your connection problem, check out the thread below - you'll find a lot of advice
Connection problems? Check here first!
Since you haven't been able to connect, have you started seeing the firewall icon?
You could try connecting with a higher port, say 64049. You'll need to change LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config, apply to save a change). You'd also need to change port numbers allowed through your software firewall & any ports forwarded through a modem/router:wink:

steffi November 1st, 2006 10:52 PM

Sorry I should have been more specific, actually I have no problems downloading or uploading but it just seems odd to me that it's working fine (no firewall) from a dynamic IP with just a service in the router.

MoStwanTed November 2nd, 2006 07:45 AM

Nothing Works

Hey Birdie,

i have done everything u asked and read all the forums u asked me too, and it didnt help. Ever since i deleted the .limewire preference folder it just got worst by not being able to connect at all. I used the port 64049 still cant connect. so i did a system restore to before i deleted the .limewire preference folder and now it can connect again but at poor speeds. Thanks Anyway Dude.

Hi, I am new Limewire user.
I am trying to download music, the message appears: Limewire is unable to find a license for this file. Download anyway?
Please note: Limeware cannot monitor or control the content of the Gnutella network. Please respect your local copyright laws.
Always use this answer Yes No Cancel

I would like to know what would be my answer to this question above

I click on Limewire Basic (free version)

birdy November 11th, 2006 06:41 PM

You have to choose whether or not you wish to download copyrighted files. That's something everyone has to decide for themselves, based on their local laws & their personal opinions about copyright violation;)

If you answer no to the question, you'll find that very few (if any) songs will download!

Tex1981 December 1st, 2006 12:40 AM

So many posts....

:o Sorry if this may be redundant, but I've been using the search function and wading through the forums for like an hour and I can't seem to find an answer to what I consider a simple question...:bangh:

Why do all my downloads max out at 10 hosts? I have configured everything in LW 4.12Pro as best as I've seen anywhere on these forums, but I haven't seen any way to increase the number of hosts I can download from, regardless of how many d/ls I have in progress they all max out at 10 hosts each. I'm sure this has been covered before somewhere in this forum, but its so large and time consuming to search through threads that have 35 pages of posts I'm hoping for a benevolent veteran of the forum to save me hours of searching, any help would be :super: :) TIA. :o

foolofthehill December 1st, 2006 12:51 AM

Well, in short....
LW Basic = 8 hosts

LW Pro = 10 hosts

LW Pro with a T3 internet connection = 14 hosts (if I'm not wrong)

That's the maximum it goes.

And this is detected by LW automatically, i.e. there is no function to adjust this manually.....

(Others might be able to fill in the gaps I left.......:o )

Cheers
:Smilywais:

Tex1981 December 1st, 2006 01:08 AM

Thank you for the quick response foolofthehill, you've confirmed what I kinda thought with some clarification, apparently my cable connection can't fool LW into thinking its a T3.:) Anyone that would like to comment further would be greatly appreciated tho...

Tex1981 December 1st, 2006 01:23 AM

I just played with my 'speed' under 'Tools/options/speed' and it allowed me more than 10 hosts if I chose 'T3' or oddly enough 'dial up' (instead of 'cable/DSL') but seemed to throttle the bandwidth, download speed incresased for all d/ls briefly, then went down....hmmm....:shoot: Anybody have any ideas on this? Again, I'm sure this has been discussed before, and I apoligize, this forum is just so overwhelming in it's scale and # of posts to search

Tex1981 December 1st, 2006 01:28 AM

Ok...I changed connection speeds around and got 14 hosts for all my d/ls by manually changing my clamied connection speed to T3, but by overall download speed decreased across all downloads in progress...but when I changed back to 'cable/dsl' my speed went back up to as much or greater than before and I retained the 14 hosts per d/l...

Maxing up limewire 360 programs

"Good day to you, Sir...."
1.) My IP address is: 68.18.115.216 (I have Bellsouth security w/firewall protection).
Computer: Dell Optipex GX260 w/500megs internal Ram. I Setup a home net work through Bellsouth (my Service provider). Speed: 100Mbps DSL

Q. I did (setup my options) as you stated in your post with one exception, how (or) do I need to force my IP address in Limewire? And, 360 Shares?
I'm some-what a new user, however never was a member of any posts. My question is..."I can't seem to download alot of the songs!" Nor do I see many uploads. I've got 746 songs that I share in (named folders) and can't see them shared, according to the upload display.

My downloading of songs is equally bad, too! I've got over 200 surches going, but they aren't downloading. So, how do I force my IP address, or do I need to? O is their some other way as to my being able to download...faster? Some other settings I need to do? Computer settings? Option settings...what? I sure would like some help! Thank You, Michael Semar (msemor@bellsouth.net) "Marry Christmas and Happy New Year!":yahoo:

Q. How do I get others to respond (reply) back to me? What "group" or do I have to join? Look, I'm new...dumb, and alittle afraid as to what I download on to my computer. Because of viruses and the such! I need help...! So, I'm asking nicely, okay?

I have a problem launching downloaded video files

Hello!

Like it says, I have a problem with launching downloaded video files. Now, I'm really sorry because I'm sure this is answered somewhere in these threads, but after all of my reading and sifting, I've only come across solutions for people with different makes of modem/router, which doesn't help me. I'm a newbie, so my technical prowess is really really limited.

Right, I can download and play audio files. But video files all appear to be the same size (6343 KB) they download suspiciously quickly, and then my media player says it can't play these files.

I don't know if I'm right in thinking its the fault of my modem/router with it's own firewall. If it is, how do I fix it? If it isn't how do I find out what it is?

I'm using windows xp home edition, 2002 version; Broadband connection 18 Mbps from home; Buffalo WBMR-G54-1 modem router; security from F-Secure.

Please help!

Thank You!

6_pac December 20th, 2006 11:11 AM

Probably not your router or connection. If you can download audio files then you can also d/load videos. Also legitamite movie files are 600 to 800MB/s in size. Anything as small as your trying to d/load is probably porn or spam. For videos I stick with mpg/mpeg or avi. The others tend to be porn or spam.

One thing you can do is check the files with Bitzi Web Lookup before attempting to download them. If noone has rated the file there's a pretty good chance that it's a fake. Then preview the file when it gets to about 15% completed. That way you don't waste your time downloading a dud/empty/renamed porn file.

Try using a different media player. VLC media player has the codecs built in and can play most any file. More info on codecs and players in this thread: CODECs list for Movies/Alternate players / Video help forums/ video-mp3 fixers.

There's also a lot of fake files on the network. You can read more about fake files here: Recognising Fake files.

Then see this thread has good tips to help improve the success of your file searching. How to find music. Also applies to videos.

pokesmot88 December 24th, 2006 03:32 PM

ok i got a question...i downloaded a few exe. program files...when i tried to open then it said "cannot open files due to security reasons" is this because of my computer or because of LM? i really want to figure this out so could anyone explain this to me??

6_pac December 24th, 2006 09:08 PM

LW won't open it. You have to open the file outside of LW. Easiest way to do that is to go to the LW Library, click on the file you want, then click the explore button. The folder will open up and you can run it from there. Be sure to scan it before you open it.

muhctekdano December 24th, 2006 09:47 PM

Was it LW or your antivirus software that was giving you this message? Executable files (.exe) are fairly dangerous to download...they very frequently contain viruses. If you want to download programs, I suggest you go for files with the .rar extension. You can scan them for viruses before you actually use them. Winrar, which is necessary to open these files, is shareware.

Good Luck:xeri_ok1ani:

Surely That Should Be 100% .

6_pac March 19th, 2007 12:11 AM

The file was being uploaded from more than one host. They got 35% from you and the rest from other hosts that had the same file. So the status being complete is correct.

New to Lime Wire

Hey I'm New to Lime Wire, only just downloaded to Windows XP, using broadband connection. After been bugged by my boys to get it as everyone else has it and it is "the bomb"
It worked the first couple of days, though we have been experiencing trouble in downloading as every song we download, goes straight to a window labled "Media Usage Rights Acquisition." and from here directs to advertisment of all sorts.
I've looked through the fourms, frequent questions and answers and have not come up with any ideas on how to fix this.
If anyone can assist;)

Cannot get movie to connect

:bangh: I just paid my $18.88 to regain access to support, and a re-install... And that ain't helping.
Every movie I try to download ends-up with "need more sources" even though the movie lists 70 hits (or whatever). Now with the new Beta 4.13.2 it tells me that it has tried 26 sources (or whatever) but I still end-up with "need more sources". And these are hits that say "Browse Host" or "Chat with Host." So the host should be online.
I have had Limewire for a year (which is why my support ran-out) but I never had these problems.:shoot:
So, I am open to anyone else's suggestions.:xeri_ok1ani:

Maximizing upload/download Success LimeWire

Objective:

I'm starting this thread to address two common problems which seem to appear over and over again in the forums.

General description of the problem:

1. Problems downloading content
2. Low upload count

With the influx of users to peer to peer networking and specifically New LimeWire users many of which I assume are also new broadband users there are several issues that arise out of a general lack of knowledge in what is required to participate in this type of networking model with moderate success. There are a few things that become self evident if you've spent any time on the Gnutella network and these forums.

1. Posts to the forum that don't adequately describe the problem. (for example, I can't connect.) -

The status of these problems would have a higher probability of receiving useful feedback if users provided some basic information such as; machine, operating system, connection speed, location of connection I.E. School work or home.

For example: I'm new to Limewire- I just downloaded limewire and installed it on a Windows 98 Machine with a T1 connection to the network from school. I don't have a firewall installed on my computer and don't know if there is one here but I cannot seem to connect using limewire. My other application i'e web browsers and email work fine. Can anybody tell me what's wrong?

2. Posts to the forum for issues that have been addressed in the FAQs suggests that people are not reading them.

3. Posts to forum for issues that have been addressed in other threads this also suggests that people are not even reading the threads before they post.
4. Post to areas of the forum that are not necessarily dedicated to the issues being raised. Connection Problems in the Open Discussion Forum. MAC issues in the Open Forum.

5. Finally, posts to the forum that have nothing to do with file sharing.

Now, for the problems people are having with uploading / downloading, Consider the following suggestions:

To maximize your ability to download successfully do the following things:

1. Go to tools/options/searching/Quality (show all four star results)

This will effectively filter out all of the people who are behind firewalls or have other connection issues, this will greatly reduce your frustration in downloading.

I should note however, that this could significantly reduce the amount of content you see, as most of the content being shared on the network is being shared from hosts which are poorly configured for sharing and you would probably have problems downloading from them anyway.

2. Go to tools/options/searching/speed (show all speeds)

I make this suggestion because if you are already filtering by Quality, filtering by speed will further reduce your results. If there 20 people on modem connections that have the content you want why not download from them.

3. Go to tools/options/filters/hosts under the disallow all messages from specific hosts add the following IPs: 192.168.*.* AND 10.*.*.*

I make this suggestion to filter out all the host who have incorrectly forwarded their private IP address on the network. These IP addresses are NOT routable and you will NOT be able to connect and download content from these hosts so ignore results from these guys. if

4. Go to tools/options/filters/keywords Filter out search results containing !!!

Most likely viruses or porn files emulating your search queries.

Now on to problems with uploading. If you are experiencing problems with people up loading from your computer the suggestions I made in and maximizing your ability to download see:( 1 through 4 above.) your machine could be one of these hosts.

I'll start with some general suggestions:

1. Make sure that you are not sharing from a work or school location as peer to peer traffic tends to be administratively prohibited. although it may not be explicitly blocked they could be applying quality of service rules to your traffic.

2. If you are sharing from home - leave your machine on for at least 4 hours (you can't expect people to download from you if you jump on the network do some searches and then disconnect.)

3. Finally, if you are using NAT (meaning that the IP address of your machine is 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x ) now, might be able to connect, search and download from the network but no one will be able to upload from you. If you have taken the advise of others to force your IP using limewire then your half way there, as your port forwarding is working correctly. But, you need to FORCE THE IP OF YOUR ROUTER or FIREWALL to the network. To find out what your ip is from the machine that you use to get on Gnutella open a web browser to http://www.whatismyip.com
(write this IP down and force this IP in Limewire) If you need help testing this Just post a reply to this thread.

By implementing these suggestions you will have better luck downloading and uploading on Gnutella.

thanks now i think i got it!!!
