Limewire fails to install

Thank you for the reply. I am using Vista Business and have had all kinds of issues with this program from problems with itunes to Lime-wire. I believe it may have to do with Vista Business edition missing the media handlers.

Here is what I had to do to get Lime-wire to install correctly and work. I too was thinking virus, I use AT&T's security suite and ran a full scan and the system was clean. Next I ran a spyware scan and found grokster and Lime-wire spyware, removed those removed all entires in the registry that dealt with Lime-wire restarted the system, disabled the security suite and ran the install. Success

Lord of the Rings October 30th, 2008 10:12 AM

May I ask which sppyware scan you used? Reason I ask is many are not p2p friendly & will see many p2p programs as having spyware when in fact they don't & then muck up the program. But the fact it works is fantastic. I wonder if it was something you downloaded ... it's got me curious now. :)

tmarti October 30th, 2008 11:04 AM

Lime-wire fails to install

I use AT&T exclusively. It discovers spyware that Ewido and SpyBot do not detect. I managed 1100 mixed OS computers (Apple and Windows) I tried all kinds of spyware detection programs, found SpyBot the best until I started using AT&T. The systems I use to manage were in a middle school and it gave me the best platform to test all kinds of software to keep systems up and running. I developed scripts to image systems and found that some spyware and viruses can not be removed. So backups to a 7 TeraByte setup and Ghost to re-image was a life safer. On site I used Sophos, Mc Afee and on Apple Sophos and Dans Guardian and found that for windows AT&T security suite is the solution.

Tony

Lord of the Rings October 30th, 2008 11:12 AM

Thanks for the heads up on the Mac one. :) From what I've googled, AT & T sounds good. :)

Yes same issue with anti virus programs ... they do not all detect/remove all viruses. Some are slow to catch up (or never do) with definitions for some viruses that have been around for a while, which includes some of the so called 'major' AV companies. Strange that some of the free av programs can sometimes remove viruses that the major commercial AV programs cannot remove, and perhaps not even detect.

monkyman345 November 6th, 2008 08:05 PM

when i try to install all these errors come up and ask me to "try again" "abort" and "ignore"

piaculum November 16th, 2008 08:50 PM

I tried to download it, but now it won't even download. Everytime I hit the link and look at my download window, it says:

"This download has been blocked by your Security Zone Policy- Limewire.com"

Along with a giant Red circle with an "X" icon next to this message in the download window.

Why is this happening?
I've downloaded Limewire before, then one day I got the newer version and then it wouldn't run when I clicked it. I tried to re-download Limewire, but nothing seems to be working...

In your internet explorer -- temp disable your popup blocker -- allow it to download LW -- this will fix it

In addition to Skyliner's advice, download 'this' offline installer version: http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

Grandpa is retired from the forums. :)

BearShare section is really more appropriate for your question. However, a quick answer is B.S. sold out under court pressure, and the new owners have mangled the program in order to disable downloading copyright material. I'd suggest you get this version: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...sabotaged.html there is a trick to use it however, so not sure if you would be happy with that. ;)

* Important note when installing on VISTA, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post289927

If permissions does not fix it yet, then -> Try steps here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post333278 & find LW preferences here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html (you might not have any preferences yet.)

hello, well i'm not using vista, i'm using windows xp. but thank u for ur help

Lord of the Rings December 8th, 2008 06:59 AM

The second link is important then in my previous post. Also check compatibility mode & admin mode just in case, sometimes they seem to solve issues, as listed in the Fixes for LW. :)

Another thought is you have a security program that is preventing LW from running. ;)

trina72 December 25th, 2008 09:48 AM

I keep getting the error message "could not open input for splittet files" or something like that. Tryin to download some music for my son on CHRISTMAS! It's bad enough he didn't get the Ipod Touch that he wanted now I can't even download LIMEWIRE? Bah Humbug! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lord of the Rings December 25th, 2008 10:48 AM

Use these options: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post333278

Best to have the most recent Java version installed to run LW & best if no previous versions on the system. :) Then download the 'Offline' LW installer as mentioned. :)

shawnperdue January 31st, 2009 09:16 AM

advice

I had alot of problems with both installers and I took the advice of someone on this board and it worked.Uninstall limewire and java, and reinstall both wth the offline installers.now LW.is fine.

heartbreaker012 February 22nd, 2009 08:09 AM

I've tried to download it like 10 times and it won't work! I have windows Vista and it worked before and I had it for a little less than a year then deleted because it was acting up. Why won't download now?

WOODY2078 March 1st, 2009 04:00 PM

Hi guys I am having a problem... i try to install limewire and I get the NSIS error.. saying "the installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete" any help?

Lord of the Rings March 1st, 2009 04:05 PM

Try this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html. If you are using VISTA, set the installer to Run as Admin. after right-clicking it. :) If that doesn't work, change compatibility mode via right-clicking & choosing. Oh & you must have Java 1.6 (6) for LW 5 version. :)

payney March 9th, 2009 07:10 AM

problems downloading

cant download lime wire update now lost limewire altogether it says

birdy March 9th, 2009 08:58 PM

And if that doesn't help, check out this thread (click on blue link) for another possible solution: splitet files

Lord of the Rings March 12th, 2009 12:12 PM

Recommended LimeWire variation to use is WireShare, which was released for Windows March 2014 and is an upgrade to LimeWire Pirate Edition 5.6.2 from late 2010. Many bug-fixes and improvements and is being constantly improved. Can run with the latest Java version. If you prefer earlier LW versions, then see below.

* NOTE: to connect with any of the following programs, you will need to either run LPE ConnectFix (*Recommended* for LW 4 or 5) . . The LW install packages have Connection installers included. LW must be closed when you use a connection fix installer. If does not connect first time, close LW, wait 2 minutes, then use the Fix again.) This will allow you to connect whether using LW 5 or LW 4 :) OR see Birdy's http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html.

Recently included security package with each of these LW installers to install before you install LW. The security packages include a connection fix but the connection file might be out of date by the time you use it.

ie: (1) Do the suggested installation steps included with the installers. . (2) Add LimeWire to your Firewall exception rules. . (3) If LimeWire does not connect, then close LW & make sure LW is totally closed & not sitting in Tray (check Task Manager, if still running, force LW to close.) . (4) Run the Connection-Fix program. . (5) Open LW again, wait up ro 20 mins for LW to connect. . (6) Repeat Connection-Fix process if necessary whilst LW is closed.

To install any LW 5 including LimeWire Pirate Edition under Java 7 (1.7) or later Java versions, there are a couple of tricks you need to do:
1. If using Vista or Windows 7 or later, set the Java 7 (1.7 or later versions) installer to Run as Administrator. Otherwise it will contribute to connection problems.
2. For LW 5 versions only, if you are using Java 7 (or later version Java) then use the LW-Java Shortcut installer. (Alternative is to install Java 1.6 instead.) LimeWire 4 versions are unaffected and will run fine with Java 1.7+.
When updating Java 7, always update the 32-bit Java last. Otherwise problems with LW will occur.
Note: WireShare version has fixed the problems listed above.

Windows 8 or later is not packaged with Java, so you will need to install Java to use LW. Remember to set the Java installer to Run as Administrator.

LW versions from 4 to 5 are listed on this page. Under no circumstances attempt to run versions of LW after LW 5.5.10 or earlier than LW 4. (exception is the LW 5.6 beta.) . Do not use versions between 5.0 to 5.1. Such users are known as spammers on the network. . LW 5 installers are listed half way down this post.

People who still have active LW Pro 5.5 activation on their computer will still be able to use LW 5 in Pro mode if you use any of the LW 5.5 or 5.6 beta installers included below. This only applies to present Pro 5.5 Pro users, does not apply to any other users. Else the program is used in Basic mode. It is not possible to activate new Pro 5.5 users even with the Pro key code. Activation might also be time limited.

Not sure where to post this so shall post it here. Some people who are unable to use the later LW versions for whatever reasons, after having tried the fixes here may need to use an older version. This might be due to their older operating system unable to use the later Java versions. Or might be due to their specific system set up. So I am posting some links to older versions of LW. Under normal circumstances these should not be used, however if you fall into the above category, then here are some options:
(Mac OSX users only click here) . . (Linux users only click here)

* If downgrading from LW 5, you need to see THIS (click on link)

You should be aware that all LW versions after 4.17 no longer upload to versions older than 4.14, thus you would be losing out connecting to much of the network for finding and sharing files.

* To choose from a download folder, find all Windows LW versions 4 and 5 here" (Click the icon to view the files in List mode so you can see their full name and version. Then select file, then click the down arrow at top to start downloading your choice of file. Sample OSX equivalent image here.) But first, check LW version details below.

Mirror site: 4Shared download folder. Instructions for downloading from 4Shared.com. You need to be a member of 4Shared to download from their site (using Morpheus Fix as an example): 4Shared sample image. You will find it easier to download via Google Drive (GD) or Sabercat because no registration required and no deceptive advertisements or deceptive/false download buttons belonging to advertisers.

LimeWire 4 versions . . . . (GD Mirror Download Links)

No version earlier than 4 should be used nowadays. They will most likely be blocked by later versions & other gnutella program clients.
LimeWire 4.12.15.zip ____ * LimeWire 4.14.8.zip * / Mirror ____ LimeWire 4.14.12.zip / Mirror ____ LimeWire 4.16.7.zip _____ Before downgrading from either LW 5 or 4.18, please see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...downloads.html
LW 4.18.8 version found here LimeWire 4.18.8.zip

[LW v4.14+ supported both DHT and TLS if host is not firewalled. 4.14 to 4.16 TLS could affect ability to connect well.]

Otherwise use a LW 5 version or WireShare. WireShare is the latest version.
You should check the versions here Changelog - LimeWire 5 only to see what bugs they may have had at the time. ;) (sorry, the Gnutella forum are in process of re-doing the changelog for users. The original LW location has closed down.)

LimeWire 5 versions . . . . (GD Mirror Download Links . OR . SaberCat mirror download)

Those wishing to remain with LW 5, do NOT go beyond version 5.5.10 for versions 5.5.x, which can be obtained here LW 5.5.10 (click on link) (Released 24 June 2010.)

You will not be able to connect unless you change your Gnutella.net file, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html about how to do, OR run one of the Connection-Fix programs. Takes a fraction of a second to run. This will allow you to connect whether using LW 5 or LW 4. :) (Remember LW must be closed before you run the Connection Fix programs.)

Other LW 5 versions: LW 5.5.9 (29 May 2010.) . . LW 5.5.8 (24 March 2010.) . . LW 5.4.8 (20 Feb 2010.) . . LW 5.4.6 (16 December 2009.) . . LW 5.3.6 (30 September 2009.)

* Recommended: either . (1) WireShare - Released March 2014 with periodic updates.
Or (2) File_Girl's LPE . (No legal notice, connects easily, runs like Pro mode; this version released by File_Girl71 on 12 November 2010 to remove the ugly splash screen & non-functioning AV! More information here.)

* To use any LimeWire 5 version under Java 7 (1.7) or later see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368753. LimeStart will fix overcome this issue. LimeStart is packaged with all the LW 5 versions listed on this page.
Neither WireShare or LimeWire 4 are affected by this issue.

Beta versions . LimeWire Changelog link

LW 5.6.0 was a Beta released a couple months before 5.5.10, it did include some additions which had not yet made it into the mainstream program. For those who wish to use it, LW 5.6.0 (20 April 2010.) (this version is safe to use!).
LW 5.6.1 (10 May 2010.) (this version is safe to use!).

LW prototypes-lightweight, . . LW prototypes-lan-mode, . . LW prototypes-geo-restrict
(Prototypes released on 4 May 2010 except Lightweight on 18 May 2010. The Prototypes were spin-off versions from LW 5.5/5.6 however may have their own version number.) . (Lightweight was designed to use less computer resources than regular LW and is half the file-size but same functionality. LAN mode, speaks for itself, designed to run on a local network presumably LAN or WAN. Geo-Restrict was designed to search & share files around local geographic area/region.)

LimeWirePortable_1.0.0.0.paf.exe (Released 9 December 2009.) . (No installation necessary, can use on any portable device that's connected to internet. eg: flash drive, external HDD, etc. The Portable was supposedly based on LW version 5.3, however looks more like version 5.0 or 5.1)

Can anyone help me???

:bangh: I am having difficulties getting limewire to run. I keep getting a fatal error stating that the program cannot start, and it may have encountered a problem downloading or installing, to try again. I have done so many many times with no luck. I have double checked all of my security settings and allow limewire to loop.... It's very frustrating seeing how i just purchased the program. I really hate to go with the older version unless i can get my money refunded.. Any tips??? (BTW I'm using a brand new Dell computer with tons of capacity..and running windows xp.)

Can anyone help me????

Lord of the Rings March 12th, 2009 01:48 PM

Which version of LW are you running?

I'd suggest you do these things: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html. (For you, get your installer from your Pro page, however you probably already have a copy on your desktop right?). Also delete your LW preferences folder: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932

'Generally' the answer to such fatal errors is running LW in a particular mode. See points 5 & 6 here: Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link). If running Vista then choose XP compatibility. Also, whether using Vista or not, set it to run as Admin.

Which firewall? For XP you click on the firewall icon at far right of tray. Else find the firewall in your Control Panel. :) Add an exception for LW; Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

Do you have any other firewalls? Try installing this version. http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe but only if you wish to use LW 5.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...p-firewall.gif

.

kilzall April 11th, 2009 02:44 PM

i made sure the firewall would allow limewire and i even tried to load the other version you suggested and still i get the same error message.

kilzall April 11th, 2009 02:48 PM

the message now says that there was a bug and asks if i want to send the bug back to limewire for them to fix..... very confused:eek:

Lord of the Rings April 11th, 2009 03:51 PM

Upgraded to XP. I wonder if there's any issues with that.
Try this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html but instead use use one of the LW versions listed in post #427 above. ;) Might I suggest you try LW 4.16.7. So instead of step 2 in that link, use LW 4.16.7 , but do not install it until step 7. ;)

kilzall April 11th, 2009 05:08 PM

again i get the error about the firewall not allowing it... i give up

im not very computer savy, but i have a brand new HP laptop with the neest version of Vista- i tried to install LW and it has been stuck at "Please wait, Installing Flash"... im only trying to get the basic version, I tried the backup and its is sitting at the same spot as well. I have flash, i think its even Flash9, but y is it tryin to install it? Did i click a wrong button when all the pop-ups came on? Should i have hit save not run? CONFUSED!

LW Version 5
Windows Vista
Internet explorer 7-connected to my desktop router(linksys wrgt...)
Flash 9
8GB (brand new got nothin on it yet)

Lord of the Rings April 29th, 2009 10:05 AM

Use this installer instead http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe :) It's what we call an Offline installer, in that all the components are already within the installer, no waiting for parts to transfer across the internet. Also, right-click the installer & choose to run as Administrator. You will need to do same for LW after you install it. :)

sierran April 29th, 2009 10:36 AM

it still doing the same thing! and i cant right click- i am also already set up as the administrator for this computer... i was able to get LW 4, but i cant play any music off of it?! i used to have LW on an older computer i dont know why im having such a hard time?! this problem wouldnt have anything to do with maybe firewall or anything would it?

sierran April 29th, 2009 10:37 AM

well actually, now since i had to close LW4 to try to get LW5, i cant even open it anymore, it says to re-install it! o man!

Lord of the Rings April 29th, 2009 10:44 AM

Yes you cannot have both on same computer unfortunately. LW 5 installer will have uninstalled LW 4 at beginning of the installation process. So choice is yours. BTW LW 5 is not so great at moment, it is missing tools & has several bugs. Might be best waiting several months until they improve it. To reinstall LW 4, see Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

Hi, everytime i try to install limewire 5.1.2 i get the message shown in the picture. I don't know what to do. I've tried installing the normal version and the one you give on this forum, but I get the same message.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but it doesn't fix the problem. Please help?

I've been using limewire on windows XP and it works great. I love limewire, and it would be a shame to have to find a new program just because i can't install limewire on windows Vista.

Please help me. Thank you very much.

I hate Vista

I hate Vista. Never had a problem with LW until getting a new computer with Vista. The LW upgrade worked well enough, but at the bottom of the screen it takes a long time trying to connect and then shows a "no connectivity icon'. Even turning off my firewall and makiing LW an approved site didn't work. Anyone familiar with this issue?

Ashadow May 17th, 2009 05:28 AM

Hey thanks!

Tried one of the links to reinstall and it worked. Thanks.

WGodsvd May 17th, 2009 03:52 PM

Grandpa,
I tried the full installer. I have Windows Vista and had Limewire.4.18.1. I tried to do the upgrade install and it got as far as deleting some of the older versions files. Then when I double click on the install, give it English as my language and click install (after it shows me where it is going to install) it starts to run and then says error reading limewire.exe. My options are to abort, retry or cancel. I tried retry, it just goes back to error. I tried cancel once and then I got another error on another file so of course abort takes me out...I cleared my dowload file and my temp file and tried the link provided by you. Same errors....help please Also I tried to go back to my original Limewire, but it says it is missing files (naturally, as they were deleted.) What next?
THanks
WGodsvd

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html Use that version of LW installer, or for 4.18 get this one Get LimeWire for Your Platform - Lime Wire
For Vista, run the installer set as Admin after right-clicking the installer.
