I am using Windows Vista, and I had Limewire 4.18 before it would no longer connect as I had updated my Norton Internet Security. I have recently updated Limewire to Limewire 5, but I still can not connect. I have been through all other solutions, such as uninstalling it, and changing my settings on Norton, but it still will NOT connect. What is wrong with it, and is there anything I can do? It's beginning to annoy me now, as I have had past problems with Limewire. Please get back to me as soon as possible please!

Remove & re-add LW to Norton's exceptions.

Remove the Gnutella.net file from the preferences folder & delete that file. You can find LW prefs folder here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html. You must do this whilst LW program is CLOSED ! LW will create a new gnutella.net file next time you open LW. :) Also, disable performance options as described here: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link)

I made a video tutorial on this a while back on YouTube here: YouTube - Limewire won't connect - Vista and XP Fix and the step-by-step detailed tutorial is here: http://bluefaqs.com/?p=8 This has worked for hundreds of people according to text comments and has a 5 star rating after 10,000 views. There is a hidden limewire folder that must be deleted to allow the connection to take place. It's typically not going to be a firewall issue. Hope this helps you guys.

All of my security programs are allowing it through, and I've used every troubleshooting recommendation I could find to no avail. It may be the clearing of the preferences thing that worked for so many of you, but Vista's documents and settings are rigged a bit differently then XP. There's a documents icon but no settings that I can find so I can't find the way to clear my limewire preferences. I'd be eternally greatful if anyone can help with this.

This YouTube video is specific to Vista users and will more than likely fix your problem: YouTube - Limewire won't connect - Vista and XP Fix and the step-by-step instructions are here: How To Get Limewire To Connect Vista and XP Users*|*BlueFAQs.com Hope this helps

Nice suggestion, however it is all explained on the first page of this thread from 6 years ago. :) And you don't think this says same thing? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html that's been around for a couple years. :)

It really depends on whether people are willing to 'search' for answers. That's why we Sticky them at top of each section of the forums. But people are generally lazy, just come here, post their problem & want an instant answer. Forum rules mean little to many members & they see it as a bothersome window to scroll down from to make their first post. lol :D

Thank you SpecksTX :) Don't take my comments the wrong way. Thank you for your constructive help. :)

Check out Grandpa's advice here: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista
Look in C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire (the prefs folder is named LimeWire & that's the one to delete).

I tried connecting, but i just recently moved to LW5 from FrostWire, but i had the same issue with FrostWire... I couldn't connect. This all started after my Norton Antivirus subscription was up... can anyone help?!?!?!???

Lord of the Rings May 3rd, 2009 10:41 AM

Does your Norton include Norton firewall/security? Some people don't realise their Norton includes a firewall, can you check?
Have a look at top of page for the link on system details. :)

jT1002 May 3rd, 2009 12:44 PM

Ok.. I have LW5.1.2, I am using WinXP, I am not an expert but i have some experience with p2p programs, I have 2 gigs of ram, about 40 gigs of harddrive unused, and the only antivirus/security program i have is Norton Antivirus. My modem is a USB iBurst Wireless interface, and i have never had problems like this before with it.

No, everything will remain in your music folder.

Ok, I have installed for the moment LW 4.8 because right now LW 5 is not working for me.

Anyway, I have tried to delete the .limewire folder and uncheck the auto-connect feature when limewire starts. All following the instructions in this forum. It just says "Connecting", stays this way for hours but it doesn't connect.

I tried opening the port that it uses: 6346. I quit LW, restart it and it still does not connect.

Any other suggestions? Thank you very much. I'm using windows Vista.

Hi,
Try these fixes please (If LW 4 will not connect) do them in this order:-
[1] check your firewall
[2] delete/replace gnutella.net File
[3] delete limewire's preferences folder (another name for Limewire foler)
if still not working go back to the top and do the remainder of the fixes
Please let us know how you get on

tls encryption

did what you said removed everthing and reinstalled and that happens is and it has been doing it all day loading TLS encryption it is driving me mad

Lord of the Rings November 7th, 2009 06:39 AM

You can disable TLS in preferences. For windows that's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> SuperReallyAdvanced -> Performance, & turn that option off. 'If' you can get that far.

If not, check steps 3, 5 & 6 here: Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link)

Check here for how to find the preferences folder (folder is named LimeWire) in Vista: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista
Make sure that LW is completely closed (check in Task Manager) before deleting the prefs folder, otherwise it will have no effect :)

Not sure what you mean about turning off auto load  If you mean disabling LW running at system startup - which version of LW are you using?

Help needed

Hello everyone,
I have been trying to connect to Limewire for days know and trying virtually everything. I have windows xp and I'm using norton 2010. Every time I try to connect it says I'm behind a firewall and it does not support firewall transfers. Likewise, I tried everything from deleting the preference folder, uninstalling/reinstalling, getting the most up to date version, upgrading to Limewire PRO. So as you can see, I've tried everything so can some one anyone help me.....

birdy December 11th, 2009 04:53 PM

Have you tried any of the various other fixes in the threads below (depending on whether you were originally using LW 4 or LW 5)?
If LW 4 Will Not Connect

If LW 5 Will Not Connect

If nothing there helps, please post back with your system details (threads above have info about which details we need) :)

wjd1967 December 25th, 2009 08:02 PM

This does not really tell me where to find the directory. I have XP, I go to C:/Documents and Settings, but what is "your username" under? I have two folders under Documents and Settings, All Users and Owner, then several folders under each of those. Where do I find what I need?
