Have you tried an earlier version of LW? You could try Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers 4.12 at least for time being. ;) As I was saying in my previous post, I have same problem as you. I am trying to figure the problem out. I am guessing it is java related. Personally I'm using 4.16 at present. |
Thanks! This fix worked for me - thanks! |
One problem with the older versions (older than 4.14) is they will not be able to download from any version newer than 4.17.4. But that's just a small sacrifice for now. ;) |
I have had Limewire for quite some time and now I am getting a firewall block. I have looked at all config. and Limewire is on the exception list on both windows firewall and PCillun virus program. I have even turned off all firewalls to see if that worked and it did not. I am at a loss...I have COMPLETELY deleted all limewire files (hidden also), re-downloaded, called DELL and local ISP. They offer no help and said it was a Limewire issue. I do not have Mcafee and modem is working correctly. ANY HELP? |
Try a combination of these tips If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link). Often it's the gnutella.net file, but other options might also help. :) |
Thank you! Got it to work, finally. I have a inspiron 1525, desktop, and took it to another location and Limewire worked perfectly. I brought the computer home called my ISP again and downloaded updates for my modem! Once again I appreciate your help! This was a nightmare.... Paul |

Sometimes LW can be slow to connect. Especially if too many incomplete files flooding your modem/router. Disabling the Performance options & purging incomplete files sometimes does the trick. If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link). Sometimes the problem is fake/dud ultrapeers you connect to. |
those who can't morning guys nicknj6, hi limewacko please instruct on how to find lw pref disable for auto connect at launch greatly appreciated and welcomehttp://www.gnutellaforums.com/images/editor/smilie.gif |

I've done this C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/ - but there is no limewire folder! |
For the newer users it's in a different location: LimeWire 4.10 or later preferences name & location sample image & for VISTA users, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html |
good morning everone, hope your holiday was as happy as you wanted. granpa,i found out that tool tab worked when my bars finally turned blue after almost 24hrs. however it showed a graph on both sides in adv i had no clue, wish you could share my screen. the graph was like a bullseye with 3 different positions after 3 clicks at this point i can.t even buy a vowel meanwhile firewall is strong and ever vigilant looking for life preserver nicknj6 |
Tried this, but no luck. Am using LW 4.12.6 Pro with v 1.6.0_11 of JAVA. Was working fine an now I can't connect at all. Was thinking about upgrading to newer version of LW, but want some reasonable assurances that that would solve my problem.. Don't want to spend another $30 and still have problem. |
Yes!! That idea worked for me, XP user. Thanks |
Welcome raydec. :) Upgrading Versions Will Not necessarily fix any problem much less a connection issue. Usually connection issues are contributed to Firewalls, ISP's, Routers/Modums w/NAT. You say " Tried This " which doesn't tell us anything, since this thread is HUGH. I'll give you a few Links to check out. Connection Problems are the #1 biggest issue here, so if you would elaborate, it might be usefull. See Links below. Connection problems? Check here first! i have firewall problem how to solve this? |
I have never had limewire installed. I installed today, & can't connect. Why would I need to do any trouble shooting?!?! Sounds like the program doesn't work. I installed from http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe HELP! as it searches for HOURS for one song. |
Try the fixes in the thread below (start off by replacing the gnutella.net file). If nothing there helps, please post back with your system details. If LW Will Not Connect |
worked for me! thanks a bunch. running OSX 10.5 |
I am using Windows Vista Business and cannot connect to Limewire at all. I have a firewall but have permitted this program access in my security centre. Can anyone help me out her as it has been running trying to connect for 2 days and still nothing. |

If i uninstall Linewire and re-install it to correct a connection problem, will I lose my entire library of saved audio files? Can anyone help me with this? |
Have you changed the location of your saved folder at all? Providing you haven't been saving files to within LW's program files (C:\Program Files\LimeWire) then you shouldn't lose anything. Some people mistakenly save their downloads within Program Files & in that case, uninstalling LW will mean that downloads are lost. It's also a bad idea to save files within C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\LimeWire... because deleting LW's preferences folder would delete downloads as well. To check where your files are being saved, in LW go tools > oiptions > saving. You'll see the location of your saved folder there. It's always a good idea to back up your files, just in case of a system crash or other tragedy;) |

Depends on which operating version you are using & which LW version you started with. If you started with a version of LW over past 2 years, then the folder is now called limewire not .limewire. :) (a) Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) (b) If using Vista then see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html I suspect chances are the problem is more than your preferences folder but a firewall somewhere. Provide all these details & this may help us to pin point the probable problem: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) |
okay, well i deleted that, and all my limewire stuff is closed.. i turned off my windows firewall stuff, and i'm not 'tech smart' if you know what i mean. I still can't seem to figure it out. And i am wht windows XP |
also it says firewall detected, but i dont know how to check and where ot go and what to do |
Well ... see the last link I gave in my post above. :) We cannot help much without those details. :) |
I cannot connect either, I've checked my security settings and all are ok, But i did see something about the Java platform, the newest upgrade is 1.6.0_10 do you suppose this has something to do with the problem Thanks |
The delete hidden folder options worked for me , all set Grampa, TY |
