There's a very good reason we demand System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) as stated in forum rules for Connection Problems. We cannot help much without them other than suggest try the suggestions in this thread http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

Not everyone's connection problem is the same, so knowing what type of system you have, routers, isp, etc. & use history can help us determine what suggestions to make to help.

TammyDee October 30th, 2008 06:25 AM

Limewire is off their ROCKER

Nope, all the suggestions that you gave me as well as hundreds of others does not work. Why when a consumer purchases a program from a company, such as Limewire, it takes an entire day and part of another day to figure out? Why should we, a consumer have to join a forum to get help from others? Why can't things just work? If they don't work, don't sell them! This has been the most frustrating thing for me. I lost more time at work yesterday than it cost me to buy limewire!!!! This is a joke...and then do you think we are dummies? We joined this forum for a reason... to figure out the problem on our own since Limewire HAS NOT CONTACTED ME BACK ABOUT MY ISSUE, and has no LIVE SUPPORT! I have tried all the suggestions like everyone else and once again, here I sit STILL trying to figure this out... Your suggestions haven't work, won't work, but are appreciated. LIMEWIRE PEOPLE HELLO........Can you just pick up the phone and walk people thru this? I mean come on, how long would it really take? We pay you to join limewire....give us what we paid for or shut the doors!

LimeWire Basic is free. :)
It's difficult to help when you haven't provided any details of your set up at all. The forum rules specify for connection problems details need to be provided. We cannot help much without them other than point you to some general suggestions. Case closed by the looks. Most likely you'd have same problem with using any other p2p sharing program.

That's the problem with p2p sharing programs, many people expect them to always work perfectly out of the box without any settings made on their computer.

I have an HP Windows Vista Computer and do share my internet with other people but I have also been doing so for the past two years and have had the last versions of LimeWire on my computer for those times and didn't have any problems until now. I have Trend Micro AntiVirus and NOW LimeWire version 4.18.8. I took the version before it, 4.18.3, off of my computer for space sake but am trying to download a torrent and so downloaded LimeWire again which gave me the latest version. I have Basic, of course, because if I had that much money I would just go buy this stuff instead.

When I open this version it takes it's time showing me 1 red bar which means it's connecting and never goes any farther. I wait a good 20 minutes. All the previous versions took seconds to at least get to the second bar to tell me LimeWire was now connected. It also disconnects on its own and then I go up to File and click "connect" and it connects for about 4 seconds before disconnecting again. I am completely connected to the internet during all of this outside of LimeWire. I checked out my Trend Micro a couple of times and couldn't find any reason it would be blocking it but I could have missed something. Can someone help me figure this out? I've had the last five versions before this and never had a problem until now.

DuneAlia October 31st, 2008 07:12 PM

Never mind. Once again LimeWire didn't download completely. I will admit it does seem to do that constantly especially when the latest version is still VERY new. Too bad because that gets lots of complaints even though it's not the program itself but the process to download the progam in the first place. So the program gets a bad rep at the very beginning when it works fine but the process from the site makes it so it can't be used right and people have to go to the site to find out why it doesn't work right when the program does it just didn't download right from the site.

Here's another thing: Why do only Pro users get to ask for help through e-mails and not Basic? I would have asked there instead of here but it said only for Pro users and Basic were restricted to Forums only. How unfair. No we don't pay for the use but the Pro users who do get their stuff from us so why can't we get the same treatmen?

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2008 07:36 PM

Pro support tends to be slow anyway. We give much more prompt replies. :) And support is one of the things pro users pay for.

Bookmark this link http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe ... it's the full OFFLINE installer, so no mucking around downloading parts off websites & parts over gnutella network during the actual installation.

Serious Connections Issues!!!

I would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction on how to get my limewire fixed. I'm running Microsoft Vista, and have successfully used limewire on it before. I upgraded to a new version a few months back, and ever since it hasn't connected. Limewire will load but then sits there "currently connecting to the network" but it never does. I've tried so many things i've completely turned off any firewalls, but the firewall still shows up in front of globe, i tried changing the performance features under tools, i've completely uninstalled and re-installed, nothing works....it's killin me....SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!

Lord of the Rings November 1st, 2008 05:03 AM

Did you replace the gnutella file in the LW preferences folder?

jontin06 November 2nd, 2008 02:56 AM

how would i do that??

miamio November 2nd, 2008 10:33 AM

works then doesn't work what is going on with Limewire.

This getting to be not worth having as a great p2p service anymore! What is it with Limewire can anyone tell us if there are problems with the owners or is there a major clich in the tech dept. I have tried everything to get this service to complely start. It was working find then just stopped.
Can anyone help us with a true and real fix!!

What about VISTA users where will the preferences directory be located? I can't find it :-/

dsrt16 November 4th, 2008 07:37 PM

Windows Vista

I just bought a brand new computer, and it has windows vista, which I think is LAME.

Anyway, it won't even let me open my documents and settings folder to try this. It just says access denied.

Any help?

miamio November 4th, 2008 07:48 PM

It works one day and then you shut it down and it will not work. Is anyone have a solution that will work for people who want change in this work like Obama who looks like he will win so can he fix our problem with linewire?

Still not working for me.

I just joined the forum this evening after not being able to connect for the last few days. It has always worked great for me and I have done nothing different. It is showing that I have a firewall but it is just the standard Microsoft firewall that has always been there. I tried deleting preferences and it is still not connecting.

Any ideas?

suewalton21 November 9th, 2008 01:31 PM

I have a laptopwhich connects first time
But my PC won't
Both use same ISP (aol) and both run XP
I tried this fix
I have gone from no bars to 3 but still no connection

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

I have XP on my old Computer and when I deleted in C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire and restarted Limewire it worked like a charm.

However I still can not get it to work on my new computer that uses Vista. Anyone with Vista been able to get it up and running? I've uninstalled and installed it a bunch of times and still no luck. I even went one by one to delete folders and nothing.

I do not see a .limewire file in this folder?

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2008 06:10 PM

1. If you are using VISTA, the folder will be called Limewire, NOT .Limewire :)

2. You will only see that folder if (a) you have previously opened LimeWire & made settings. (b) you have turned on Show All Hidden Files & Folders; How to find LW Preferences folder in Vista (click on blue link).

If you're not using VISTA, then see Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Can you direct me where to find this file in Windows Vista? Thanks.

lmao :lmao: See the first link in my post just above. :)
*sighs* people who cannot read information posted for this purpose. There's also a Sticky in the VISTA section of forums (link I gave above) about where to find the LW preferences folder for vista. Obviously you skipped past the forum rules right? lol :D

Cravo75aus December 3rd, 2008 03:13 AM

Hey guys. I am running Vista Basic and have tried every way to follow the instructions so far and either can't find the library folder and/or the file that is requied to be deleted. If someone else if having trouble logging on and using this operating system, I would love to hear from you with some thoughts on how to fix this problem. Cheers from downunder.

If my ISP dissallowed Gnutella connections, wouldn't that also stop me from viewing this forum? I can't get a connection here where I am staying (DSL), yet at home it works well (cable) and at my daughters it works (dial-up). All with the same laptop. This makes me think that the ISP is blocking it. Any suggestions?

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2008 08:00 PM

Gnutella is p2p, from person to person. This forum is a typical forum site. :)

Different accounts by the sounds of things. Try changing the 'Listening port' -> LW's menu bar -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewalls. Change it to something between 49152 - 65535.

Modems/routers are governed by ip control usually. Each account on the computer will have a different ip address. Only one port number can be used by one ip (two accounts cannot use same port number ... for listening at least.)

Check these options also: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

JCC December 4th, 2008 09:18 AM

how do you take auto load off?

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2008 04:45 PM

LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > System start up. :)

To stop connecting automatically when LW is opened, Tools > Options > Connection.

xfreakazoidx December 4th, 2008 09:35 PM

Ok. I've had Limewire for years and never really had a problem with it, nothing I couldn't fix. I even (yes I can admit it) for 2 days had the pro version (from a friend) but felt like dirt and got rid of it and am currently in the process of getting it legally. Anywho....all that time it always worked. It started up and connected usually right away. Now I haven't used it for about 6-8 weeks now.

Today I start it and it won't connect! It says it is and under the connections it just keeps loading them over and over again! I tried reinstalling it. I restarted pc. I even defragged and all that. Now I tried everything people said and no luck. Only two things I have to mention though.

1. I did a virus check yesterday (routine) and it found some H@tkey virus thing. That related to Limewire? I know some programs have things that virus scanners think are bad but they are not. Maybe I shouldn't have quarantined it?

2. The only thing I didn't try was deleting settings like was originally posted because I can't find the folder everyone is talking about! Heres my only Limewire folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\(my username)\Application Data\LimeWire

Am I suppose to delete everything in there? Because theres folder and data in there! If not what folder are you guys talking about? I even searched my computer for a ".limewire" folder and came up empty.

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2008 09:43 PM

.limewire only applies to older users who started using the program before 4.12 I think it was.

When upgrading to pro, it's best to delete the LW preferences folder. So do that. If still connection problems, replace the Gnutella file. See other tips also here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html. You may need to combine some of those tips, at least until you get connected. ;)

birdy December 4th, 2008 09:44 PM

You'll only have a folder named .limewire if you've used much older versions of LW in the past... the preferences folder used to be named .limewire. So don't worry if you don't have one.

The folder that you found was the right one. You should delete that whole folder. Deleting that folder will kill all of your LW preferences - all the settings that you've chosen within LW's options. So, if you're not sure of those, you should go through LW's tools > options & write down all of your settings so that you can re-set everything once you restart LW;)

If deleting the prefs folder doesn't help, try the other fixes in this thread: If LW Will Not Connect

This is all I could find about the 'virus': Cheat Engine :: View topic - Why does it say infected.

Oops I'm a bit slow:p

I'm confused. A week ago you posted you were unable to open/launch LW. You also posted in this thread you were unable to connect. Which one is it?
Obviously if you cannot Launch LW you cannot connect. But if that's still the problem then you should be posting in the OSX installation section. ;)

I am unable to launch LW 4.18 in my main account. I installed OSX on a different drive & installed LW 4.18 on there & it works fine. I just updated the OSX on that drive & LW still works fine. But I can only use an older version (4.16) on my main OSX drive.

lwallgren December 9th, 2008 07:11 AM

I can't open/launch LW even though it seems to be installed.
