First, the "delete-the-pref-folder" advice did nothing for me.

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

I have tried everything I possibly could and still cant connect....I have no idea how to do the ISP thing. Please help me I am some what computer challanged!:bangh:

Bryn February 26th, 2008 10:28 PM

Bingo! I found the solution to my LimeWire bad connectivity problem which was stopping any items being downloaded.

1. Close LimeWire and also remove any LimeWire icons that may be sitting in your Taskbar.

2. Go to your Program Files and delete the entire folder that's named LimeWire. Don't open it up - just delete the whole thing.

3. Click open your LimeWire shortcut icon that's on your desktop.

That's it. Worked for me.

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

It says "connecting" but it never connects

It says "connecting" but it never connects. The same thing happened to me a little while ago so I ran Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk on all of my drives and wiped the free space. My LW worked after that. Perhaps it was just a coincidence because this time I went through that whole process and it didn't work. I tried re-installing the program, I tried deleting the preferences, and I tried disabling the auto-connect feature.

1. OS version? Mac OS 9.2

2. What firewalls you have? None.

3. How much ram? 1GB

4. Hard Disk space available? Plenty.

5. Connection type? DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? speedstream 5100

7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home.

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? In the LW Help menu it says client 4.0.10 and nothing about Java. When I click the icon and look at the general info in my Apple File menu, it says LaunchAnywhere 4.5 Mac Edition.

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? SBC (At&T)

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked."

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've been using it for a year or so.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No.

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Waah?

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. None.

16. What country are you living in? U.S. of A.

mamacrab March 20th, 2008 07:24 AM

Yes! Thanks so much, this worked for me. I was getting so frustrated last night when I couldn't get this up and running, and my husband couldn't either. Thanks again!! Going to download some tunes now!! :D

thanks a million - worked first time with windows xp. why isnt this solution posted on your main site rather than a lot of confusion about having been able to connect etc and firewall problems which it wasnt:idea:

Long-time user, first post. I did as these directions suggest, and it worked. This was the first major meltdown I've had with it in a couple of years, but nice to know it was solved by using this solution.

Deleting the Folder absolutely worked for me.

For my 2nd question: where do you type in "C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire"?

I don't remember having a user name.

Thank you.

sometimes if you dont assign a username the computer does it automatically -- for example if you have a HP Computer yr username could be :- (Win XP SP2)

C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Owner/.limewire
or
C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Owner/application data/LimeWire

Wow!! Who else suddenly cannot get on the network ?

I have been using Limewire for years noe suddenly, well a month ago this Firewall appears one computer cannot access the other one still getting downloads even with the brick wall image. Now !! 2 days ago cannot access at all.

1.8 GHz PCs 2 GB free hard drive space. Switched Windows Firewall off - no use still no access. Modem is Arris, router site com. It was the wireless conncted PC that kept on working.

I cannot live without Limewire. Please help.

No good here either. Mine was ok (ish) until I upgraded to Pro. Cant get more than 1 connection bar at all now. Tried removing and reinstalling, made sure Zone Alarm is allowing it, but I've noticed that ZA is showing Limewire ver 1.1 etc is allowed but not the updated ones. Could this be relevant

help us to help you -- in limewire links (below) click on (system details) fill in as much as you can and post back here -- In your case quite possibly - some people have the firewall icon all the time and still download without any problems - it's pretty hard to give you an answer when you dont give us all the info we need.

no you wont see anything marked as preference folder -- but what they are talking about is the "Limewire" Folder -- just delete the limewire folder --
if your problem remains in Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- if it still remains click on (system details) fill in as much as you can and post back here.

It worked! I went in and deleted the .limewire folder and that did the trick! Once I opened Limewire, I had to assign the folders I wanted to share again but that was easy to do. Thanks so much! :)

Hi,

Not having any luck on Vista or XP?? I disabled the "tips"box.

Where is the "auto-connect" option??

I do not have a .limewire file?? Only a LimeWire in "my documents" and it is empty

Hi. I think you have to open Limewire, then go to Tools and Options to get to the auto-connect option. Hope this helps! :)

OK. Then you probably will have to delete your LimeWire folder if you have not tried that already. Here is what you do:

Go to your Start Menu.
Click on My Computer.
Double click on C drive.
Double click on Documents and Settings
Double click on the folder with your username
Double click on Application Data. Once you're in the Application Data, look for a folder named either .limewire or LimeWire. Delete that whole folder. Close all folders.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...refsfolder.jpg

Restart your computer.

Start up LimeWire & see whether it will connect. It may ask you a couple of questions to get you started again. If Limewire connects, you're all done & you can go back through Tools and Options to set everything there back to the way you like it.

Hope this helps! It worked like a charm for me. Good luck! :rolleyes_2:

Lord of the Rings May 6th, 2008 02:44 PM

Keep in mind the Application Data folder is a Hidden folder. ;)
If it doesn't show up, see Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)
But LW MUST be ClOSED at that time. :)
