yblt ,

This may be repeats but just to be sure -

Do you have a router? If so try bypassing it to see if that helps.

Is the Windows XP firewall off? Not just your installed ones but the one that comes with XP.

Have you opened Control Panel, Java, Browser - and unchecked Netscape and IE 6.0?

That damn connection thing!!!

Well, I tried to figure out all the recomendations listed here, and still no go, so out of sheer desperation I binned my entire Limewire program, (and I mean every single little piece in my computer with the Limewire name on it).
Then I started from scratch and downloaded the installer and installed like a Limewire virgin, and hey guess what? STILL NO CONNECTION!!!!
Any suggestions, purleeease...
I have 56k, i-Mac OS9.
Gawd bless ya.

What???
Would apprecaite if you could explain your situation better as I didn't fully understand your last mail...

GrandVizier July 16th, 2004 07:21 PM

I have XP and Deleting those files worked for me.

Mommosan July 17th, 2004 11:32 PM

STILL can't connect!!!!!!!!!

It appears I am not the only one who can't connect. I have tried four times to do the 'delete .limewire' thing, to no avail. I click on 'connect,' it switches to 'disconnect' briefly, then back to 'connect.'

If I click on search (just for the heck of it), it says I am not connected to the network.

I have cable.

I purchased Limewire Pro once, and can only download the 'free' one, and that is unsuccessful as well in connecting.

Is ANY programmer going to address this issue and fix it????

Please post a solution.

David Bethell July 18th, 2004 04:52 PM

Same old same old

I seem to have the very same problems as you, so do some of my friends, and ofcourse many on this message board.
Does anyone from Limewire actually read these threads or are we all just wasting our time? I guess they have enough customers not to give too much thought to us stragglers! Yawn!
Good luck anyway...

Mommosan July 18th, 2004 05:12 PM

Since I'm a Limewire Pro subscriber....

... I actually sent an email via their 'contact' email (service@limewire.com), since I didn't know if they actuall read these message boards either.

I don't know if they will even respond, but they're supposed to for Pro subscribers. Perhaps if enough 'Pro' subscribers send an email to:

SERVICE@LIMEWIRE.COM

they might actually try harder.

DJ-SpaceMan July 19th, 2004 06:42 AM

it didnt worked to me, i have win XP
allthough i have an another comp where it does work, so whats the prob?

its just saying in the beginning connecting, and then disconnected again and again

DJ-SpaceMan July 19th, 2004 07:15 AM

never mind, ive fixed it myself

Norm July 19th, 2004 07:21 AM

DJ-SpaceMan,

Why don't you share what you did to fix it. You might help someone else.

Norm

DJ-SpaceMan July 19th, 2004 08:06 AM

well, got a router, that wasnt the problem, got some kind of northon firewall, ive just disabled that one, just figured that out, so it wasnt really somethin special though

kidrev July 29th, 2004 06:15 PM

step by step SOS!

I guess I need someone to "lead me by the hand" through this! Frustrating indeed. I am running XP and have not been able to connect at all. I do NOT use zonealarm and the xp firewall is not enabled.

I tried to delete the user file C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire as suggested by someone in the forum, but cannot locate this file. Via "search" all I can find is .limewire Suggestions?

They also said preferences would then need to be reset. Where is this accomplished?

Any other suggestions????

Mommosan July 29th, 2004 06:37 PM

You're wasting your breath...

... or rather, your keystrokes! It appears that there are no LimeWire techies interested in our problems who bother to read anything in this forum. So, it's just us frustrated, confused, Limewire users talking to ourselves... and the wall.

I even emailed them directly on their website, saying that I was a pro user. and they said their tech support was good for only six months (my program was a year old), and that I would have to buy the NEW pro version in order to get tech support again.

I responded saying I wouldn't mind paying that small sum, but wanted to know if they would guarantee it would work. They never bothered to respond!

Looks like the FORUM is just a gripe session amongst us grumblers.

Norm July 29th, 2004 08:33 PM

kidrev,

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java?

Norm

Mommosan July 30th, 2004 03:02 AM

No I have not. I'm afraid I don't know about uninstallation / installation of java. However, I will search for information on it... unless you can tell me how to do that. Is it a regular 'program' that I can uninstall in the "Add/Remove Programs" section?

I truly appreciate any help you can give me....

Norm July 30th, 2004 04:44 AM

Mommosan,

Here is something you might try first. Go to control panel, open the Java icon, select the browser tab and uncheck both IE and Netscape. Reboot and try Limewire.

If that doesn't work you can uninstall Java from the add/remove section.

You will have to go to http://java.com/en/index.jsp and download Java if you don't have a copy to reinstall.

Good luck,

Norm

Connection Problems

I am SO confused. The ONLY reason I have limewire is so I can download music. I paid $18 for a two year subscription to MyMusic and it's now worthless because I can not connect.

This is B*LLSH*T

I'm using Windows 98 at my work. Can anyone actually help me?

PLEASE!!!!!

bird August 9th, 2004 12:52 PM

This *kinda* worked!

I deleted the .limewire directory, and now I can connect - which I couldn't do before - but I still get a 'poor' connection, or booted out.

This really sucks that I pay for a service i can't use. May raise some he** until I get a refund yet....

bruceg August 11th, 2004 07:41 AM

can't *%$*@! connect

Tried your idea, but alas no go! it seems to attempt to connect but the quality doesn't rise above the first bar and then disconnects. i have tried everything including getting my IT guy to sit with me as we go through this thing and nothing is happening. what could be wrong? the server is set up to allow Gnutella through port 6346 and i have done everything asked of me in the setup of the program and through information gleaned from the website but to no avail. i feel like i should know what to do but must admit that it seems as though the program itself is at fault

KAREN92316 August 12th, 2004 06:08 PM

connecting

i have done everything that has been said with in this forum, but i must be missing something. i restored my system back to May and everything was fine. then i downloaded about 3 songs quit for the night and tried again the next day. when i try to connect it truies but immediately disconnects. i have checked all zone alarm files you recommended, all of the firewall connections and everything is ok. what am i doing wrong. help

Dennis Burnham August 14th, 2004 04:25 AM

I can't describe to you how many times I have deleted preferences and reinstalled even in a brand new user that didn't exist before.

The application consistently quits immediately after the user interface loads.

I keep sending the reports to your company any getting no answer. No solution would be different, but no answer is just LAME.

Norm August 14th, 2004 05:00 AM

Dennis Burnham,

When you say you keep sending reports "to your company" are you sending them to Limewire? You do realize this forum is a users group and not Limewire don't you?

If you have Limewire Pro and want to contact Limewire go here -

Whats this tips thing your talking about, and the auto connect thing? Tell me where to go. somebody please!

paratroopermedic August 18th, 2004 10:00 AM

Yes! I figured it out! I am so happy. I thank u Nazis for all the help. Bye!

gterrell August 18th, 2004 01:08 PM

Help a brother out

Can't figure this out. I am able to download some songs, then it will not connect. Seems to be something with shared files or a simple setting I have wrong. Where do I find the "preferences"
for limewire?

Lord of the Rings August 18th, 2004 01:20 PM

That depends upon whether you mean the Pefs file or the Prefs window/control panel. The prefs file can be found in the prefs folder labelled .limewire (u might be able to search for it.) You haven't told anybody what comoputer you're using (it makes a big diff!) For window go to lw menu Tools-Options: & here are all your potential preference settings. For Mac OSX it's lw menu Limewire-Prefs. Did you read all the sticky's at the top of the section list of threads? Your answer could be in there! Also try other sections.

gterrell August 18th, 2004 02:02 PM

Well if it is not completely obviously my computer skills are
questionable to say the least. It's bad when I'm not even sure how to
answer some general questions.
The only reason I brought up the "preferences" is that in early someone
mentioned altering the "preferences" of limewire. This is what I can
tell you. Windows XP,
Toshiba, about a year old.....I know that is not much. I read that I
might need to change the setting on the bug report.....I did find that
under Option....thank you. Now I just need to find the post that had
the instructions. I'd give a finger to get this to work.
thx

helbigtw August 20th, 2004 04:43 AM

So Limewire won't work on my puter either. I'm so confused. My roomate is connecting on port 6346 just fine and I cant connect at all. I called my school and they told me they are blocking all ports to stop people from using limewire because it is interfering with the bandwidth. But he had no explanation as to how my roomies puter can connect. So whats up? I've done every trick told in these threads.

Lord of the Rings August 23rd, 2004 11:33 PM

For firewall issues make sure you see http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
Another alternative is to try the bete LW 4.1.4, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27366 for info & link to dwnld site.

helbigtw August 24th, 2004 03:48 AM

You don't seem to understand. We have done all that. It does not work. You all need to come up with a fix for this firewall problem.

Why don't u ask your roommate & tell us how he did it? You haven't told us anything about your setup. See this. If u want us to work it thru with u, write down every single detail about your settings & your roommates. 'If' you've read all the suggestions & related threads, then you can obviously tell us what your "Recieved incoming this session" report said. You are obviously behind a firewall. Keep in mind there's not only your school's firewall but also your os (presumably xp), will most likely have its own firewall. Not only that but Norton products can also interfere with connections. Give us all the details u possibly can. It's difficult to solve a puzzle if u don't have any pieces of it.

helbigtw August 24th, 2004 07:50 PM

I have a Dell 4100. 512 MB ram, XP home, no sp2. LAN is how we connect. Under network lan properties i have selected file and printer sharing, as well as checking the other boxes. I do not have norton. I have zonealarm, but turned it off. 6346 is the port limewire is using. I have read all threads, and tried all tricks including various versions of limewire, beta included. I am very knowlegeable of networks, and computers. I have come to the conclusion that there is the school firewall interfering somehow. I hope i'm wrong. The bug report says false which means the problem is the firewall. ok theres my info.

murasame August 24th, 2004 10:45 PM

Oh my Gawd!! How many pages are in this thing?!!

Anyway, did you ask your rommie about his setup (if he won't tell you or says he doesn't know, sneak up to his puter and get the info yourself: don't let him hog all the fun)

bek_flynn August 25th, 2004 07:05 PM

didn't work

I still have a "poor" connection and I'm unable to download.

helbigtw August 26th, 2004 04:03 AM

I'm not going to snoop on my roomates computer, i dont think he wants me going through his computer, and i dont blame him. He says that he just has it default settings.

murasame August 26th, 2004 04:03 AM

Yo bek, you did connect if it says Poor. Now your problem is all about using your connection to download. Go check the sticky thread about maximizing download success and leave LW on for awhile: it may take a little time for it to establish a stable connection to the network.

murasame August 26th, 2004 04:21 AM

Hey helbigtw, I'm guessing since you're knowledgable about nets and stuff that you've disabled/configured XP's firewall, right? Well, if it so then it's possible that either:
-Your roommate is a nasty hacker that has found a way to succesfully go through the firewall

or

-The firewall is, for some weird reason, configured to allow only your friend's computer to have FTP connections (don't laugh: it is possible)

my roomate knows very very little about computers. his port is default, xp firewall is on, and it even works. his computer is a pc, with windows xp...limewire is set up for default settings on his puter..i dont understand how his limewire would work....i've checked my errors on limewire, and it does say that a firewall is my cause.

murasame September 3rd, 2004 10:38 PM

Well, if you say that LW is using the default port at you roomates, then it must also be 6346. Just in case go up to hist comp and check it out. Oh, and does your roomate have SP2 too? I heard that SP2 can cause a lot of connection probs.
