If it doesn't show up, see Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)
But LW MUST be ClOSED at that time. :)

Yes, that's true. I forgot to say that you have to UNHIDE your hidden folders. So sorry! :)

First, the "delete-the-pref-folder" advice did nothing for me.

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

OMG!!! Skyliner!! You are amazing!! ahahah I have been trying to get my LW to work now for almost 7 hours!!!! And I've read almost all of the posts leading up to page 98 and NOTHING helped until your post (#1461)!!! All I did was go to the first link that you have in your sig and was planning on going through everything that is on that page but all I needed to do was just replace my gnutella.net file!!!!!! Thanks sooo much!!! And a little advice to everyone...try one of those things that is listed on Skyliners first link. Also, I know one other time when LW wasn't working for me the un-checking the tips pop up thing worked :)

Thanks so much, this worked for me! :super:

BUT, at least on my XP machine, the above path is a bit off- for me the Limewire folder was in C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/Application Data. Sorry if this has already been noted.

I ended up deleting closing Limewire, deleting it AND the folder and re-installing Limewire. Now I'm a downloading fool! Thanks for the tip!!

Hi,
I am having trouble, not opening limewire, but downloading. The note that pops up says that I am connected but not fully connected. I have deleted limewire completely and re-instated but still no joy. The five lines on the bottom of the screen are brown but on my other laptop they show green?????
What do you think?

mewant2play June 2nd, 2008 09:56 AM

Can't connect!?! Serious Help Needed!?!

I had LW basic and one day I recieved a message stating that there were fony messages and I thought that is was a false message but it looked up to date so I did what it said and that was to install a lower version of LW basic. After doing so I haven't been able to connect, it stays at one bar and behind a firewall. I then upgraded to LW Pro thinking it would turn out for the best but it still does the same, it stays at one bar and behind a firewall. Before I was able to conect but ever since that day I haven't been able to. I need serious help!?!

I should have made step 1 more clear - you need to make sure LimeWire is totally shutdown before attempting this fix.

Thanks!

done that sir. not working on vista:(

I believe it is yes. If LW was not compatible you wouldn't even be able to open the program. If you can't connect then it must be a different reason. What we need to help you is this: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) :) (we can't help without those details.) ;)

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

I did a search folder for limewire and got about thirty files. which ones do i need and which ones do i delete? I just upgraded to pro because i could -n't connect and now i still cant.:blink:I also tried to stop the auto start and tips off but that won't help. I also turned off my fire wall still won't work

SpitzerOne June 10th, 2008 01:36 PM

I tried the fix and it didn't work. It just re-makes the folder when you restart LimeWire. I cannot get a connection at all. I disabled the firewall and still have had no luck.

Please!! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I am amazed despite how many times this link gets flashed before people's eyes, they ignore it: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link), as we can't help much without these details (speaking generally.)

Windows 98 is starting to become limited. The newest version Java is no longer supported for 98.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) or for VISTA see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

If you started using LW after March 2006 then the preferences folder will be called Limewire, _ not .limewire

The versions of LW before 4.10 had their preferences folder called .limewire & those users who updated would still have the folder with same name unless they deleted their preferences folder at some point after this. ;)
