jesse14 please tell us your router brand & model. This might be the issue. Most high speed routers have internal firewalls called NAT. It's a type of firewall. Those (most) routers/modems that have UPnP should be ok. |
echo2347 turn your XP firewall off (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box) Then configure your Norton firewall using this: *Configuring Norton Internet Security Your Linksys router should have a UPnP switch. Make sure it is enabled! After doing these things, open LW then do the port test again: Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ to see if anything has changed. DDrew571 you haven't provided us with enough details about your set up to work with. |
hello?? CAN NO BODY GIVE ME ANY HELP???? Any ideas would be great! |
Huh! Duh! |
When i click on limewire it cannot open why? |
Don't know but you can try these things suggested here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=42486 |
jesse14 we don't know anything about your set up so are we supposed to guess. |
it isnt a set-up i just wnat to see if you have any of those games cuz my limewire program does not work |
How do you log into your system administrator? |
hey Hey Lord Of the Rings, What would you like to know. I'll give you a list of everything i can think of that might help you to help me lol - I have Windows XP - I have a router and it says on it SMC7004VBR (barricade). I think it has an NAT firewall. I have no idea what that means, but some one here asked me about my router. - I have rogers Cable high speed internet i've tried uninstalling and re-installing LW and nothing helps. I've turned off ALL my firewalls and LW still says there is a firewall or router messing up my connection. UMM i made the Gnutella ports because thats what it says to do on the limewire site and that didn't help. If there is any more info you need please let me know! |
Still Can not connect i've tried everything, unless im missing something i've deleted the .limewire directory i've disabled all firewalls i've downloaded the 10 connection limit hack patch and changed it to100 i've added all the recommened ports i've deselected both tips and automatic connection i have a new dell inspiron 1200 with windows xp home sp 2 preloaded. I am using a wireless roueter, its not the isp because on a previous laptop which was a gateway with xp sp1 it connected with no problems i even tried shereza and get the same results. Please help, or point out something that im missing, thanks |
same promblems LOTR, I have the same problems. we just moved recently and now my limewire will not work. I deleted the .limewire directory, disabled my firewall (windows XP), looked at my ISP, cox communications website and saw that port 6346 was not blocked or filtered, went to my router at portforward.com (dlink 614) and allowed port 6346 viva both TCP and UDP and still no connection. Any help will be great. Thanks LOTR |

When you did the port forwarding, did you initially set up a static ip? This is probably the most important step. Otherwise after the next time you connect to the net, if you still have a dynamic ip, it will change & your port forwarding won't have worked. After doing the port forwarding, test it here: Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? |
after finding my way around these forums and reading, I am fully convinced there is a bug in this new version. I connect but my downloads quit after I click on them and from what I've read here, users cant connect period. I'd like to make a plea to please stop upgrading this wonderful app. I have been using it for such a long time and would hate to give it up. I havenever had such problems with previous versions. I even did the delete fix and it still doesn;t connect. If you're gonna claim to be the 'fastest P2P app' I think you guys need to go back to the previous version. It worked like a charm. :( |
jesse14 if your modem router has a UPnP switch then turn it on. Else you may need to do port forwarding. See http://cubeonline.warppipe.com/suppo...portforwarding & find a PDF which explains how to do it for your model. OR use these instructions: Port forwarding instructions for the SMC7004VBR The steps are: 1. Set up a Static ip. 2. Forward a port such as 6346. 3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) BTW I recently heard some bad things about Rogers isp re: p2p They may be filtering p2p. kingreni does your router have a UPnP switch? If yes then turn it on. Otherwise you may need to forward a port (open a port to allow LW access.) If you already did port forwarding, then you MUST use a different port to another computer. You can only forward a particular port for one comp. You'd need to use a different port no. if you wanted to do it for 2 comp's that are using Gnutella programs. Also configure your XP Firewall, see the link to instructions above. |
I have a static ip add. on my network connections a that is out of the start/end assisigned ones my router provides. |
Don't get confused with your internal address. See http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm about how to set up an external static ip. If you didn't do this initially, then you should delete your previous port forwarding & do it again AFTER setting up an external Static ip. |
I did first set up an static ip on my network connection (lan) then I went to my router and set up the port forward to that ip address. It was working just 2 weeks ago on the preious version. should I try to connect directly to the modem and see what happens? |

BTW what type of modem do you have? It's brand & model no. might help to know. Both your devices might use NAT. |
the cable modem is a Toshiba pcx1100, and and a d-link router 614+ |
when I connected directly to the cable modem it stated I had limited or no connectivity. I also tried that link (www3.lime...) and got nothing. Thanks for all of your help LOTR |
sponger707 what modem do you have? |
the cable modem is a Toshiba pcx1100, and and a d-link router 614+ |

Well you can double-check your method of port forwarding here: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm Oh I just remembered (I also use a D-Link but for mac), did you reboot the modem after your port forwarding? This is a must. Re: Toshiba, well I couldn't find anything specific. Just (a) http://www.cablemodemhelp.com/pcx1000.htm & (b) http://forums.modemhelp.net/viewtopic.php?p=12872 |

reboot you mean just unplug then wait 5sec and replug again? |
No, well I suspect your modem softw has the same options. After port forwarding, you need to go to the Tools>Miscellaneous section & you'll see an option for Save & Reboot. It's a soft boot. On my router it says quote: "Settings need to be saved to Flash and the system needs to be rebooted for changes to take effect." & there's a button there for this purpose. |
connection issue hi i'm a potential new user if i can ever get connected, i tried the fix other xp users are having success with to no avail however i do keep getting the firewall detected logo even tough i'm pretty sure its configured ok any suggestions? |
I also get the firewalled logo (brick wall with the world behind). I have the windows firewall disable and no other firewall (zonealarm etc..) beside avast anti virus. |
Worked thanks |
Hi folks, I'm using os x 10.3.9 and xp sp2 on a windows domain with a proxy. The fact is that I can connect LW with xp but can't connect using os x 10.3.9. I'm really disappointed about the fact that LW on my os x 10.3.9 can't connect. I went to LW preferences and set proxy to the proxy server IP but nothing change. Can anybody help !! Thanks ftapsoba |
Starting Connection? I keep reading about how everyone has "connection lights" and how it turns red and green and whatnot. All I have are 5 bars, the smallest is green and the rest are red, and it reads "Starting Connection". I figured it may just take a while to connect, so I kept it running overnight to see if that would do the trick, but alas, it did not. So I've tried deleting the .limewire file from my Documents & Settings folder, and restarting. Didn't work. I've tried the whole "don't automatically connect" and restart. Didn't work. I've reinstalled quite a few times [4, to be exact] and it never does anything different than "Starting Connection". My best friends uses LW and gives it rave reviews, so I just want to be able to enjoy it as much as she does. Please help me!! If anyone has advice, please either respond here or email me the advice to aww__sugar@hotmail.com. Thanks so much. -Robyn |
Same here, LOTR seems to know his stuff but I just dont know what else to do. I used LW for 2 years and think its an awesomw prog but now I'm lost without it and would like to connect to LW again. |
Worked for us. Thank you for your instructions. The Gillette Family |
everlong_x we need more details about your set up. How are you set up exactly? How are the comp's networked? What modem/router devices do you use? Are you trying to run multiple LW's or p2p sharing programs simultaneously? What type of connection do you have & what's the official line speed? Please supply as many details as possible. Also see the list of questions I generally ask people to answer. ;) |
Actually, I found the problem. I was trying to add Gnutella to my old firewall server. But after finding my current one and adding the IP address of Gnutella to the "Allow" list, it's working great. Thank you for the advice you've given that led me to go searching around more. You are an angel. -Robyn |
Will deleting Limewire delete all of your songs? Where did you go to add Gnutella to your IP adress everlong_x??? How did you get there??? |
lllllllllllllllllllllll |
i updated to 4.9.23 and now i cant connect, it says firewall detected. ive done all port tests, they were successful, disabled all of the firewalls, made all the exceptions, gnutella, upnp, ect. ect. why all of a sudden wont it let me connect??? nothing is working. |
are you SURE you cant connect? even though a firewall has been detected, you may still connect to the network as a leaf. what does the connection meter say? and what color is it? and how long do you let it connect? have you tried port forwarding your router and setting the manual port forward in advanced options? have you tried different ports to see if anything like your isp maybe filtering or throttling p2p traffic? a vague statement like "nothing is working" doesnt give us much to work with since there is millions of other people able to use the software rather well. |
i let it set there for like 5 mins, it stays red, keeps popping up that i have no connection or a firewall is enabled. i havent done port forwarding or anything. i just dont understand why yesterday it worked fine and now upgrade and have to go through all these problems. ive never had to add any ports or anything the last times ive updated limewire, just this time it seems unwilling to cooperate. thanks for the help |
try changing java from 1.5 to 1.42 LW didn't connect with 1.5 installed but it did with 1.42 to download 1.42 go here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html |
just changed java from 1.5 to 1.4 and it still wont connect, still says i have a firewall enabled. |
garnettrules21 it's difficult to try to guess your problem if you don't supply any details about your set up. Check back in the thread to see what type of information we need. |
lastest setup on everything other than java since i just changed it, windows xp, cable one internet, sp2, 130 gb, 512 ram, all firewalls disabled, added gnutella both ports, made sure lime wire gnutella were in exceptions. nothing on my cpu has changed except for the update of limewire. |
So you had LW before & it was working? If yes, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Otherwise if this is your 1st use of LW, can you tell us your connection devices brand & model no.'s. Who is your ISP provider? Did you do this test? Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Another option is to change the port LW uses. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls, & change the listening port from 6346 to another like these 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 80, 20282, 10000, 443, 40475. Ports can be blocked due to ISP blocking, connection devices, etc. Different solutions to each. |
i deleted my preferences folder and restarted limewire, went through everything and sure enough that seems to have fixed it. thank you very much for your help |
Connection Failure Hi I have tried deleted the preferences folder and purger.jar with no luck. PowerMac G3 (Sonnet G4 1 GHz processer upgrade), OSX 10.3.9. I am on a wireless home network. Thanks Kalo |
kalo it sounds like it might be your wireless set up that's causing an issue. If it doesn't utilise UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) which allows LW to communicate directly with the device to open a port, then you may need to manually forward (open) a port for LW. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Can you tell us the brand & model no.'s of your connection devices? ie: each one. Where are you trying to connect from (home, work, school, etc.)? Are you on a shared connection with other computers? |
