I'm not too sure what you have tried ... as this thread contains rather too many posts:) Nor do you say anything about your copmputer java operating system etc etc. Your post gives us nothing to go on. Why did you upgrade to pro? Or did you go straight to pro, in which case how much did you pay for it and where did you get it from? |
connection prob i have an hp pavillion zd8000, i use windows xp with service pack 2. i have a university isp. i dont know what else i can tell u that u need to kno. just let me kno anything else that i can give u to help w/ my problem. i upgraded to limewire pro because it says it has "turbo-charged" downloads, i downloaded it directly from the limewire website and paid about $19. did i get ripped off or is this the correct version? |
Many apologies for the lack of reply. This thread has got far too long and should be gently laid to rest!:) I'm not quite sure, as I said, what you HAVE tried. There is often a problem with university and school isps as they are not generally happy about p2p usage and tend to try to stop it. I wonder if this might be giving you a problem. |
hey, I'm running os x and i can't connect. I tried the fixes that have already been posted but no luck. I can surf internet and download stuff via safari but so far I haven't been able to get a filesharing program working. please help me... |
Sydney N said ' but so far I haven't been able to get a filesharing program working" This does not give us a lot to go on... I do wonder if possibly your isp is trying to stop it's customers, or some of them from filesharing, .....but unless you can tell us some information about your set up, virus protection, firewalls, exactly what problems you have had, and with which applications and any other details that might be relevant including who your isp, we are a little in the dark. If you could start a new thread with these details, it might be a good idea, since some of us have seen enough of this thread and usually bypass it! :) |
Delete? None of your fixes work!!! Maybe part time but there is something seriously wrong with your web site! |
can't stay connected! I've read all the suggestions and tried every one of them and still Limewire disconnects after loading. I'm using OSX.4.3, I,ve deleted the Limewire preferences file, checked to see that my firevault is not active, unchecked the tips at start-up window and as soon as I try to get to preferences, Limewire quits. I'm not a tech person, so complicated fixes will not work for me. Can't somebody help me? |
puzzled i am trying to follow your instructions to see if this solve my connection problem but i maybe a little stupid because when i follow the directions to the file i do not see it 1 i click on my computer icon 2 i click on c:\ drive icon 3 i click on documents and settings icon 4 i click on my username in the window that opens it does not display the mentioned file icon sohave i made a mistake or found the reason for my problems any advice is much appreciated . xp standard edition limewire 4.9.37 thanx david |
I have not been able to connect at all. I tried the things that were advised and it has done no good with Windows XP. I am very frustrated! |
spcyg2003 please answer the questions re: your setup asked earler in the thread (a page or 2 earlier) or otherwise we can't help you. ie: we don't have a clue what might be your problem! |
Lord of the Rings, Please tell me exactly what questions you are referring to. I've had LW over a year and never had problems like this. I haven't used it for a couple of weeks and today I was not able to connect & kept getting an error message saying I had no internet connection. I deleted the directory as recommended and it has done no good. |
The LOTR is referring to the questions below but if LimeWire stooped working all of the sudden there is a good chance your ISP has started blocking P2P networks. Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal) 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. * Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml 12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False 13. Do a speed test post the results here. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ |

Please help! I was a good girl and answered all of the questions to the best of my ability... Could my school be blocking my access to Limewire? :;crosses fingers:: please say no.... :p I live in apartments owned by the University that I attend, and connect to the internet through... well... the wall... I'm semi computer illiterate... please help!!! 1. OS version? WindowsXP 2. What firewalls you have? Windows 3. How much ram? 512 4. Hard Disk space available? 27.5GB 5. Connection type? Where are you trying to connect from? school 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? LW: 4.9.37; Java: 1.5.0_05 9. Who is your ISP provider? No clue... 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No. 11. Do this simple test for us. What happens when you go there? It said, "Your test worked!" :) * Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access ? Yes!! 12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? False. :( 13. Other ways to find out are to try different ports to connect through (though it appears port 6346 isn't being blocked): 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 20282, 22817, 443, 34599, 40475. ie: Go to LW's menu bar Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port from 6346 to one of the above. I'm not sure but you may need to relaunch LW. Or at least apply it, go to menu bar, Select File>disconnect, wait a minute, then File>Connect. Give each one at least 15 mins to attempt to connect. Another alternative is to try another gnutella client. eg: Bearshare lite, Phex, etc. |
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? Windows 3. How much ram? 1.00 GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 53.2 GB 5. Connection type? What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.9.37 LW 1.5.0_04 Java 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal) Cox 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No 11. Do this simple test for us. Unfortunately Cox is one of the ISP known to block or filter P2P networks. The link below might be of help. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712 |
I finally got connected by opening up the ports listed in one of the forums! However, NOW all the music downloads are coming up with the message "need more sources" and the LW icon on the top right of the screen doesn't move. What do I do now????? |
Try highlighting the files one at a time and click resume that should start a search for the file if LimeWire can find any sources it should start downloading. Only do 1 or 2 at a time if you do to many at once it could cause your connection to become unstable |
Things are finally working! thanks. |
Thanks for letting us know |
1 windows xp he 2 windows 3 512 4 61gig left 80 total 5 quest dsl 256k lan 6 quest dsl modem with wireless gateway gt701-wg 7 home 8 (4.9.37 for limewire) (2.0 for java) 9 qwest 10 yes the test worked is it supposed to say "port 6346 check to see if blocked" 11 yes i configured my firewall to allow full access to limewire 12 its false 13 214kbps for the download 213kbps for the upload i hope this gives you all you need to know... |
Test #10 says your port is blocked it is probably your wireless router. The link below is the page you need to start on for your router you will need to setup a static IP address first just follow the instructions. http://portforward.com/english/route...y/Limewire.htm If you get confused you can go to the link below it will start you at the beginning. http://portforward.com/default.htm |
airport express/ extreme Could the reason I can't connect to Limewire have anything to do with the fact that I am connected through Airport Extreme and Airport Express routers? I've done everything else thats been suggested and nothing seems to correct the problem. Any thoughts? |

Hey im not shure if this will wurk, but i cant even install because limewire disconnects my internet as install it, i am currently running Windows XP And have a wireless Router and Wireless Connection, it works hardware now what is da deal with the wirelesss, why wont it work and is there any patches or solutions u have for this problem |

2. Get the "Offline" installer version of LW. 3. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) BTW most wireless routers/modems have NAT firewalls. So unless you have UPnP abilities you may need to manually port forward. |

I have turned off the firewall and currently it is still disconnecting me from my network, what is wrong with it? Also what do you mean by port forward? |

The link I gave above "did" once upon a time have instructions for airport configuring. But unfortunately the owner of the site decided to take it off a few weeks ago. In answer to my query why, he said he was just about to set up a mac & wanted to check the instructions for himself to verify them rather than the donated ones. But still, the link hasn't returned as fast as he suggested it would. |
connection failure Sorry but the fix didn't work on Mac OS 10.4.2 :( Things worked well until 2 days ago (11/14/05). ISP (SCPWildblue [satellite ISP]) sez they "don't support Limewire" but claim they haven't done anything differently! Since I posted this, I called and talked to a senior tech. They do NOT block or filter Limewire. |
connection problem some one help! I am having connection problem! winxp home, linksys router for wireless internet connection, 4.9.37 pro, norton personal internet security are my system info! I am getting error message stating that limewire cannot find an inernet connection or firewall is stopping it. I have tried everything from the Limewire website FAQ. Still does not work. Asked for assistance from the tech support for last three days but no answer!!! Paid $ to buy this software but Limewire is offering no help!!! What a rip off!!!! |
wahmed said " Paid $ to buy this software but Limewire is offering no help" How many $$$$$? .. |
what do i need to do to connect? Any suggestions! |
how many $$$$? believe me, there is a reason for asking. |
$20.00 for a download! |
Here's the reason I asked. Limewire pro costs $18.88 and is only available from www.limewire.com. Basic Limewire is also available there at no charge. If you payed any other amount you have bought a scam version of Limewire, you cannot get support from Limewire, and it is quite possible that your version has been doctored in some way. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28751 is a little bit of information about scam sites |
I meant $18.88. LW acknowledges my email with a reply and I bought the software directly from their webpage. Plus, I used to have basic but I had broadband minus wireless router and that was about a year ago. |
my limewire always says busy host when i try 2 dwnload. can someone help me? |
Busy host means that the other person is busy ... has no upload slots available. Re-search the file topic at various intervals can help to find more sources. People go on/offline of the network all the time so 30 mins later you may find more sources. Or even 5 mins later. wahmed, Pro offers free updates & pro support for up to 6 months after purchase. After that your name will drop off their database. If you re-purchase Pro within a (limited) short time after 6 mths you get a discount. But if you didn't purchase it from the official site then your name won't be on their database in the 1st place. |
People! I used to have free lime wire and I had broadband connection minus my current wireless router. It worked great! Now, after a year I purchased the LW pro for $18.88 and I can't even connect! Says that I have no internet connection or it is behind a firewall. LW tech support is very slow in responding and is giving me some generic answer about it is not possible for them to know....... make sure Java and LW is excluded from the firewall. I have done all that but no luck! I have Norton firewall! LW is telling me to look at the manual for my Firewall. What? Is any one out there with my situation? Wireless internet connection and Norton and unable to connect! Not one time. Please, help. |
Norton & XP's firewall don't work well together. Disable XP's firewall: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. Then *Configuring Norton Internet Security |
just maby... hello, i have just siged up for this fourm to ask a ?, i have read every page and have tried every fix, but nothing will work, i am using XP home edition and my isp is AOL, i have just bought this PC frome Dell, nice flat LCD screen..the works..yea...well anyway i have 2 ideas what might be the problem on my PC 1). could a proxy be the problem? becuz i have tried to play Empire Earth II (wich i have bought this PC, just for this 1 game) online, i even opend up ports to allow it, also when i tried to DL an activeX control from AOL, my pc dident do squat, it was like a retarted 24 yearold trying to pout a square into a round hole, it kept trying to get thru but nothing,, i thought it was my anti-virius, nope it was MicroTrend PC Cillin internet security, i replaced that with McAfee internet security, nope, disabeling my firewall, allowing exceptions, all that, when i came across a post in this thred, sombuddy said to download a new version of JAVA, well i tried, and a window poped up saying that a proxy was blocking somthing!!! can this be it 2). i am using AOL secutiry version, WITCH when you try to open its prefrences in the network dir. no advanced button shows up and there is no boxes to place allowed port#'s in, o wait.. make that 3). i disabled my firewall not to long ago and ran LW, but the firewall status was detected, now i tried to go and find if McAfee had one in its prefrences, but there is nothing at all to do with firewalls in my version of McAfee.....can anyone use my information for a soloutin? |
also i have downloaded BS, but that is also unable to connect:( |
Can't connect I have downloaded the software, but it wont even open when I click on the icon. It won't even open the program.I keep getting an error that says "Limewire encountered a problem and needs to close" Then it ask if I want to report the error. Can anyone help?? |
Re: for those who can't connect this hasn't worked for me and neither has using the jar link. i am still unable to connect. Quote:
|
can't connect NG! Tried this, along with every other suggestion I've gotten on this Forum and still can't connect. In fact, after deleting the Limewire preferences, all I get is the Limewire Pro logo. Before, I was able to download entirely before I got the "Can't Connect" message. Things are going from bad to worse, and Limewire service ddoes not reply at all! Jeez! |
Re: just maby... Quote:
As for Proxy, no it may or may not be affecting things. I guess it depends. Some proxies are very good, some not so. Some don't work for p2p. AFAIK you need to try many proxies before you find one that works with p2p sharing. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? nick3849 I would recommend re-installing LW (use offline version), Java & deleting your LW preferences (if you have any.) If you're a windows user then see Fixes for Limewire steps 1 & 2. laddergal2 can you give us some more details about your set up. Earlier in this thread a page or few back a list of questions will be listed that helps us determine what your problem might be. I just deleted a large no. of pm's but remember seeing one of yours. I can't recall your set up or exact problems. Can you reiterate. |
