need help!

i have read through this forum and tried every tip that i could find. im using windows xp and i dont mean to repeat what has already been said but i was downloading fine from limewire and suddenly it wouldn't work anymore. I have tried deleting the .limewire file and i disabled tips and i changed to manual connection. i also tried switching off all firewalls but yet limewire still is detecting one blocking the connection. my firewall setting are definitely set to allow limewire to function. i would be very grateful if anyone out there can help! when it did work for me, i loved this site and really want to get it back up running again! really dont want to let ludite tendancies take over with me!
thanks in advance!

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Double check your firewall (only run one at a time), there's a link here
Connection problems? Check here first!
Do the port test & see what result you get (link in thread)

linners May 29th, 2006 11:34 AM

I think that Clearwire is your problem

You could try changing ports (see my second link) but I'm not sure that it'll do much good.

Wilditalian June 1st, 2006 04:24 PM

Well, here it goes.

I've been a limewire user for years, and i've been keeping up with the versions (currently with 4.10.9.) and recently i've come across a cripling problem. My limewire, out of nowhere, pulled a "fatal error" that had something to do with my version of java, which i fixed. That was about a month ago, and since then i havn't been able to connect. It remains on "you are currently connecting to the network", yet it is still downloading a movie i started downloading before this whole fiasco (at up to 50kbps!). I tried everything i could think of, and wound up here.

Here are some of my details:
Windows xp home edition sp2
Limewire 4.10.9
I tried the internet test and it worked just fine.
The bug report said "False"
I have cogeco high speed internet
When i view the "direct connect" tab under search, it says my computer is behind a firewall or router.
My connection status is "leaf" and i have no hosts
I work from a wireless network.

I love limewire, and i would greatly appreciate any sort of help.
And help the guy above me as well!

Good luck everyone,
Jake.

katuz June 22nd, 2006 01:11 AM

Hey,
Connection status: Leaf
Please help,
Katuz

birdy June 22nd, 2006 02:04 AM

Connecting as a leaf's fine:D
LW chooses it's ultrapeers, you can't force yourself to be one. To be an u/p you must not be firewalled, have a reasonably fast connection & high uptime. You'll also need to make sure that 'disable ultrapeer capabilities' is not ticked (tools > options > speed).

queen_v June 27th, 2006 08:28 AM

HHEELLPPP!!! my LW is able to connect but only at 1 bar. i can not search or download. whats wrong?

Lord of the Rings June 27th, 2006 08:43 AM

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
13. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Lord_Draik June 27th, 2006 08:41 PM

Thank you thank you thank you man,
I've been tring to fix it for a week,
This really helped me out alot, thank you.

Lord_Draik June 27th, 2006 09:05 PM

But I just got a problem,
I have an ADSL Connection, using Linksys (WAG54GS)
The speed is 512Kb/sec,
The problem is:
I have this fast connection, yet when I download using lime wire,
it only downloads at 1Kb/sec & most of the time at less speed!!
I just deleted my properties, so that's not it,
& the download is set to unlimited.

Please Help

AaronWalkhouse July 28th, 2006 11:29 AM

Your best option is to switch to another ISP, preferably one that doesn't
censor their customers access or uses AT&T (which routinely eavesdrops
on everybody illegally) for it's backbone networking. Your ISP does both.

In your neighborhood I wouldn't trust any internet provider without checking
their reputation and history at Broadbandreports.com carefully. Many of them
use AT&T without disclosing that to their customers.

AaronWalkhouse July 28th, 2006 11:30 AM

By the way. What is the name of that ISP?

MontyMole July 30th, 2006 07:23 AM

Hi.
I have problem wit connection in last three days. Before my LW worked just fine, without any problems. Can you tell me what is wrong. I've tried nearly all tips from FAQ's, help, and this forum. Nothing helped.

9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? Duga - http://duga*********/
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No. Well, I'm connected to my ISP over LAN cable, so I don't know details.

AaronWalkhouse July 30th, 2006 07:49 AM

duga- net.com appears to be a small ISP in Serbia. the "- n e t . c o m" is
automatically filtered out because it often appears in spam posts.

MontyMole July 30th, 2006 09:08 AM

Yes. You're right. That Duga is my ISP.
I'm sorry, I didn't know a part about "- n e t . c o m".

I can't connect either. I have used Limewire for awhile but about 3 weeks ago, Limewire quit working for me. It will only connect to one bar, so I can't search or download anything. I've tried to add Gnutella to my firewall list thing, but it doesn't help. Can anyone help me?!

Please do not double post about the same problem of yours.
Have you tried the suggestions in this thread (all of them) and what results did you get??

I have just downloaded limewire pro and have been unable to conect at all. I have sat here, read every post, tried every scenario and to no avail. Due to the obvious lack of knowledge on this problem, I just want to know how to get credited back the money i have paid. This is ridiculous.

In the example above it is "false" Does it mean YOUR connection also has a problem? What does the "True/False" really imply?

figment222 September 5th, 2006 06:43 AM

HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO UPGRADE FROM A LIMEWIRE GURU, TO A LIMEWIRE HERO!!!!!!!!

None of this has worked for me. I've deleted the stupid (.limewire) folder twice now. I even did the silly little fix of disabling the tip of the day box, with no effect, whatsoever. I am still unable to connect. NOBODY seems to know why.

The only thing that I can think of, is trying to (unsuccessfully) connect my laptop (which I'm having problems with) to my desktop through an Ad-Hoc network, using only a 2-way network cable. My friend is a networking guy, and tried to help me out, but he was stumped. I can't recall everything we did, but I know we were messing around with IP addresses, and subnets. I am a very computer literate person, but do not attempt to savvy myself as anything close to a networking guru.

The other thing, is that I connect through my office building. I know they have a firewall, so It doesn't matter if I turn mine off. The brick wall is, and was, always there. When I used to connect, I always had my windows firewall on, as well. However, I have spoken to my IT guy, and confirmed that his settings are no different than the settings he had, when my system was connecting to the Limewire network properly. It used to work like a charm, but now it doesn't...and it is frustrating.

I tried a lot of those links that guy mentioned at the top of the connection problem forum, and even did the TCP/UDP port thing he recommended. Nothing is working.

-I am currently running Windows XP Pro, Svc. pack 2.
-Limewire version: 4.12.6
-Java Version: 1.5.0_06
-My connection is through an internal ethernet port using an "Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection" Device.
-I am using the windows firewall. I also have PC-Cillin, but it is a piece of crap, and I don't know why I haven't just deleted the damn thing, but I have completely disabled it.
Now, though I connect through my office, where all the other computers are part of a domain....I am NOT part of the domain. We all use a proxy address to connect. We are all sharing a connection through a server. The server holds the connection, and basically splits it out, to the other computers. I have not had any trouble with connecting to the internet, since we tried to connect to my desktop, but I have not been able to get into limewire, (or party poker, hahaha, but that's a good thing). Could this have anything to do with my default gateway or DNS server settings???

thanks for your help. Hopefully, we can get this thing working.

lwirkk September 10th, 2006 04:01 PM

Hello to all! :)

My first POST.

I was with that problem, my problem was that a PC was a server with 2 net plates, and other PC with 1, and an internet for modem to cable, I called them in CROSS-OVER and I usually configured and using ANALOG-X I shared the internet and everything went well, but to play and to use limewire and emule he/she was not giving right, and after 2 days the problem was solved, then them configuration was in the following way.:

In the PC server with 2 net plates one with internet and the other called in way CROSS-OVER in second PC.
-OBS.: Two PC's are with WINXP SP2.

In the configuration of net plate in the control panel and later in connections, in the configuration of the net plate with internet, I went in TCP and later in properties I left as pattern that is usually already: TO OBTAIN ADDRESS OF IP AUTOMATICALLY.

In the net plate that is in PC 1 or PC Server:

TO USE FOLLOWING ADDRESS OF IP: Place the address of IP of PC Server, place here. (10.0.0.x - 192.168.0.x) where X=number any. Example: 192.168.0.1.
Use 1 for it is easier to know than PC SERVER will be 1.
In sub-net mask I placed as example 255.255.255.0, it can place other number not leaving this goal, but to work it really places 255.255.255.0 as used in this example. The rest leaves in white.
http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/9260/rededw0.png

In the net plate that is with PC Client or PC 2 will be like this:

TO USE FOLLOWING ADDRESS OF IP: Place the address of IP of PC Client, place here. (10.0.0.x - 192.168.0.x) where X=number any. Example: 192.168.0.2.
Use 2 for it is easier to know than PC CLIENT will be 2.
In sub-net mask I placed as example 255.255.255.0, it can place other number not leaving this goal, but to work it really places 255.255.255.0 as used in this example.
In GATEWAY default it places PC SERVER'S IP, in the case 192.168.0.1 if it goes I proceeded for the example.
In SERVER OF PREFERENTIAL DNS it places PC SERVER'S IP again. (192.168.0.1).
What remained ALTERNATIVE DNS, leave in white.

Now test entering in some internet page.

OBS.: In the configuration of connection of the "internet explorer" for instance in configuration of LAN uses the address PROXY for IP of the SERVER and it carries if the program be used ANALOG-X it uses the door 6588 and in the same page it places in the top option to DETECT CONFIGURATIONS AUTOMATICALLY.

In LIMEWIRE or EMULE you it will usually configure, but in preferences you in the option of PROXY leave how it is or then don't place PROXY, In LIMEWIRE also, don't place PROXY, leave without PROXY. Try to connect some of the programs and ready.

OBS.: In case it is in NET it doesn't disable PC SERVER'S firewall. Hackers love that.
To liberate the doors of the limewire or emulate for PC SERVER, go in the configurations of the plate of net of PC SERVER. Then it goes in ADVANCED, in option-firewall choice the plate of NET that shares internet with PC CLIENT, later click in ADVANCED, in the case of the example, there will be in the first option, 2 selection boxes with each net plate, mark the two, choose the one that he/she is sharing with PC CLIENT and click in CONFIGURATIONS, later add the door that LIMEWIRE uses for TCP and for UPD, make that with it also EMULE, add the doors that he uses. This in the shared plate.

OBS.: ANALOG-X forever active in PC server: In ANALOG-X put the IP of PC SERVER in exemple 192.168.0.1.
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1203/analogxkz6.png

Now the program brings an option of checking the safety, that is the button " Check if proxy i in Open Mode ". You should press this button in the program to see if it is everything ok. It will show up the screen below that means that is everything ok:
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7...oxysec1wc0.gif

In case you are with your connection proxy " open ", or be with risk of safety, he/she will appear the following screen:
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/3...oxysec2be1.gif

Basically what defines this status open to strange connections it is the field: Proxy Binding, that if it is DISABLE, it means that you are with a risk of safety.
If it is everything OK, in PC SERVER it will be like this:--> http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/9...xyserv0jh3.gif <--

After having made all this, test limewire or emule.

Thanx to all, I wait to have helped. :)

Larkin September 12th, 2006 06:41 PM

my connection never gets strong enough to where i can download anything, then evrytime i try a note pops up that im still trying to connect , why is that?

birdy September 13th, 2006 01:48 AM

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Have you configured your software firewall? Make sure to only use 1 firewall! You'll find a link for firewall config in the thread below, as well as lots of info about connection problems
Connection problems? Check here first!

Do the port test & see what result you get. Check out the info about enabling UPnP & port forwarding - you might have to use one or the other to configure your modem/router. If you're still stuck, post back with your details... the connection problems thread'll tell you what info we need:wink:

For previewing vidoe files (including clips) LW usually uses your default meadia player and not the integrated player in LW.
Maybe your default player has an codecs issue......
You could try to use a different media player such as the free VLC player with built-in codecs which can play almost all media files without problems. You can downlaod it from here:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
As a side note, to preview files with it you'll have to open the files directly from the Incomplete folder and not via the LW preview function.

Rather than disabling your firewall, make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall (remember, XP has it's own ) & that it's configured properly.

Read through the sticky below, it has a lot of tips & advice for solving connection problems
Connection problems? Check here first!

If you're stuck, post back with your system details (post #2 of the sticky shows the info we need).
