I know it seems redundant, and since there are so many writing about similar problems I don't know what thread to submit to. I have a problem going through my router, apparently, that I never had before. Had the same router for couple of years with no problem using Limewire, even through many successful upgrades and a firmware update. One day it worked the next it didn't. I have tried deleting the limewire preferences file, I have set up Windows firewall with every port change I've tried, I have set up a static IP and port forwarding with several port changes, I have set up windows 2000 compatibility mode. I know it is the router, because when I connect directly through the computer modem I have no problem. I can use Limewire a block away at work, so I know it is not being blocked by my ISP. I know the Linksys has a history in these threads, but just can't figure out why the sudden change. Here's my specs, and thanks for any help.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)Windows XP Home - SP2
2. What firewalls you have?Windows XP only - Use Avast for virus
3. How much ram?512 M
4. Hard Disk space available? 40+G free out of 80G
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL Fiberoptics
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54G version 1.1 with latest Firmware
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? [COLOR="blue"******[/COLOR]
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Version 4.12.6 and Java 1.5.0_09
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? EATEL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I have a Dell laptop and TIVO that access the wireless router
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used Limewire for over 5 years, never had a problem until now even with this router
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

foolofthehill November 7th, 2006 10:55 PM

Two things you could try:
First,....delete the LW preference folder (the old one named " .limewire " and the new one named " LimeWire ":
Read here on how to delete these folders (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Afterwards reboot your computer.

Second....
Uninstall LW and all Java versions on your system. Reboot and then download the JRE offline installer of the newest Java version from here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Install it and reboot again, then reinstall LW.

gamy1193 November 9th, 2006 10:05 AM

I still got nuttin'

:sos: In my last post on Nov. 6 I failed to mention several things that I have tried, but I have deleted both the .limewire and Limewire pref folders, reloaded Limewire and upgraded Java after the problems occurred. I have no problem with any other program through the router, and I downloaded a network mapping trial software suggested somewhere in here. No luck on any of those steps.

Read foolofthehill's response, which I assumed was to Buffy, but not sure. I didn't do the reinstall and upgrade in that order, but Java didn't seem to be my problem.

P.S. My previous post did not record my answer, but I am connecting from home.

fireman413 November 18th, 2006 08:48 AM

Where do I find that limewire file?

Where do I find the C:// file you keep mentioning? I would like to try it out and see if it fixes my connection problem.

THanks:idea:

bongo1974 November 27th, 2006 09:38 AM

Don't know if this is old news (ain't trawling thru this thread to find out), but this is what fixed it for me - had tried all the other stuff, disabling autoconnect, deleting /.limewire etc., none of that worked. What I did:

- Tools
- Options
- Advanced
- Firewall Config
- select 'Do Nothing' (Router configuration)

Restart - Limewire will now work.

When restarted, go through the above steps and this time reselect 'Use UPnP'.

It continued to work after that.

Hope that helps some of you.

hamphork November 28th, 2006 03:20 AM

im using windows XP MCE that fix didnt work for me, though limewire sometimes connects upto the "good connection" level. but i still cant download anything

gamy1193 December 4th, 2006 07:32 AM

Didn't work for me either. Have tried everything I can find on this forum for months and still absolutely no progress in getting past my NAT firewall. Used to be able to physically bypass the router by connecting directly to ethernet cable, but last time I tried it would even connect that way. Pretty hopeless I'm beginning to see.

jimbo-ice January 10th, 2007 07:33 PM

Umm im haveing problems connecting and never tried this method, im on windows Xp, would please tell me hhow to do this step by step, trying to find out what to or where to go on my own would just cause me to give up, please help i been trying everything else, this is like my last option.

I just tried on my own and dont even know where to find the limewire pref folder thing, so yeah i need help. The main thing I dont understand is just last week limewire was working fine on my old computer which was a windows xp, but now it says a firewall is blocking the connection. I tried reconfiguring the firwewalls, turning them off, pretty much everything but it still says I cant connect.

lulu381 January 29th, 2007 04:59 AM

I was having trouble connecting so i deleted all my limewire dicectory, reinstalled & hey presto, I'm downloading as I'm writing this.
Thanks. ;)

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

Lord of the Rings January 30th, 2007 07:39 AM

When upgrading to LW Pro, it's often recommended to delete the LW prefs folder. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Also for Norton, it can be a bit fussy for new versions of programs & sometimes requires reconfiguration, see Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

yup did all of that...nothing happened..still 1 bar..loosing hope....

connection problems

Hi all,
I have tried everything suggested in this forum.

What DID work was checking my routers firewall.
If you have a 2wire wireless router/firewall, login to the "Firewall/Advanced Settings" menu and ensure that you have the "Outbound" controls for "All other protocols" and/or "IRC" checked.

This may be blocking the Limewire in/out ports.

Hope this helps.

Userman.

works but won't resume

Hi,

my limewire can connect now to the network after deleting this dir, but the files that were busy downloading don't resume. Any way to fix this?

Thx,
G.

yeatesgr March 14th, 2007 12:18 PM

I shall try the fix, but would like to point out that limewire works fine in the morning, becoming progressively slower as the day progresses, and completely stops downloading by late afternoon. My impression is that my ISP [Pipex] is blocking it.

I need help badly

I've been using LimeWire for years. I used to have LimeWire Pro (4.2.6). I rebooted my pc. I reinstalled everything and decided to install LimeWire 4.12.11. I suddenly can't connect. I have Windows XP, Belkin router and McAfee Internet Security. I already disabled ALL firewalls but LimeWire still shows I'm behind a firewall. I tried BearShare and it worked (and then uninstalled it again:)). I really wanted LimeWire to work coz I love it and I'm used to its settings... but if it doesn't work I would have to use BearShare instead.
Can someone please help me get LimeWire to work. Thanks!

marvlo March 15th, 2007 06:32 PM

What if my 'test page' worked (per previous note to check this page first for connection). there was no information or link to address if there seems to be some kind of communication- but there still is 'no connection' w/ Limewire.

RodsterOH73 March 23rd, 2007 03:05 PM

it worked!

I'm on XP and I had to search in a little bit further then the location you suggested, but I found the file and upon restarting Limewire after deleting said file it seems to be working fine again. An additional note I will add is that I had been able to connect on this system prviously. :xirokrotima:

It's a folder.

For LW versions 4.9.34 & later:

In Windows it's C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\LimeWire. It's hidden by default, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to see it.

Instructions for deleting the preferences folder are in points 2 & 3 of this sticky.

frogies_rock003 March 25th, 2007 01:18 PM

:o Hey, I know how you guys feel about this connection thing, I tried everything, including sdaswani's idea of deleting the limewire's directory. And when I say everything I mean everything. I attempted to manually port forward, but my isp (internet service provider) didn't like me tinkering with the connection settings and made me go back to default. I've readjusted my firewall, everything, and whatever I do it's always that one constant green bar with a brick wall in front of the globe. And the most frusterating thing is, Limewire used to work amazing. The only reason it doesn't now is I was forced to uninstall it while removing a worm from my pc. now when I re download it, everytime, it never connects. It's sooooo frusterating. And in case that "birdy" user desides they want to help me, I'll give all possible information. Please I'm desprate, if any of you can give me any more ideas it would greatly apprechiated! Thanks!
:bangh:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall (the one that came with it)
3. How much ram? 376 mb ram
4. Hard Disk space available? 1.66 GB on my (D) drive and 211 GB on my (:C) drive
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) dial up
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Agere Win Modem version 8.31.0.0, (I can't find a model number, the modem came with my computer
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House, but the connection is through the school board
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.11 (limewire) 1.5.0_11 (java)
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (hpedsb)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says your test worked than tells me the page is loaded leaving me on a white screen with "Your test Worked!" there in black letters. that's it.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no, I have my own personal client number
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. It's a new problem, like I said earlier, limewire never used to act up until I had to reinstall it from a worm
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Most definitely, with zero connection and one green bar at a constant.

Deum Hi
Start a new thread n post thease details.
System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.
