Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) & for Vista users see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html. Mac OSX users see Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX

If your problem is not a connection problem then you are posting in the wrong section. You should be posting in the Upload/Download problems section. These tips might help: 1. Problems with the search, __ 2. Hostiles List

I think its a problem in the actual LimeWire software, just my opinion though. I did a system restore and made it exactly the way it was before I upgraded to the newer version and it still doesnt work.

addam12 November 19th, 2007 01:49 AM

I have been using Limewire Version 4.12 for sometime and i recently reformatted my computer and now it won't connect. I've tried everything you suggested without any luck. I have tried to search for .limewire with hidden files checked and it doesn't exist. I've looked for it under documents and settings ect.. and it aint there. I uninstalled and reinstalled without luck. I'm using a fresh XP SP2 with all the Windows Updates. Maybe a new update is interfering? I don't have a Firewall besides the XP one and I disabled that but I still have a wall in front of my globe and under bugreport it is saying false. I'm puzzled.

addam12 November 19th, 2007 02:10 AM

Well I found this and it worked for me.

1.get file gnutella.zip from here (right click - save target as )

http://minasbeis.tripod.com/gnutella.zip

and unzip it

2.go to directory
C:\Documents And Settings\username\Application Data\LimeWire
(where username is the name you use to login to your PC) and replace the existing file gnutela.net with that

3.restart limewire.

jasonperry04 November 19th, 2007 05:41 AM

Excellent, that worked for me to, thans a bunch.

southerncutie November 19th, 2007 07:15 AM

You have to right click over the link and save target as. :xeri_ok1ani:

DMacNev November 19th, 2007 06:28 PM

I'm really not finding where this "gunatella.net" file is on my computer. I have the new one to replace it, but I can't find the folder or file to replace it.

Lord of the Rings November 19th, 2007 06:48 PM

If you deleted your LW prefs folder then it will not exist until the next time you open LW & go thru the set up options again. Then close LW, replace the file. See my post #1306 for details of where to find it, also a different way of finding it in Vista. If you follow the sample image at bottom of page for my first link you will see best way to approach finding it. Use the search window to turn on show hidden files & folders then do the search.

addam12 November 20th, 2007 06:10 AM

All i did was a search for Limewire and opened up each folder until I found it. I couldn't find it either with the pathways given.

It's AWESOME that you posted this and now my PRO version of limewire works fine(TURBO CHARGED CONNECTION EVEN).... Took me 1/2 an hour to find your post....It is VERY SAD that MY PAID FOR PRO VERSION of lime wire would not work without this fileupdate...AND that Limewire does not have an auto fix for this OBVIOUS program bug ......
Kudos ADDAM

Today, I totally uninstalled Limewire, re-downloaded it, re-installed it, verified the windows, my anti-virus software and my router firewalls were all "OFF" (a scary position to be in, but I'm trying ANYTHING at this point!).

No good result ... still unable to "connect" and/or do anything.

Is it possible, via chat, to work with someone to get it working. I am determined to get it to work before considering the "Pro" version. I see messages from others who purchased the Pro version and can't get it to connect either.

Thanks.

jaredmowbray2008 December 1st, 2007 06:43 PM

I'm also using Windows Vista. I can get it to open and trying to connect. It says connecting to network for ever and ever. And doesn't go anywhere. I'm currently instaling it again. Any help what so ever, or any ideas. And where is that file? Can someone help me find out how to get to it. I deleated everything I could find that said Limewire on it. I also had it working a cupple moinths ago but had to reinstall Vista so it cleaned everything. And I downloaded it again and thas when the problems started.

emo85 December 5th, 2007 08:22 PM

sweet it worked!

hey thanks for recommending this it worked perfectly for me on win xp. :super:

Darktangent December 6th, 2007 07:02 AM

Not sure if the origional post is just out of date or something, but i've been searching for solutions to my lack of connectivity and none of them seem to be right. This one involves deleting the preferences folder, but I can't find one anywhere. Another had you delete and replace the Gnutella.net file, which also was nowhere to be found. I went under Tools -> Options -> Advanced in Limewire and set the Listen on Port and Manual Port Forward to 59812 and Listen on port to the same just like portforward.com said to but that didn't work either.

Currently my internet setup is as follows:

ISP: Timewarner (Roadrunner Broadband)
Cable comes into house, connects to cable modem, which connects to Netgear wireless router, which connects to upstairs computer hard line, and my downstairs computer wireless. Now Norton Antivirus is on the upstairs computer, but I wouldn't think it would affect me since I'm not connected through that computer, just through the router which the cable modem is hooked into. Azureus works fine for me, just Limewire is giving me problems.

Don't worry, there wasn't one for me and I consider myself somewhat adept at computers.

Cam86aro December 6th, 2007 05:59 PM

I am using Vista. Where do I find the preferences for Limewire?

1992blazer December 8th, 2007 01:27 PM

I can't find the file to delete on XP home edition. I can't find anything on preferences, limewire, etc on the C drive (except obviosly the program files.) Any ideas? Thanks.

6_pac December 8th, 2007 03:15 PM

@ Cam86aro,

See: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

@ 1992blazer,

You need to set your folder options to "Show hidden files and folders". From your desktop, go to Start>Control Panel>Appearance and Themes>Folder Options, then click on "View" and tick by "Show hidden files and folders", click "Apply".
Then follow the instructions here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html

I'm glad to see that the technique is working for some users. Though it is very surprising that the fix is not as general purpose as I thought it would be.

The first time I tried it I could not connect. That time I cut everything from the folder and pasted it into another folder. The second time I deleted the folder and opened Limewire and then I was able to connect. I don't know why it worked but it did.

AllenDB December 20th, 2007 03:35 PM

It didn't work for me. Running XP Pro & LW Pro 4.9.37. Funny thing, I installed the free version on a laptop and it connects. Both say there is a firewall but all I have is a router, Netgear WGT624 v2. The desktop machine where LW Pro runs does NOT have any software firewall. Is there a later version of LW Pro? Is there another fix for no connectivity?

Limewire also told me that I had a firewall running when I didn't.

AllenDB December 20th, 2007 04:05 PM

Made my entry before running thru all the entries. Started at the first and gave up and made the entry. Since then I started at the latest/current and worked backwards and found the Gnutella.net fix. Replaced my file with the downloaded one and its up and running. Darn, lost all my preferences. First I'll get my 3,000 song library back online.

No firewalls, I have a big hammer!!!!
