Trouble showing results Hi i have tried everything listed to be able to "connect" limewire. I am not sure if it is even an connection problem. When i search for an audio item, the status bar fills up but there aren't any choices to choose from to download. I have insight broadband and it hasn't worked since i switched to them. I used to use time warner road runner and it worked fine. I can download from hosts connecting to me. When i choose connections it list a few hosts and i can download whatever they have. Wierd huh? Can someone PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks |
Can't Connect I also have tried everything you all have suggested... I had Limewire working just fine on my computer until I installed the latest version. Now when I go to start it, nothing happens. I believe I have done everything your website and forum say to do. I followed the instructions for the Windows firewall, and added the port. (I followed the instructions exactly.) I have Norton Internet Security, and I have Limewire with "Permit All" access. I tried adding "javawa.exe", but Norton could not find it. I deleted the limewire preferences folder. My details are: My Operating System is Windows XP My version of your Gnutella Client -- Does that mean my version of Limewire? If so, it's 4.8.1 My Internet connection is Cable I don't get any error message, nothing happens. Has anyone figured this out yet? I'm new to this forum, so I'm not sure if I've found the final messages about this problem. Thank you for your help. |
Wont connect My limewire wont connect at all. I've tried using it at different times of the day, disconnecting and reconnecting, making sure my firewall isn't blocking it. Why wont it work is there only a limited amound of time that it works or what? |
RE: Can't Connect Based on all of these postings, there are obviously some major connection issues frustrating many people. I got tired of trying to figure it out and paid the $18.88 for LimeWire Pro so I could get some customer support. LimeWire Pro is working just fine. |
fathopper Cox is known for filtering p2p, not everybody but they pick on individuals. And any p2p type. See ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire For others with problems try this if you're a windows user: Fixes for Limewire And make sure your firewalls are properly configured for LW's full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml |
I have recently paid for Lime Wire 4.8.1 I have done everything suggested on this thread to solve the problem and still it will not conncect. I am quite angry that it takes so much to make this thing work, it should NOT be this difficult. I also do not like the idea of having to turn off my anti virus in order to make it work. Do I have to get rid of Ares lite and itunes completley?? When you sign up and pay for this program MUCH more information should be given about how to set the program up. It is extremly unuser friendly. If you are not a whizz with computers I would say totally impossible. HOW do I make it work?!?! |
It worked wonderfully for me. Thank you very much! |
Adlib nobody said to turn off anti-virus or firewalls. What is recommended is you configure your firewalls to allow LW full access. And depending on your anti-virus you may need to make exceptions but I don't know which av apps would require this. User Guide: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/userguide.shtml Check the other suggestions on this page & on page 1 of this thread. Why someone can't connect can be a mystery. I've a suspicion you haven't read all the hints on this page let alone any others. For the majority of users LW is easy to get going but for a %, they have some connection issues. Hope your java is up to date. Since you haven't provided much info, I can't suggest anything more. |
Actually I have read allot of the suggestions but to be fair it is fairly complicated and I don't feel it should be. I do have a right after paying for a program for it to work! Excuse me if I am a little vexed by this. I have turned off my wondows firewall, turned off Norton anti virus (I have 2004 version so it probably doesn't work anyway) taken off the lime wire components in my doc and settings file, re-installed it, unistalled it, typed in all the numbers and IP numbers it suggests on the web site and still nothing. I have also done that java link thingy and that made no difference. I am now banging my head against a wall, in the hope it will be less painful. :p |
Adlib can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. For XP firewall see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml For Norton firewall if you have it see: Configuring Norton Internet Security Remember this is not Limewire here. This is the Gnutella Forums. If you have a complaint about LW then write your problems to customer support. We are volunteers here. Keep this in mind http://www.limewire.com/english/content/refund.shtml |
Thank you for your help but I think I am just going to get rid of it. It's far too complicated and impossible to work out, at this stage I would rather be tarred and feathered than continue to try and get lime wire to bless me with a connection! They have my money, it seems that is all they want from customers. Thanks again for the help. I am going to try and forget I knew anything about Lime wire. :) |
Hahahaha ... there's multiples of millions of people who have downlded LW. Some have problems. So we try to help. They come here for help .. not for .. AT NO TIME did you provide enough information to help us find a fix to your problem. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29 It sounds to me like you barely tried to find a fix in the 1st place. lol All you were doing was complaining. Bet you didn't even get a hold of the LW manual lol. :D Perhaps computers are not 4u. Do u remember how to turn it off. lol :D fine  |
Your quite right I should of bothered to make that trip to outer mongolia to find the script containing the secrets of Lime Wire. If I only I had the inclination. :p |
yeah that didnt help at all.. only one of the little stair connecting bars lights up green, so i cant search for anything. skfjsdf |
Dear experts and not, I hope this message finds you well cos' it doesn't with me. Before starting i'd like to congratulate with you for all your useful suggestions: it seems that you helped quite a lot of people and i hope you'll do the same with me. As you will imagine i'm facing connection problems with limewire 4.8.1 on my laptop. This is the first time I use this sw but i installed it in the same time on my laptop and on my fixed pc i have at home and, while it works on the second, it can't connnect on my laptop. The main difference in the 2 machines in the OS: win XP Home on the PC, Win XP Pro (with no SP on) on the laptop. Anyway, this one can't connect to limewire with any connection: I tried with the shared adsl connection of the home pc and with the wi-fi i have but nothing. Moreover, I already mapped the router ports properly, and also configured the windows firewall, but nothing happened. So now I deactivated it even if nothing changed. I think we can exclude it's a router or isp problem since my flatmates are using the same router and connection with their laptops and normally use limewire. After installing and disinstalling the sw several times, even cleaning the registry with reghealer, I tried all your suggestions (firewall configuration and deactivation, no automatic connection, .limewire folder deletion) following your procedures but limewire still not works. What can I do? This is definitely one of the best p2p programs so i'd really want to use it...but i can't. I hope you can help me or at least suggest me some other sw that can use the gnutella network properly. thank you very much in advance. Bizun |
Could be a routing/networking issue. You should be aware that if you forward a port in your router/modem, it can only be used by one computer in the network; ie: any other computers should have separate ports opened for them. So computer A has port 6346 opened for it. Comp B has a different port opened for it (eg: Port 6342 or something) & any others would also require a separate port no. Also for port forwarding you require a Static ip. A dynamic ip won't work for port forwarding. If port forwarding was set up whilst a dynamic ip was active then you will have to go back & start again. ie: cancel the other PF job. 1. Set up a static ip. 2. Forward a port. 3. Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. Should also try to connect whilst LW is not active on the other machines (otherwise they might steal the necessary bandwidth & activity/energy of your router.) At least whilst you're initially trying to connect for the 1st time on the laptop. |
thanks for your answer but: 1-i already have a static ip; 2-no others limewire are running cos' it's 2 days i'm here alone; 3-this is the most strange thing: the other laptops work without port forwarding.I'm the only one using it but even unchecking it it doesn't. Anyway, it still doesn't work connected with a normal DSL I have at my parent's place so I think it is a sw problem. Thanks Biz |

hi everyone this is how i made limewire work. in addition to deleting your limewire folder (i deleted + incomplete), DON'T use j2sdk, i had it installed and limewire won't start (just splash screen), and ater 5 minutes it shows the main window and it won't connect. i still don't know where the problem was, but when i installed jre (1.5) it works great. conclusion: do whatever people said here, and make sure limewire is using java jre, NOT java skd. that's helped me. |
For Those Who Cant Connect i have installed and uninstalled limewire and it still will not work for me i click on it and the box pops up and then limewire show up in my task bar and then the only thing that happens is that the "limewire upgrade option box" comes up and then the "limewire tip box" comes up and then limewire just sits in my task bar it worked for me this morning and now nothing so i just uninstalled that and J2SE runtime enviornment 5.0 update 1 along with it any suggestions |
Didnt work it didnt work for me and im using XP. I am also using Aol though. How do you get it not to start up at the beginning. |
Ok, here's the deal, I did everything with my firewall and it still says False:mad: I am running Windows 2000 pro and I still cannot use the chat function! Hell, I even shut my firewall off and it still didn't work! Any OTHER pointers???? |
I have windows 2000 pro .. i have followed ALL these instructions and am still not connecting, ive must of deleted and reinstalled LW and java bout 50 times, I miss my tunes !!!! it was working fine now suddenly it will not connect at all. ive deleted the username.limewire files done everything some one help me please :( |
For those of you having startup problems, Java (JRE) version is what you need! Uninstall your Java & re-install the JRE version. Also those with connection issues try deleting your LW preferences folder; instructions for this & a link to the Java can be found here: Fixes for Limewire (By the way, don't install Java over the net, save the installer program to your computer 1st, & then install it. Installing over the net can cause issues.) Make sure your firewalls are properly configured to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml And only have one firewall active, since 2 firewalls can interfere with each other. Remember Windows XP has its own firewall! You can double-check your status by doing these tests: Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? (If False then you have a firewall issue ... either due to internal firewall or possibly a modem/router - if it's your modem-router in which case you should go here: http://portforward.com/routers.htm & Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.) |
Connecting... Ok, I'm connected to Limewire...it even says "Turbocharged". However, I can't download anything! I'm using Windows XP and a cable modem, and it's going about 2kb/s to 0kb/s. I did the deleting the file thingy, and even downloaded Java JRE. What am I doing wrong? |
Connected at last I have been without my limewire for a couple of months and today after much searching and reading I tried your suggestion of deleting all files in c:/documents and settings.........................................a nd TA DA I have music!!! Thank you so much for your help! |
Downloading... Ok, so I've now downloaded Pro, checked my firewalls, did the bug report test, deleted the folder, and downloaded the correct Java, and I'm STILL not able to download! What's wrong with me??? |
help i'm using xp and have done all of the above. I exit limewire, delete the folder, run limewire only to have the ".limewire" folder appear again. what's goin' on? |
I have been reading this forum for a week now trying to get connected. After trying everything under the sun, I gave up. Then I had a brilliant idea. I went back to using version 4.2.3 and now I am TURBO charged and working like a charm !!!!!!!! |
School Network... Don't sweat it. If you look online in google search for "firewall port bypassing or "permission" hacking you shouls get hooked up but just read "how not to get caught" as well. You will need 3 programs from the web. Then run in them in the right order. |
frustrating can't connect When I open Limewire, I get this message: "ERROR - LimeWire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections. Some features of LimeWire may not work as expected" I can't connect whatever I do and it's really frustrating. I just get Quality - Connecting all the time. |
Seems to me this is a bogus and phoney money grabbing site. I have paid and got NOTHING out of it. Will not connect no matter what I do. |
Search Results = ZERO HELP...I downloaded Limewire Pro and used it the 1st night I had it. Now it is a few days later and I continue to get Empty search results even for titles I know are available. Help, anyone? |
It looks like hundreds even thousands of people are having trouble with connecting along with myself. Why is it so complicated to get it to work Very dissapointed with LimeWire |
help! im having problems on connecting too. ive had limewire for 3 weeks and im doing fine but when i used it now for searching it says: "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." ive done any possible thing to fix this but i still get that message and i cant get any download results! HELP! |
Help! I can't connect I downloaded limewire last night. I used it for only one session and then today when I launched, I couldn't get past the Tips dialog box before the application "unexpectedly quits." I am on a powerbook G4, running 10.3.9 I have read the suggestions from the forums (deleted preferences folder, relaunched, didn't work; I checked my firewall set up and made sure the Gnuttella was checked, no luck; I even downloaded the software again and reinstalled without any luck) I haven't tried installing Java because the links I found we're confusing---i didn't know what to download and when I picked somthing, I didn't seem to see MAC OSX option. Anyway, can someone help? I don't know what to do to fix this. thanks |
i have a dial-up connection and windows 98.. i can't do any searches and therefore can't download anything on limewire because that green light thing keeps saying that i'm "connecting" and i'd wait forever and it only stays at one bar.. and it wont connect!! i tried all the deleting stuff.... and unclicking boxes or whatnot.. and it sure is not working for me. can anyone help please?????? |
Connection Problems I just purchased the 4.8.1 version and have performed all the recommended firewall fixes, but all I get anytime I attempt a search is a message that states the program is connecting and results will not be good until I am fully connected. I have also gone to the extent of turning off all the firewall on the computer and still get the same message. I have had the program say "Quality:Connecting" for over an hour now. I have high speed broadband DSL and I know it shouldn't take that long for the program to connect in order to use it. Are there any suggestions out there that might help me out? |
I have exactly the same problem. I have disabled both firewalls, put LW ports into my Windows XP firewall and tried deleting my LW preferences folder... I am at my wits' end.... The only possible clues to my problem are that when I check the bug report I get a 'false' answer - and when I tried to access the 6346 webpage test it 'cannot be displayed'... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! |

Your fix is reinstalling Java/security update. |
I have tried alot of the things here also. I am using 4.8.1 PRO and every time i open it and try to connect it trys and then my entire internet goes down on my computer. NO netscape or Internet Explorer or anything for 10 mins then it starts back up. I am using a D-Link 524 router that is hooked up to 3 computer and a wireless laptop. One other computer and the laptop always have LW working when they want. The settings on the other computer are not alot diffrent than mine. I tried disabling the windows firewall and Norton is all off also. I am using XP pro with all the updates, 1 gig ram, p4 2.6 40g HDD if that makes any diffrence. I dont know why it works on the other ones and not this computer. I did notice that when i looked at the limewire on the one computer it shows its port as 6348 not 6346 and i tried changing it here with no luck. I think its a router thing or sometihng like that. It is just strange it shuts my LAN down for my computer when i try to connect. I cant even access the network once it shuts it down i have to sit and wait 10mins for it st start back up. Let me know if you have any ideas or need any more info. |
O ya forgot to mention, it is high speed internet dont know much about it just goes from modem to router. then to all computers. Also tried the Java update got the newest one and all that. tried clearing prefences nothing works. |
