First click on the link below and see if UPnP is enabled on you router if it isn't then enable it.

http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.as...20/%20DI-714P+

boricua365 January 21st, 2006 11:17 PM

I went through those steps and the UPnP button was not checked, so I guess I enabled it by checking that box and continuing. But then I just opened LW and tried to connect and didn't get anything. I changed the LW firewall settings to UPnP and tried it again to no avail. I didn't change the "listen on port" from 6346... Let me know if I should've...

Grandpa January 21st, 2006 11:22 PM

Try re booting your computer you do not need to set the listening port on limewire. If it doesn't work you may have to port forward let me know are you sure the other firewalls are off

zygonr January 21st, 2006 11:29 PM

Hi,

download patch frm the following link:

http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools

You will get excellent connections.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 12:01 AM

I rebooted and still get no connection. I verified that the Windows firewall and the Trend Micro firewall are both off. I don't see a way to turn the firewall off on the router, but like I've mentioned before, when I connect to my wireless network w/ my work laptop I have no problems. I've tried looking at the settings on that computer but it's set up differently since it's got corporate security, firewalls, etc...

If you go to control panel/network connections does it say down in the lower left your connection is firewalled.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 12:11 AM

It says connected, but not firewalled right now.

Grandpa January 22nd, 2006 12:17 AM

Is there any other spyware detector or other security software on you new machine that could possibly be blocking LimeWire.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 12:31 AM

I have Spybot, Ad Aware, and a program called Content Protect (v 1.8.1.32). I thought it might've been that last program, but in the settings the whole P2P section is set as "allowed". More info on that program at www.contentwatch.com. Maybe I'll disable Spybot and Ad Aware just to see... Let me know what other suggestions you've got...

Grandpa January 22nd, 2006 12:36 AM

Not that I would advise running without any protection but turn all of your protection software off and see if limeWire will connect if it does then we will know it is one or more of them.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 12:58 AM

There's no way to disable these programs without just removing them completely from the computer. I hesitate to do that in case I can't find my installation CD for the Content Protect program...

Grandpa January 22nd, 2006 01:09 AM

Ok but you have tried every thing else if I remember correctly you have set up port forward, UPnP, Disabled your firewalls you connection says it is not firewalled.Adjusted your connection settings, LimeWire works on your work laptop using the same connection. The problem has to be a program on the machine your connection seems to be fine since your work laptop works.

I did see that Connect Protect does block P2P but you said it is configured to allow limewire have you tried there support site.

Any way it is way past my bed time so I will sign off for now 1:10 AM have a good day.

boricua365 January 22nd, 2006 01:23 AM

You are probably right... I'll have to check by removing that program when I can find the backup CD...
Thanks for the help... I'm not giving up!

New User... Looks Like Same Problem

I've read through and implemented the ideas in many of these posts with no help.

Here is what I have... I sure hope someone can point me to a solution.

Thanks everyone.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)

I am using Windows XP SP2

2. What firewalls you have?

I am running the Windows XP Firewall

3. How much ram? 2Gbytes

4. Hard Disk space available? 18Gbytes

5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)

Broadband connection through a Router.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

Linksys model WRT54G

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Home

8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.

Limewire Version 4.10.5
Java 1.5.0_06

9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)

Aledo Broadband in Aledo, Texas

10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

No

11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Says server not found.

I also ran the Port probing test recommended and it said I was in Stealth mode for 6346.

These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

I followed the Windows XP instructions and also did the recommended delete /.limewire folder, etc. The only thing interesting I see everytime is where I am supposed to type 127.0.0.1 in the firewall advanced settings services area... I type it in and Windows replaces it with the Name of my computer on the Network... everytime...

In the Windows XP firewall exceptions list LW is there. Java is Not.

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showt...3757#post103757 Is the result True/False

Response is False

I have also totally disabled all Firewalls and LW still says there is a firewall stopping it.

Connection problems? Check here first! It's my understanding your router model is not the best at using UPnP (though other Linksys models tend to be fine.) See if you can find a firmware upgrade to your device. Otherwise, manual port forwarding might be the go.

But 1st, check to see that the issue is not your XP firewall. Alternate instuctions for your XP firewall:
1. Settings for XP Firewall, & 2. Setting Up WinXP Pro FireWall

Starflight_2000 January 22nd, 2006 05:09 PM

Still No Joy

I upgraded the Firmware in my Router and no luck...

LW still says that I do not have an Internet connection or a Firewall is stopping communications...

I have followed all Firewall instructions to the tee... and I am using Windows XP Pro.

birdy January 22nd, 2006 06:01 PM

Hi Starflight_2000,

See here for port forward for your router.
Step 1 set up a static IP address:
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Step 2 port forwarding:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...RT54Gindex.htm

;)

Starflight_2000 January 22nd, 2006 06:25 PM

Static IP and Port Forwarding

Will this affect my Laptop being able to access the WAN... its set for DHCP...

Thanks,
Ron

Deadfred January 22nd, 2006 06:43 PM

Good Morning All

I have been having similar problems connecting as mentioned in many of these threads. I downloaded the current version of LW on Wednesday. I went about downloading some info regards Lost part 2 and was really pleased with the results. However last few days have not been able to get onto the system and get the firewall blocking logo and "you're not connected to the Internet message". After a fair bit of this I checked the LW site and applied the Windows XP firewall connection using the port number given from the options. About 30 minutes later I got a 5 bar connection and everything was good.

However the last few days nothing. I checked the port no. again and it had changed! I went and repeated the steps using the new port number but have not been able to re-connect for the last 2 days. Please Help...

I am currently at work so will not be able to give full system details but I only purchased it 2 weeks ago. Her is what I know at this time.

Compaq Presario
Windows XP (believe service pack 2 with all current updates Latest vergion of JAVA
AMD Athalon 3700 1.7GHZ
1 GB RAM
320GB Hard Disk (2x160GB)
Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem
Ethernet Connection
ISP is NTL on 2mb Broadband (believe no p2p issues with ISP)

Any help most appreciated.

Lord of the Rings January 22nd, 2006 06:43 PM

1st try setting your linksys to UPnP setting. If that doesn't work, then follow the instructions as suggested, also changing your LW advanced firewall settings to manual port forward & using the same port as you set for the router.

No it won't affect WAN access. Your router is for external internet access. Internal wan or lan settings are independent of this. Unless of course, you're trying to connect more than one LimeWire thu the same router.

birdy January 22nd, 2006 09:18 PM

Ok Deadfred;
Are you running any other firewalls apart from XP? If so, turn off your XP & configure your other firewall for LW:
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Configure for port 6346, then go & check what port LW's using now. If it's a different port, change it to 6346.
(tools > options > advanced > firewall config will tell you the port LW's listening on, 'apply' after change) Now do this test:
http://www3.limewire.com:6346
**I think this is right, someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

I can't find your modem details anywhere for use of UPnP or internal firewalls...do you have a separate router?

Deadfred January 23rd, 2006 05:57 AM

Birdy

From this Pom, thanks very much for your reply. I've been scanning the forum for most used advice/help in this situation. I turned off tip of the day and connect at startup. No joy. Then deleted the .limewire in document and settings. It went through the basic startup and "CONNECTED IMMEDIATELY":) with 5 green bars!! Haven't shut down yet but keeping fingers crossed will re-load when I do. Thanks again for your reply.

Starflight_2000 January 28th, 2006 08:14 AM

No Joy in Texas

Well I think I finally met software that defeated me... Limewire just won't work here...

I have tried everything... everthing except the Port Forwarding because I need my router to stay on DHCP for when my kids and friends come over and need to access the internet with their laptops...

I even disabled XP firewall totally and LW still sees a firewall somehow...

Thanks for trying but this software just won't run.

3)Would my USB WiFi adapter's software (Linksys WUSB54G) block any specific traffic?

Check Connection problems? Check here first! for answers to #3. Make sure UPnP is activated. #2 has been answered in another thread. #1 If you have another firewall other than XP firewall, then disable XP's firewall & configure the other one you have instead.

You said you have a Voyager 2000 with firewall off. Have you considered port forwarding it or enabling UPnP for it?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up (sorry repeat questions for what you've already supplied):

Have you checked with your ISP as to whether they give the thumbs up or down to p2p sharing. Some nowadays block or shape bandwidth for p2p sharing.

Lord of the Rings January 28th, 2006 09:16 AM

Deadfred & Starflight_2000 check the options here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) If the problem is not your set up, then it's probably your ISP that's causing problems. Talk to them about it. After all, you pay for a "service" that you pay for them to provide! ;)

That means you have another p2p program on your computer that "is" it the magnet handler. Change it back to LW. nivin can you answer the questions on the previous page as I don't know anything about your system. Ah I just found your other thread in the BearShare section: it wont open It looks to me like a system problem. Easiest solution would be a reinstallation of windows. Not such a big deal really, just back your data up. Might even be worth reformatting. I also can't get BearShare to open. No matter what version I try.

There is a couple of things I need to know What OS XP/2000/98 are you running. If you are running XP is it SP/1 or SP/2 if it is SP/2 is your install disk SP/2

And do you know how your system is set up by that I mean how many hard drives do you have 1,2,3 if you only have one is it partitioned. In other words is it divided into multiple drives. Lets say you have 1 hard drive that is 200GB and it is partitioned in half if you went to Start/My Computer it would show different hard drives on mine C: and D: are 2 separate drives but H: and I: are one drive Partitioned into 2

Also do you have a CD burner

i have tried deleting the preferences file it made no difference

i have downloaded and extracted the purger file but windows does not know what program i need to run it i seect find on web and that just confused me even more, I NEED AN IDIOT'S GUIDE as i can't fathom it or next time i wont pay for the pro version as both times i have done that the system goes down and last time it was two months before i got a reasonable connection now i am back to square one no connection and very confused, somebody must have an easy guide for us idiots.

I doubt it is Java it looks more like your routers firewall or the XP firewall is blocking you. First make sure it is not you XP firewall disable it and do the test you did before #11 and #12 your answers to those questions say you are being blocked by a firewall. If it isn't XP Firewall go to the Linksys support page and ask them how to fix this problem. You will probably have to configure your router to allow your computers IP addresses to limewire. The link below will take you there.
