vyaw2003 May 18th, 2007 12:39 AM

also forgot to say that i followed the Zone alarm FW instructions, ran javaw.exe, and it did nothing in ZA.
Added it manually no luck, disabled the firewall and enabled the windows xp sp2 on. added the port as described on the webite, still no luck.
Any ideas??

limewire not connecting?!?!?

When u uninstall limewire make sure the limewire.exe isn't running in the processes under taskmanager anymore.
Otherwise it won't uninstall the .jar files in ur limewire folder.
In taskmanager/processes click on the limewire.exe and end process, then check ur limewire folder and delete everything that is in there manually.
Now reinstall ur limewire.
Another option is to get ur hands on the StubInstaller.exe, ececute the stubinstaller, let it dl the files and install, after install start lm and check the connection it should be running smoothly.
when u uninstall the limewire again, (make sure lm folder is empty) and reinstall ur own limewire it should be back to normal.

stop xp firewall, start zonealarm, and run javaw.exe to allow it in my programs in ZA. It doesnt seem to do anything and the exe doesnt seem to even start its process. then i manually add it.
still does nothing???

ariellopez74 May 18th, 2007 11:34 PM

hey, how r u doing today, i did what u say i could do to ffix limewire, and is not working. This is the messege:

"Limewire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking limewire's access to the internet or loopback connection on the local machine. Please allow Limewire access to the internet and restart limewire."

I am running windows vista, can u help me with this problem

Wanda Hamby May 18th, 2007 11:46 PM

This is the first time I've posted. I am also having trouble with connecting. It is showing that my problem is firewall, however, I disabled the firewall completely and still couldn't connect. Do I go to control panel and then go to add/remove programs, to delete documents(the place where you suggested)? Or do I delete the Limewire program and re-install? thanks.

nabraniel May 18th, 2007 11:56 PM

I just got limewire for this new computer and at first it worked fine, but now it doesn't. I have the "only one green bar" connection problem. The message I get when I do a search for something says "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." Is there any known or popular fix to this?

I have Vista if that helps any. Thanks.

I haven't heard from anyone on this site about my problem but I've read several others that are similar to mine. It seems that you need the following information to help. My system that I have is windows xp, I have microsoft windows firewall protection, 640 MB of ram,
my type of connection is dsl, my modem or router is
a westell versalink model 327W, I'm trying to connect from home, I have Limewire 4.12.11 and Java 1.6.0. And I believe the modem/router is UPnp enabled(not sure but think that is correct). I still am not able to connect due to firewall blocking me. Even after I disable my firewall, I'm not able to connect. Thanks for any assistance.

Connecting Only

Hi there, sorry to be one of the ones that this quick fix didn't work for, but its true. Here's an interesting twist to these connection issues. I have two computers connected to the same router with the same connection settings. One uses XP, the other 98. They both are connected to the internet through a cable modem, but only the 98 version will access Limewire while XP is not able to connect. While this is interesting its also frustrating since prior to my XP crash a couple months ago, i couldn't access the internet at all on the 98, but now it's got all connections after some minor tweaking. I even recovered the XP computer with original system disks removing SP2 because of firewall issues, but still nothing. I also tried ur latest step to delete the user files, but still no connections on the XP while my 98 is thriving with no probs. I even thought at one point that my ISP was blocking me until I got both computers running at the same time off the same line and only the XP system has connection issues and thats with the old 4.8 version as well as the latest 4.12 versions. Hope u can shed some light for me or better yet, on my XP :)

stanlyden2128 May 24th, 2007 01:24 AM

I wonder

Hm, dunno if this may work for some of you... But, it did for me. I currently have WindowBlinds installed on my comp aswell, so I right-clicked on the Bearshare icon and selected properties then disabled visual.

mickjapa108 May 24th, 2007 02:15 AM

RodAlonzo Hi
Go Tools /Options /Advanced /Firewall Config & set Manual Port Faward with listening port & Manual Port Faward No's the same.
Use a number between 45000 To 65000 Don't use UPnP. click Apply!!
Then go to your other Computer, Do the same, But Set a differant Port Number
Then it should recognize both coms after a restart.
If your still having probs after that.
Use this link.

what do you mean delete the whole directory?
you mean just the file that says "limewire" or the file that says " incomplete" and "shared" aswell?

wondering why September 22nd, 2007 02:41 AM

Hi adasha lyrai...
You can make your own thread by selecting the appropriate forum for your question and if you look up at the top left hand corner you will see a tab that says New Thread....

Ok, now that's out of the way...
Try deleting the preference folder/s, you may have 1 or even 2 they are called the LimeWire folder and the .limewire folder...
These instructions will show you what to do and what to delete...

No, it's only the Preferences folder you delete! Nothing else! Once you re-open LW, it will created a new fresh set of preferences. ;)

No, no need to delete those. And don't delete the LW program. Doing so will cause you major problems getting LW to run again.

hi...

When i FIRST installed LimeWire i was able to download music, but now when i try to connect it fails ALL the time. I have made "exception" on windows Firewall but i'm still having problems with the connection.
Please could you help?! I am very new to this file sharing business (so i'm clueless!)
Your help and advice would be much appreciated!

Many regards

ollieogg September 22nd, 2007 02:10 PM

Im done with it.

I have used Limewire for years now and I had problems with it when I first got my XP! I soon figured out it was a Zonelarm problem and fixed that. Sadly now I have Vista I am having problems again .... I have tried all the suggestions here and I know for a fact its not my firewalls, antivirus progs causing it. I can't be bothered going thru this grief every time I get a new OS. So until Limewire consider getting their act together I am going to be using Ares. It connects first time everytime and is way faster. Sorry Limewire but I have moved on.:(

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

Thanks!

Nope!!

:nono:

I use Mac OS 10.4.9.
See my recent post regarding this. I give you all the details. I think Gnutella/Limewire must have a problem with connecting through a router, or maybe it has to do with Bellsouth DSL. Whatever.
This is doubly frustrating to me. Two years ago I made the mistake of presuming their 'update' was just that, and when I said ok I wound up having to pay another $24.95!!!!!!!!
So I have paid 50 bucks for software that won't work :yikes:
Thanks a lot Limeware - get your act together. There are a lot of ticked off people out here!

:bangh:

ZHMMY September 27th, 2007 05:42 PM

Did not work with my OS 10.4.9.
I think you are sincere in wanting to help. However, how do I get the problem fixed? Is there a support site with techies whose job it is to get everyone's Limewire up and running??
Please help us use the software we have paid for.
Thanks.

smokey1921957 September 28th, 2007 04:38 PM

well I have been watching this site for a few days and trying all sorts of suggestions to get limewire working. I have finally found my problem. I have 2 hard drives- I had an older version of Limewire on one that I don't use. As soon as I deleted it the one on my other hard drive started working!!! Yea!!

ZHMMY September 28th, 2007 05:12 PM

I checked mine. I have two drives but LW is only on my main drive. Still can't connect. Hey, I've paid 50 bucks to them by mistakenly opting for an 'update' when their 'alert' kept showing up, and now LW won't work, period !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help me connect in a complex!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys

I live in an apartment block and I have a network point in my room to access the internet, but I cant get Limewire or any torrent mangers to connect. The cable runs from the wall to my pc. I also disabled all firewalls and I do not have access to a router since the internet runs through the entire block. Please help me solve this problem!!!!

J

birdy October 1st, 2007 05:26 PM

Have you ever been able to connect with p2p apps? Do you know if any other people in the complex can use p2p without a problem? Please give us your details.
System details - help us to help you (click here)

Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. change LW's listening port to 64049 > apply > ok. You can also try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535.

Do you know which ISP the block uses? There could be a firewall associated with the block's internet setup...talk to whoever's in charge of the internet there & see if they can help you out;)

Not on this cpu yet, setup the internet yesterday.

Do you know if any other people in the complex can use p2p without a problem?

No, not sure.

Lord of the Rings October 2nd, 2007 01:14 AM

I am aware some ISP's in South Africa are not friendly to p2p users. Don't know if yours is one of those. Also as Birdy pointed out, it can be a little complicated when trying to connect via an appartment network. Since you have no access to the router, you don't know what type they are using or the settings. There's a chance you are firewalled by the router without UPnP or port forwarding abilities.

Which means the default port LW uses is definitely being blocked by something. Either the ISP or the apartment router. BTW did you configure your XP firewall? -> Windows Firewall - LimeWire

Try Birdy's suggestions above. But not only with the listening port, but change setting to Port forward & change Connection port also to one between 49152 - 65535 such as 64049. Some others to try are: 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 443, 427, 20282, 22817, 34599, 40475, 65530, 6295, 8360, 19515, 20285, 22091, 25079, 26394, 33307, 33049, 42628, 52343, 51002, 50012.

I don't normally ignore people, but I do tend to be a bit busy. Your other thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post291178
As WW sugggested, the problem may be your ISP. Try WW's suggestions. Also try Phex to see if you have the same problems. You will probably need to make firewall exceptions for Phex also. ;) Another alternative to try is Where to get the “real” BearShare. :)

adasha lyrai October 4th, 2007 12:35 PM

WW?
is Phex like Limewire but different?
should i do the java uninstall reinstall different version thingy. If so, could i have the link????
