C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Application Data's hidden by default, so you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files & folders to be able to see it (control panel > folder options > view > check the radio button to show hidden files & folders > apply > ok). Vista users look here C:\Users\your \\username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire

Thanks for your help. I'm using Leopard on a new iMac with a new Airport Extreme router. Your suggestion of trashing the prefs worked.

Thanks, I have Vista and Norton s/w and couldn't figure out why I wasn't connecting. This tip worked the first time, much appreciated.

This Didn't work for me.... :-(

faatma July 26th, 2008 08:02 AM

I jumped the gun.... I thought it didn't work because I saw that same 1 bar immediately... it just took a sec for all the other bars to light up!!! thanks!!!

kl3123 July 26th, 2008 08:06 PM

Do I need to reboot after changing the gnutella file? Because I've deleted and replaced it multiple times with no success.

kl3123 July 26th, 2008 08:18 PM

Great, now I can connect, but none of my searches find anything. Even the most common artist turns up nothing. And on top of that, the connection is constantly resetting itself.

In LW go tools -> options -> searching -> basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it -> Apply -> ok

Also check out this link by wondering why (search problems) if these dont work try this link by LOTR (Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should)

kl3123 July 27th, 2008 07:10 PM

Didn't fix the problem. My connection gets strong, I do a search, no results, and the connection dies.

Hrdwrker July 27th, 2008 10:44 PM

Wow!!!! it worked. I didnt realize in how many places Limewire was. It was a little difficult removing the jar but with persistance it worked. I had to put all the files into the recycle bin do some restarts but it worked. I then made sure Limewire did not start automacticly I even turned my firewall on but allowed Limewire. It is great. This computer I can burn without problems, so when I lost my ability to use it wow what a mess. No more "firewall" preventing me. Thank you so very much... I didnt believe it until I tried it. I think the other limewires were also causing a conflict?? Make sure you check your entire computer for any leftover files and it should do well.

Trelyn July 28th, 2008 03:52 AM

woohoo, thanks!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you! Spent the past 3 hours racking my brain and pulling hair trying every connection problem fix I've seen, and this is the one that worked! *grins* thanks =)

You must show all hidden files:-
Preference folder in vista is found here

C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire ß(Preference Folder)

Click on this link to show hidden files in vista
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

NOTE: The limewire folder is also called the preference folder -- delete the limewire folder

Hrdwrker July 28th, 2008 10:18 PM

KL: go back and make sure you checked everywhere for Limewire files, if you leave even one and upload it will cause a conflict and not work correctly. Are you sure that all the bars on the bottom and to the left are hindered by a firewall? They should all be green. Mine reacted the same way.

I'll try deleting the preferences folder again, and I'll do a file search for anything limewire, and delete that as well. I'll reinstall it, replace the gnutella.net file, and see what happens.

But yeah, the bars are green, and sometimes there's a brick wall infront of the globe, other times not. However, when it was working properly for me, there was still a brick wall infront of the globe.

What a fickle program.

kl3123 July 29th, 2008 04:05 PM

Did all that, reinstalled, the whole bit. I'm still getting nowhere.

Hrdwrker July 30th, 2008 12:19 AM

I think you still have a conflict there. Check in the owners documents and check in the programs file. I had to move mine by putting everything into the trash. I removed it in my computer with the remove/add but there still lingered files. You need to go to windows explorer and check all your files, just to be sure something is not hiding on you. Believe me I bet there is still one hiding. Your having the same problem I had until I found that last file group. the extension was jar. It was the hardest to get rid of. After deleting I did a shut down of the computer and waited just a bit, then restarted. Doubled checked to be sure everything was gone. Then I reinstalled Limewire and it worked just fine. Also make sure you do an allow this in the firewall and it should be fine. But you really need to make sure there is no sign of Limewire and do the restart before reinstalling. ok. try it.

Hrdwrker July 30th, 2008 12:26 AM

oh, I noticed you said the "gnutella.net file" no, once you delete out everything just reinstall the Limewire as if it were new to your computer. Just go to download and click.

kl3123 July 30th, 2008 06:43 PM

Okay, need a little more help. Where or what should I be looking for? I've ran a search for "limewire" and "gnutella." What else should I do?

Mick41 July 30th, 2008 06:53 PM

Computer crapped out and i had to reload everything. When i log on to home site saying,i've had account it doesn't recogize my e-mail addres.Running xp'trying toget back in to redownloadhelp? Pro was running perfectly even with norton fire wall. This time i'v tried turning it off but no go.HELP!!!!!

kl3123 July 30th, 2008 08:10 PM

I've even tried downloading an older version (4.16.6). My friend uses that with no problems. I'm getting incredibly fed up. It's not like I can even try a different program. They all run on the same network and none of them work. Frostwire, MP3 Rocket, they all fail to connect.

asteeno1 August 1st, 2008 10:54 PM

Hi, I always have the 'starting connection' sign but it wont connect. It used to but for some reason in the last month it has stopped. I have since purchased limewire pro but it is still happening. This sounds really stupid but how do you delete a directory?

lewofva August 2nd, 2008 10:49 AM

My simple fix for the Connection prolem

After reviewing all the posted threads, I tried a fix slightly simpler than Limewacko's suggestion (Limewacko - thank you for putting me in the right direction).

Simply go to the Files tab, then click on disconnect. Wait a few seconds and click on the connect, no need to shut LW down. My connection was back up and working immediately.:)

First, the "delete-the-pref-folder" advice did nothing for me.

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

Wont connect.

No luck there :(

jimjones2005 August 2nd, 2008 04:37 PM

106 pages! Wheww. Wanted to thank you for the suggestion all the way back on the first page. Finally fixed Limewire after a few days of searching for help.

Deleted the .limewire folder as suggested, restarted Limewire and all is well!

Thanks

Additional suggestions

I had tried all the other suggestions before manually disconnecting, then reconnecting. Using Windows Explorer, located the directory (I believe it is in the folder Documents and Settings/USer/limewire - check suggestion in other threads as to the excact location). Left click on the folder once to highlight it, then right click once to open an options window. The delete command is near the bottom.

Also, someone had posted a suggestion to add two site addresses and ports. You should be able to add these addresses via the Connection Tab, use the 'add' button at the bottom.

Lastly, you may want to shut LW down and restart it before trying the Disconnect/Connect suggestion.

Connection to Limewire with Vista and Avast

I am really getting so very frustrated...

I am running Limewire 4.18.3 on Windows Vista. I have got a wireless internet connect and I'm running Avast! Antivirus version 4.8 Home Edition.

my limewire does NOT want to connect.. it keeps on having one green bar, and says it is currently trying to connect.

I have no idea what more to try - I've tried playing round with all of the settings, and re-installing limewire... also, where do i find this .limewire file on my vista system?

can someone who can give me specific advise in terms of my system specs PLEASE let me know how to fix this?

thanks a lot!

thanks a lot!!!

In Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- if still no good click on (system details) fill in and post back here. The 1st link will show you where the lw folder is located in vista. What version of java are you running with LW (open limewire -> click on Help -> click on about limewire) it will show you your java /lw version

mcquakkers August 7th, 2008 01:02 PM

Ok, I've tried all the instructions and nothing is working. My McAfee and Window's Vista firewalls are letting Limewire through. It connects but with only 1 green bar but wont go all th way. I have the latest version too. I wanted the beta version but didn't see one listed. The beta versions have always worked on my computer and the other ones up until now. I've even deleted/uninstalled Limewire and re-installed it.

I'm running on:
Window's Vista
Java 1.6.0_07
Limewire 4.8.13
McAfee firewall & Window's firewall

Lord of the Rings August 7th, 2008 01:03 PM

Turn one of the firewalls off. XP firewall clashes with other firewalls resulting in less security & side effects, not more security. ;)

cscarbro August 8th, 2008 05:55 AM

This fixed my problem of connecting. I use XP.

BooHooHoo August 8th, 2008 10:27 AM

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Is a fix... thanks!

Updating original AT&T-Yahoo post...

Lord of the Rings August 8th, 2008 11:46 AM

Thank you BooHooHoo. :) For more information & sample image for mac osx, can see Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX

mcquakkers August 8th, 2008 12:08 PM

The firewalls never fixed my problem so I got rid of all the limewire folders and re-installed. Problem solved. :)

Did the same... cleared up my problems... wish I hadn't trashed my Pro App!

w642lisa August 8th, 2008 05:39 PM

will we lose everything? I am just trying to get more green bars so I am not that desparate. Thanks.

w642lisa August 8th, 2008 05:50 PM

Did you lose all of your old files from the install?

Lord of the Rings August 8th, 2008 05:56 PM

Only way you'd lose your old files from an installation is if you use your program folder as a download folder. Which is totally silly & thoughtless to choose or allow such a location. ;) If that was the case, then move those folders out. Install the new version, choose or create a folder in your user account documents area & close LW, then replace the new download & incomplete folder with the old ones. :)

For anybody updating from a version of LW earlier than 4.16 then see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...downloads.html

Getting Limewire Started

Everytime I try to start Limewire nothing happens. Limewire is downloaded on my computer, its not running at all, my Java is up to date, my firewall allows it, and I just updated everything on my computer. What is the problem?

No idea. We have no information about your set up. So not sure anybody could guess.

We do sometimes simply ignore posts like yours, since it was obvious you didn't read the forum rules. The forum rules were listed on the forum page even before you registered here & again before your first post. And received other links to them between then & the time of your first post.
