mickjapa108 March 28th, 2007 05:06 AM

Deum, when U get going.
Don't D/L exe,rar,zip, files. I am expert at using LimeWire & I don't touch them they are 99.9% viruses.
We only use these for testing anti virus programs.
Just scan with av before opening every file.

deum March 28th, 2007 06:25 AM

Hi Mick,

Java installed, still no connection.
Under firewall config. what do i put into Listening Port & Router config?

mickjapa108 March 28th, 2007 06:33 AM

Manual port faward, & Listen port should be the same No's in L/W
45000 To 65000 , Number used in router should be same.
Dont forget to APPLY every time you set somthing
also you must create a static IP first.

deum March 28th, 2007 06:39 AM

waiting for admin to let me know what prots are open in that range
or
Do u know what port BearShare uses default and i can try that

Sorry for the hassle

mickjapa108 March 28th, 2007 07:11 AM

Sorry no idea
He can do test to see what ports are free to use

router problem

I don't know if you can help me. I have been using LW for a long time with no problem. Have just installed Linksys wireless router WRT54G and LW does not work anymore.

do you know if I have to configure anything in the router? If positive, what?

thank you for the attention.

Antonio

wondering why April 1st, 2007 11:18 PM

Here are the instructions to port forward your router...
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm

Don't forget the static IP...there's a link to do this in the instructions...:rolleyes_2:

Connecting

Sdaswani

Thank you for the Info posted about deleting the directory. I have spent hours trying to edit ports in my firewall, following online tutorials about Belkin configurations and numerous adjustments of settings over the past couple months. All the while not being able to connect to LW. Then one 20 second fix and i'm back in the game.
Thanks again.

Wasser April 7th, 2007 05:13 PM

Mine was working fine yesterday and today it's telling me I have no connection to the internet or just sits on search timing out passively.

What did I do in my sleep?

Oooh Snaps....

hey I'm having troubles. I mean, LimeWire says I'm connected to the network, but when it comes to SEARCHING... NOTHING HAPPENS! I am behind a firewall & the brickwall does show up. I've read about every solution & have tried doodling with my firewall, but still NOTHING. It's frustrating to NO end! Is there something up with LimeWire? Cauz I saw some friends yesterday & they were all complaining about how LimeWire's not working for them either. I am stressing this because, believe me I am an experienced LW user & I have NEVER had this problem before.

Comp info:
WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005
Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007
512 MB
35.7 GB
connection - Cable
modem - Motorola SURFboard
connecting from - home
LW/Java version - 4.12.11/1.5.0_11
ISP provider - Time Warner
connection test said - "Your test worked!"
not sharing with any other computers
like I said up top, "1st time having this problem"
I do see the brickwall & all bars of LW are green

help is REALLY APPRECIATED... K thanx, gonna make like my smile there & bang my head into the wall in thee meantime

birdy April 8th, 2007 02:57 PM

If you're connected, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. You'll find instructions in this thread, along with some other advice & tips to help if you're not seeing any search results:)
Blank results page

If you'd like to get rid of the firewall icon, make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall. If your PC-Cillin comes with a firewall, configure it to allow LW & make sure the XP firewall is off.
What's the model of your Motorola? Depending on the model, there's possibly an internal firewall.

MasterChi April 9th, 2007 12:56 AM

Ah, thanx for thee quick reply btw :xeri_ok1ani: . But I've tried configuring my PC-Cillin firewall to allow LW with lil success. That link to where there are images that help you find LW's preferences is very helpful :) . Only thing is, when I unhide my "Application Data" folder "LimeWire" folder is NOWHERE to be found. But I did find thee other ".limewire" folder which is in my "Documents and Settings" with ease. Should I delete that one? Also I should probably mention that I've tried that Router Config in thee Options Menu of LW, also that ummm... Manual Port Forwarding method. Where I change thee listening port number to thee Manual Port number & then specifying that port in my firewall's settings. [Question] Should I try to input the original "listening port" number to the "manual port"? Could that work? Also, I ran into my friend who's more comp savvy than I am :cantseeyou: & he mentioned that my "router" might need "resetting"? Well how in the HELL do I do that?

Oh and my Windows firewall is off & my Motorola SURFboard is that slim upright black model (that's the only way I can describe it). The model number is... SB5101. Thanx again...

birdy April 9th, 2007 01:34 AM

Yes, delete the .limewire folder. You must've used a much older version of LW at some stage, that's the old prefs location. After you delete that folder & restart LW, you should see the LimeWire folder within Application Data from now on.

Your SB5101 is just a modem & doesn't seem to have a firewall. Do you have a router as well?

Try this link for a tutorial about configuring the PC-cillin firewall. You have to click the link at the bottom of the screenshots to see each successive page.
http://www.leeindy.com/firewall_pccillin-1.shtml

You could also try disabling that firewall & configuring the XP firewall instead. See if that makes any difference:confused: You can try adding the listening port number to LW's manual port forward box (they both have to be the same number)...I don't really think it'll help but you never know! Since your connection is fine (all green bars) I would've thought you'd be able to see search results. Being firewalled doesn't necessarily mean that you can't search or download.

Update your Java, that won't hurt. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your old Java version before you install the new one.

thanks
Atul Vaish

mickjapa108 April 9th, 2007 02:23 AM

Datul Hi
In a word NO, its java that no longer supports very old versions.
OK friend.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/

mickjapa108 April 9th, 2007 03:48 AM

Datul Hi.
It will not be possible to use, because Limewire will not work without java &
java is always being improved & upgraded.
4.0.7 is now finished, so try as you might no amount of reinstalling will help

datul April 9th, 2007 09:09 PM

mick ,

could u pls ensure that 4.0.7 no longer works anywhere?
One thing would be to ensure is that if i get to talk to someone who works for limewire community , like some developers or designers of lime wire software .
could u pls help me out in this regard?

Thanks mick

birdy April 9th, 2007 09:53 PM

Hi datul,
I don't have a version as old as you, oldest I have is 4.8.1:D
My 4.8.1 still works (with Java 6), but honestly...I wouldn't use it , unless it was as a test for someone. You might want to look at the LW changelog...then you'll be able to see exactly what changes have been made since 4.0.7.
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

There have been some huge improvements since way back then & LW is so much better now. You don't have to get rid of your 4.0.7 installer if you love it, but do consider the newer versions...they're great;)

Sorry for jumping in Mick, hope you don't mind:)

datul April 9th, 2007 10:06 PM

thanks birdy
the reason why i am using lime wire 4.0.7 because compression option is not mandatory in this , but higher version to this, this option has been declared mandatory .
i want to see its uncompressed packets and write some decode for them .
anyway, thanks for the help guys !!

bye

Hey you guys I hope I'm not repeating any questions but I am honestly confused and unable to find answers! I am not very computer savvy either...But I'm learning! Okay here goes: I have Windows XP and dial up internet connection. My dell desktop is a dimension 4600. I'm not sure how much space is free though. Recently I took some advice that I found elsewhere in the forum.. But here goes. My mum downloaded LM 4.12.6 I think? Yeah..And it works fine..As long as you are on my brother's desktop and my Mum's AOL screenname. But how can I get LM on the other desktops? I tried going into the search in the start menu...But every LM I've opened through that has been empty. And I've had to set everything like new. I have some songs downloaded already...How can I get the same LM on each desktop? And also...I am having a he**-of-a-time trying to get into the firewall settings of MY aol sn!! I got the okay and I know my mum's password..But when I go into security I get this site called Discover AOL saying I need to download AOL security! Is it possible to use LM on other sn's?I am so confused... These computers are uber confusing...O.o

mickjapa108 April 11th, 2007 02:35 AM

Datul Hi.
Sorry let me expand on what Ive said, I understood that you wanted to use 4.0.7 as your everyday app, this would be very hard to keep going, because of
the buildup of vulnerabilities & exploits that spammers have found in older versions of java & L/W.
But if you don't mind having to keep reinstalling then I believe it is possible.
What java version was you using when it worked fine ?
Try going back to JRE 1.5.0.09, PM me if you cant get that installer & I will
get it to you.
JRE 1.5.0.11 would be better,(Less Vulnerable) but not sure it will work, try it!!
Just remember to do a search & delete all other version of java & L/W files before installing again.
After you D/L java, put a copy of it,along with L/W installer in a zip folder for
safe storage.(Don't delete that in search) LOL.
Let us know how you get on Atul G
Vaish, is that same as in "Vaishnava"
Peace.

Hey everyone. i just had to share my good news. i have been one this thread site trying everthing that people were suggesting. it seemed like nothing was helping. I originally had McAfee anti virus. i unistalled all of it because i purchased Norton Internet Security 2007 which is compatable with windows XP and Vista. It still wasn't working once i installed norton. I then thought since i've been doing so many things to try and fix limewire, i'm just going to restore the default settings back to limewire. Well, now it's been working great all day with a turbo-charged connection. Here's what you have to do to restore default settings. hope it works for as many of you as it can.

1. click on the tab tools and open up the options menu.

2.down towards the bottom of that menu there is a button that says "Restore Default". go ahead and click on that and follow and promts. It may ask "are you sure" or what ever.

3. then completely close out limewire and make sure it isn't still running in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop. if you're not sure if it's still running or not you can restart your computer which will for sure close it down.

4. then reopen limewire and it will promt you to set up your settings again.

once i completed step 4 it located all my music and opened up and went right to turbocharged connection and has been there all day.

You're my kind of person Birdy...

HeHe, thanx alot! Can't believe all it was, was that older ".limewire" folder that you said to delete. Then after deletion, ofcourse like you said, I checked my "Application Data folder" to see the "LimeWire folder" that was suppose to be there THERE! I mean after reading :newspaper: and reading countless threads on the matter, and carefully choosing which action to take. Easy enough all it really took was deleting that folder. I'm much thankful, grateful... YOU NAME IT I am that. Thanks for all your assistance in my download angst, I bow to your apparent superior LW knowledge :aweof: . You're AWESOME, so go ahead & pat yourself on the back there Birdy. Seriously, standing ovation for you there :xirokrotima: . You deserve it, you've yet helped another poor "I Can't Get My Limewire To Work" soul. Now I'm off to maraude the highspeed downloading pleasures of my LW :w00t: . I'm obviously having too much fun with these smileys too, hehe THANKS AGAIN :Smilywais:

It's that easy people... well in some cases :laugh_2: .
locate & delete .limewire folder found here....

wondering why April 15th, 2007 12:45 PM

Your problem could lay with your ISP as they are known to filter p2p in some area's...

Just try this...See if there's a 98 option...
Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

If that fails you may have to update your limewire...If you choose to do that, save your Pro installer to My documents, that way if another version of LW doesn't do the trick you can reload your old Pro...
Try both 4.12 and the latest Beta 4.13...

mickjapa108 April 18th, 2007 06:32 AM

Hi kadeer
System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these just the Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.
