I have tried deleting the LW pref file.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
I set up a static IP and tried opening ports and port forwarding.
Nothing seems to be working. =(

Recheck your ip. The most common mistake made when people forward a port is not setting up the static ip properly. If that was the case, you should delete the port forward settings you have & redo them. Port forwarding is based on the ip used at the time.

I'd suggest uninstalling your java versions you have & reinstalling using the control panel. Then reinstall LW using the "Offline" installer (it will uninstall the previous copy of LW at beginning of installation.) recheck your Norton FW settings; Configuring Norton Internet Security. Make sure your XP or any other firewalls are turned OFF! Also, try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

I can't give much more advice because you haven't given your system & peripheral set up specifics.

BT do in fact shape bandwidth for p2p use. Also I believe the BT connection devices need special configuration. Check the BT support pages on their website & check the details of your particular device. It may need port forwarding. Also recheck your Vista firewall settings. And make sure you don't have other active firewalls on your computer. Generally found in the control panel. Check your anti-spyware, etc. utilities to be sure none are blocking LW.

wondering why April 21st, 2007 10:57 PM

Try these fixes and you should be right to go...
Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(5th one down)
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...oadfree2.shtml

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

lismarie06 April 23rd, 2007 09:56 PM

I have done everything that has been said to do and i've look at so many different posts and tried so many things and i still can't seem to get LW to connect. Here is my problem, a couple of days ago i was downloading songs and it was working perfectly fine, then all of a sudden it stopped connecting. When i try to download it says connecting for a couple of minutes then it says need more sources. Does anyone know of any other ways to fix this problem??? I could really use the help as i seem to be getting very frustrated. thanks. oh yeah, i forgot to add that i have the basic version of LW

birdy April 23rd, 2007 10:17 PM

Hi lismarie06,

So there's nothing actually wrong with your LW's connection to the network? It's just that files won't connect for download? This thread's about problems when LW won't connect to the network:laugh_2:

There are heaps of fake files around. They'll sit connecting for ages & then get stuck needing sources forever. Try the tips in these threads & remember to always check a video file with Bitzi (music doesn't get rated as often) before download;)

Fake files showing up in search results
How to find music (also has info that applies to video)

If it's happening with every single file that you try to download (do a test...search for an old song & try to download a file with 10 sources or less), delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below, also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past.
Fixes for LimeWire

This will kill all of your settings within options. You'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them:)

Tried Everything

I tried disabling tool tips and clearing out the directory. I enabled the Exception for Windows Firewall (my only one) and it still says that I'm firewalled. I also tried getting the JRE solution and it still says that I'm ****ing firewalled! I'm honestly about to leave LimeWire. I couldn't connect to that "Your test worked!" page. It's supposed to be testing if your ISP blocked the port right? Well it's not my school network, my roomate can connect fine. It should work because I allowed the exception in Window's firewall. It still says that I am blocked.

What the hell is going on? PLEASE HELP!!!:mad2:

There's no fixing this. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall and it's still not working. A quick answer would be preferable.

lismarie06 April 25th, 2007 08:15 PM

still can't connect

ok so i tried everything that was suggested for me to do and i still can't get my songs to connect to download. although i am connected to limewire, when i attempt to download something it will say connecting... for a while then it will go to more sources needed... this is very frustrating, i've never had any trouble w/limewire before. i have also disabled my firewalls and it still shows that i have a firewall up. i also did the test and it said that it was successful. if anyone knows anything else that may help, please help. oh yeah, i also have two other computers in the same household and they work perfectly fine. i would greatly appreciate anymore help that i can get. thanks

unable to connect

I am running windows xp home edition. Limewire 4.12.11 used to work great, but now it will not connect to the network. I have tried everything that has been posted here in the past. Nothing has worked. What can I do to fix this problem?
Thanks

newloserintown April 26th, 2007 11:25 AM

I am so confused.
I am not very computer savvy and am trying to learn so i hope someone can help.
I really need to get into this computer stuff world because LW and things are dangerous if you don't know what you are doing!

I do know that I am AOL 9.0 Security Edition internet dial-up connection.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600.
I have Windows xp.
I know we do not use the AOL firewall because we use McAfee Security Center.
I have downloaded LimeWire before and it did work alright.
As long as you were on my brother's desktop logged onto my mother's screenname, you could open LW and sign on to download and everything.
I tried adding shortcuts to LW onto the other two desktops on my computer but it seemed that it was just what you get when you first install? I know that's not a very good way of explaining but it's true. It asked me all these questions about languages and setups and everything. And then the few songs (but still music!) were not there! Eventually I could not even open LW anymore, so I deleted all LW files off the computer.
I went in on my desktop and my screenname and tried downloading but I got a message saying something was wrong so I used the alternative download. Everything seemed to work and I can open it and everything.
I tried logging on and now the bars stay at 1 green no matter what! It says there is a firewall blocking but it doesn't make any sense. Our firewall allows LimeWire, it says so in the settings! And I am allowed to get on this site on my screenname so why is this not working!?!?
If someone could e-mail me with help that would be great~

Basically none of the solutions given have worked. Please respond promptly.

The Tid April 26th, 2007 01:16 PM

Looking at this thread, it seems just about everyone has the same problem - they cannot connect. Why doesn't Limewire sort this out?

Ok, this is my problem.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.9 on iMac + plenty of RAM and free HD space, I have broadband with tiscali and a Netgear router linked by ethernet cable. I have OS X firewall switched on (the brick wall always shows in LW), but it SOMETIMES connects me through it, and SOMETIMES it doesn't. When it connects I have 4 or 5 green bars showing and I can sit there for hours quite happily.

But next time I launch LW, it's all gone. I have one green bar and nothing comes up when I search.

If I delete LW and all the Preferences, and install it all again, SOMETIMES this works and gives me a connection, SOMETIMES it doesn't. There is no way to predict this.

One thing is for sure - if it doesn't give me a connection, then doing that fix in System Prefs where you tell it which port to 'listen' at (from LW prefs) NEVER makes a difference.

The only thing that ever works, is to delete everything and re-install, and then just hope and pray that THIS time I get a connection. It shouldn't be this arbitrary, should it? Is there any way I can guarantee a connection when I launch LW?

I am at my wits end over this.

Maybe it's got something to do with your ISP:blink:

There are heaps of posts here from Tiscali customers who either can't connect or can only connect sometimes.

Tiscali & Limewire
can't connect between 5pm-11pm
I have found a solution to getting Limewire to work with Tiscali

Use the forum search to look for Tiscali & you'll find more info.

Thanks for your input birdy. As it happens, I have just independently discovered that one of those threads you have put a link to, is the right answer in my case. I can only connect to limewire with tiscali if I try in the morning or early afternoon. Evenings? Forget it!

This is not a problem for me, as I have days free anyway. But it does show that in some cases, it is not the port, it is not the bandwidth, it is not anything except the time of day. But don't ask me why, I haven't a clue.

I don't understand will deleting whats in the .limewire ruin my application???? I wasnt able to log in, then tried again later and it worked, didnt search or anything just logged off. Now wont log in again. Is it just a glitch in limewire right now?

andyfitzp May 2nd, 2007 08:03 PM

Personally I suggest to those of you who work for the Limewire community, please check out to see if there are any conflicts with the newest Java updated files. I didn't start having this problem until that was downloaded and installed.

re. probs with connection

Hey all,

Sdaswani is onto something, i was having issues (couldn't get a connection etc) just deleted limewire fully from the puta (run the uninstall wizard to do the job fully), then re-installed limewire pro, and it seems to work really well...:super:

6_pac May 6th, 2007 11:53 PM

Hi Penguinz,

Glad you found a fix for your problem. What probably fixed it was uninstalling LW and redownloading and installing it again. I just don't want people thinking that purchasing Pro will fix their connection problems, cause it won't. Then they'll be mad cause they spent their money and it still won't connect ;).

Delete the .limewire folder. Do it with LW completely shut down.

In the newest versions it's located at C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Application Data\limewire. Application data is a hidden folder, so you have to set your folder options to show hidden folders. Either location you delete the limewire folder.

connection problems

I have now sent 3 e-mails to limewire and still no reply. I had the free download of limewire and all seem to be working fine. I then paid for the service of having faster downloads. Now I can't even connect to get anything downloaded. I have a wall across my map. I have tried everything I can to get rid of it but as yet no joy. Everytime I go into limewire help it keeps coming up with solutions for XP. I don't have XP I have Windows ME and have AVG free virsus program. I had this before and it worked well. I tried to connect today and finally got a very strong signal even with the wall across my map, but it did not last very long. Can somebody please help me, as I am having no joy with limewire even though I have paid for their service.

mi_vodkita May 14th, 2007 07:04 PM

Hi Alexmeme, I'm not an expert but I'm going to tell you what I did when I had your problem, If it works let me know... and as of now I haven't had any more problems.
First I went to the Firewall settings (Windows firewall, that is) and added as an exception my Limewire.
Then I went to the antivirus settins (In my case avast!) and did the same thing, and after that I restarted my computer.
- All this was done following directions from one on the threads from this site, but I don't remember which, and that alone was supposed to solve my problem -
Still however I got the wall in front of my world, so I went to another thread and did what it said, which was: go to Limewire Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall config there you have two options Listening ports and Router Configuration. On Listening ports you shoud have a number, and on Router configuration you should have checked the option Use UPnP so, check the option Manual Port Forward and write there the same number from the 'Listen on Port section'.
Restart your limewire and see if it helped...

Need a little help

How do I find my firewall???

ScottD123 May 15th, 2007 02:21 PM

Well, i've done this fix before.

Deleted .limewire and Limewire in Application data about a months ago when i had a problem exactly like this (not loading up at all, limewire load box pops up then disappears and nothing happens) but now i have no .limewire folder in my documents and settings to delete! :bangh:

delete the application data limewire ok, but it still doesn't fix it. Reinstalled limewire and all my java stuff to get the recommended version and nada.

Oh im using Windows XP btw.

Any help would be much appreciated

Recent connection issues - Windows XP

Hi there

I've just started to experience this connection issue today (15.5.07 ) - I tried various posts above ( removing Java updates, deleting the limewire directory etc ) but none worked for me , so I started to look at this issue in greater depth as I am luckily an iT Specialist.

My issue is soley down to a new Windows update that I install on a particular PC only today !

When I removed this "update" Limewire worked immediately !

The Windows update in question was...

Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)
A security issue has been identified in Universal Plug and Play that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it.

Try this solution by use of the add/remove option naturally in your Control Panel, should you find like me, having tried the other solutions posted here that LW still doesnt connect

Hope this helps
RW

If you're still within their 6 months of support, find the Pro support link at the top of this page: Lime Wire » Support

xxloublouxx May 16th, 2007 08:49 AM

and what if you have vista and its not working and you have tried EVERYTHING in these posts. I have the PRO version of Limewire and it will not connect at all

Lord of the Rings May 16th, 2007 09:29 AM

1. Check the Vista section. 2. And probably more valid is, remove all your versions of Java & install Java 1.5 instead; Java 1.5 (take the JRE) (about 4th on the list) and choose the "Offline" installation which is about 15 MB download.

Oh hold on you can't connect, perhaps I am jumping the gun a little for the 2nd suggestion. Check the Vista section & Sticky. If no help, then answer 6_pac 's question above about system details. We can't help you much without them. We can't see into your home or have ESP. lol :D

zapek May 16th, 2007 09:59 AM

My limewire keeps telling me that it can detect a firewall but i turned evrytin off: antivirus, firewall. and then no hosts come up on the connection screen

Lord of the Rings May 16th, 2007 10:33 AM

THe problem is probably then either your modem/router or ISP. Most high speed modems/routers have internal NAT firewalls. Can't help you without further details as requested many, many, many times in this thread & forum rules.

Just give us the information we requested. Tell us what operating system you have, what security software you have, what modem/router you use, what ISP you have, etc. etc.

Copy and paste the form with your answers in bold following the questions. Do your best. It will save all of us some time if you can answer most of them the first time around. ;)
